Hello fellow Porsche owners, My 987 Boxster S started leaking a pink fluid i suspect its either Transmission oil or coolant.. there are no Check Engine Lights and the car runs and drives perfectly normal but the leak is a little fast i suspect from last night till this morning i would have lost approx between 1/2 to 1 qt. Could you guys please advise as to what this leak maybe coming from. Below are some pictures. It appears to be coming from behind this black/pulley wheel.. as each time i wipe it accumulates there... Any help you guys can give will be greatly appreciated!

Almost certainly the water pump has given up the ghost. This is a reasonably easy DIY if you are so inclined. Given the rate that it is leaking, I wouldn't drive it far until it is fixed.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.. yes i can confirm its definitely coolant and not transmission oil as i had to add 1qt to the reservoir... Ill start looking for some DIY on waterpump changes...

Just to confirm your thoughts... the leak is coming from above the water pump and collecting at the pulley.. is it still a water[ump?

If it is the water pump, there could be a real issue in driving the car. I'm not sure but I think leaks mean the bearing is worn. Worn bearing could let the impeller hit the housing. Buts of plastic break off and clog small passages in the engine. The cylinder head can overheat locally, not near the temp sensor. Hilarity ensues. I could be all wet about this. If you are DIY inclined Pelican Parts has a kit for $300 that includes a new pump, gasket, new thermostat (while you're in there) and thermostat gasket. You want to use one with a composite impeller, not metal, which is considered by some to be an upgrade but which can actually eat into your block if the bearings fail in the future.
