Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I know there are people who have had their heat shields replaced under warranty because I have PM'd them, and I mentioned this to the unhelpful service advisor, who then came back with the attitude and said 'well your car does have 85k miles on it, they wont cover it under warranty'.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry in advance, long post and lots of questions. It seems to me we have the whole spectrum of views regarding whether to have a warranty or not, and I myself sit on the fence with that. I was pleased mine came with it, but would I pay to extend it?? My issue is (and the point of this thread) how good are they anyway. We know they don't cover the wear and tear items so forget your brakes, clutch and the like, but what is wear and tear? My 996tt is in with the OPC at the moment for a number of things, and when I dropped it off I mentioned that 1, on each turbo there was a fixing nut missing, judging by the bolt it had corroded off, and 2, the heat shields were also badly corroded and also missing a fixing point because of this. The response was that corrosion is normal wear and tear and wouldn't be covered by the warranty. The car is rotting away?? Fair enough, I cant see that the turbo's are leaking or the heat shield will fall off because of the missing fixings, but surely it is supposed to be there for a reason. If you don't agree with a particular OPC, can you go to another for a second opinion? And do they charge you for looking at a potential warranty claim item?

POST 2Original post

I would be surprised to hear that they wouldn't cover these under the new style warranty if they actually had failed. I think there's a couple of people on here who have had heat shields replaced under warranty.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know there are people who have had their heat shields replaced under warranty because I have PM'd them, and I mentioned this to the unhelpful service advisor, who then came back with the attitude and said 'well your car does have 85k miles on it, they wont cover it under warranty'. It was only afterwards I remembered that the warranty is supposed to cover you until 125k miles. Otherwise I would have mentioned this at the time, though it was clear she didn't want to help anyway. I also mentioned a rattle coming from the passenger side dashboard, which again she said would not be covered. I insisted that the rattle was present when stationary, and stopped when turning the air circulation on/off and therefore must be mechanical.
