Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have this message after replacing the water pump and thermostat. I did not have the coolant system completely full initially and did have some overheating. I subsequently did purge air and now have the coolant at the correct level. And I changed the oil level indicator thinking I may have damaged it. But I am still getting this message intermittently with the new indicator installed. And the car is not showing readings of the oil level - just the failure message (intermittently). Any ideas or suggestions on what is causing this and how to remedy?

POST 2Original post

If the sensor is fine, then it's likely a wiring issue. There's no easy way to investigate that - you just have to check the wires to ensure they're intact, etc. If you get fancy, you could put in a 12V LED or something on the power leads to see if that's what's dropping out. If you're lucky, that's the easier fix... if that's not it, it could be the signal wires going back to whatever module is reading it... Again, that assumes the sensor is fine. This isn't a common failure mode, from what I'm seeing... so I'm guessing it's a wiring issue. You could also check to make sure the connector is clean and not corroded... that would be easier than the other checks.

POST 3Original post

As we have no dip stick, there is no way of actually knowing the oil level on a flat surface. I look at my level each and every day before I start up the engine. What can be done to at least get that gauge in the dash fixed? Maybe this is a Porsche maintenance problem. I had a water temp sensor go bad last week, researched the evidence and flat bedded my car to the INDY for a sensor repair. The INDY was skeptical as they only saw the code, which did not point directly to the water temp sensor. I googled this issue and all the answers from different years, but the same model car, came back the same as a sensor problem. So I had the INDY only change the sensor, put the car back together, start it up and take it for a 5 minute drive to see if the RED light in the water temp gauge came on. It did not. My problem is that fuel metering system would be stuck in startup mode if I drove it 25 miles to the INDY. Not good for the cylinder walls. Potentially OP, your problem could be worse, you could get coolant in the oil or a leak in the oil line some where and have no way of knowing it until you get a low oil pressure warning.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
