Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Even if it is all Porsche original equipment, I'll put money on it that the 111-point check highlights other work that needs doing that isn't covered by your existing warranty...

I wouldn't run a car without warranty, especially a Turbo.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My 996 Turbo S's warranty expires this month
Cost to renew is £1200 inc the 111 point check
I can't see a good reason not to renew as the costs associated with a turbo can be huge + it always helps on resale
Thoughts welcomed
My 996tt will be seven in November, extending the warranties have cost £5177 (until 02/11), the claims against the warranties have totalled £3722.
Not a great buy then, but if something horrible had gone wrong, or goes wrong before February, then.............
I assume it is totally OEM? Including audio equipment, standard engine map, no aftermarket exhaust / suspension etc..?
If not, you won't be able to renew. Even if it is all Porsche original equipment, I'll put money on it that the 111-point check highlights other work that needs doing that isn't covered by your existing warranty... Brake pad wear, shock absorbers leaking, clutch on its way out, radiator leak, underfloor damage, tyres worn, etc...
I have been without warranty for a total of 7 years and nearly 100,000 Porsche 911 miles now. Total cost of things that would have been covered is less than £2000 (and that includes a 996 C4 for 3 years). Total money saved on non-OPC servicing / maintenance is approximately, guess what?
You got it... about £2,000!
So I would have wasted around £7,000 in premiums (cheapest about £800, highest £1400) if I had maintained the warranty throughout - and that doesn't include the extra items that I would have to have done at my own expense as a result of the annual check.
Well different opinions...
I concur that is up to someone to decide - Wattie decided not to, for example.
My 996tt is now 9 years old and cannot renew anymore... I always renewed and it was always worth for me : changed turbos, heatshields, suspension, gearbox and couple of time the radiators, all within warranty...
Plus when I was doing my Euro trip, I was towed by Porsche Assistance ( all part of the warranty ) to Berlin and next day I had to be in Munich - so they loaned me a 997, drove to Munich and handed me my car two days after in Munich. Great service I have to say.
So if my car was eligible, I would still do it , thats for sure.
Each man to its own.
At the end of the day it is an
insurance
product with a huge mark-up for dealer and Porsche GB, so, on average most people would be better off without it (else they wouldn't make any money and it wouldn't exist!)
Just depends on how lucky you feel and how critical cash-flow is - as opposed to outright cost.
I used to sell finance and insurance products in car dealerships and without the profit from these alone, many new car dealers would be long gone - across all franchises.
I have had the warranty for 3 years (2 at the new price), so £3000 and had about £0 recovered.
If I knew 3 years ago that the engine and gearbox weren't going to blow up, then I wouldn't have bothered, but now I'm convinced that when I don't have warranty any more about 1 month later something will give!
I wouldn't run a car without warranty, especially a Turbo. The cheapest part of owning the 911 is the warranty (for me anyway), so if you can afford it, why not.
I've been toying with the idea of putting one on my MY 2003 C2 to sell it. I'd probably forward half the cost of the warranty on to the sale price of the car to try and recoup some of the outlay (£1,200?).
But my fear is that the OPC won't like the fact that the car hasn't seen the inside of their building for years and that I've been elsewhere for servicing. I can't help thinking that they'd 'find' plenty of things that they'd insist on getting done before they cover the car.
On the plus side I think that it would give the new owner piece of mind and aid the sale of the car.
I guess that there's only one way to find out....
I thought about this once and wasted my money on the 111-point check to be honest...
RMS needed (had one two months earlier under warranty)
New tyres all round (were nearly new, but not N-rated)
New discs and pads all round (measured and approved as fine by Koln OPC 9 months and 15,000 miles later)
New radiators needed (didn't bother and only one needed changing before I sold it 3 years and 50,000 miles later)
and a couple of other minor jobs
Total cost of getting the warranty renewed: a smidgin over £4,000!
Mmmmm... the words 'paying for bad news' spring to mind!
I think that I'll almost certainly try selling it
without
a warranty first and see how things go.
If I were the buyer I don't think that I'd be that reassured about a car with a warranty compared to one without but we're all different. I know that my car has had the very best of care all its life but I think that some might not see my reasoning for Indi vs. OPC for the servicing!
warranty
mine run out last year had the chance to re new on last service, but wanted to put another exhaust on ,sports so didnt bother, i still think its not bad value if things go wrong.
996
In context , it had a full service in late Feb and has done about 600 miles since then
In that service I had £1500 of costs covered by the current warranty
So, fingers crossed , it should be OK . Famous last words!
