Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I put down my deposit for a GT3 last night. But, come to find out, there are 14 others in front of me at Porsche North Scottsdale. What are the odds that I will actually get the allocation? Apparently, this dealer is No. 2 in U.S. sales so they will likely get a relatively large allocation. But, I wonder if it would be beneficial to put down a deposit with another dealer as well? Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

Champion Porsche in So. Florida is #1 they are hoping to get 6 to 8 GT3s. If your dealer is #2 they may get maybe 5 or 6 the rest will have to come from other dealers in other parts of the country where there is no market for the car. Those will almost for sure have a premium if you are # 14 on the list I would start looking somewhere else for the car.

POST 3Original post

Donn, if you really want the car I would not worry. A lot of the time the 1st owners buy the car as an investment and turn around and sell it within the first month in publications like the DuPont Registry. Although you might pay a premium (probably somewhere around $115K), if you must have the car this is one way to obtain it.

POST 4Original post

They should be able to tell you how many they will get. If they told you they are #2 I'd be concerned. #1 and #2 (WPB) are in Fla, #3 is in Atlanta... Roy

POST 5Original post

Being #14 isn't that bad. I'll go ahead and predict that at least half of those orders will drop out when they can't flip it for a profit. However since deposits are completely refundable, why not just call around and place a few at other dealers?

POST 6Original post

There are a lot of dealers around with much shorter lists than this. I've also heard that even Champion hasn't actually gotten its second allocation yet, although they are expecting it soon. So it will be a long while before anyone works down to the #14 spot. A friend of mine got the next spot at a DC area dealer about a month ago. I've heard of other dealers in the midwest with open allocations. If you check around you can do a lot better than #14. There are also people selling their allocation spots if you want to pay extra. Karl

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for the responses/suggestions. I found a dealer less than 500 miles away and got the number 1 spot on his list. Will all dealers necessarily get at least one car? (This guy seemed pretty convinced he'd get at least 1...) Or should I put down deposits at a few more locations? I'm not in a huge hurry. Just would like to get one sometime within the next 6 months... (without paying a huge premium). Thanks again for your assistance.

POST 8Original post

You could be #2 at my local dealer, they only have one person on the list so far.

POST 9Original post

Don't worry. Just be patient, and you will be able to get the car. Remember the GT2? All slots were sold at first, with huge wait lists. My dad just bought one last december at MSRP, and got to build it (didnt have to pick one that was already on the showroom floor). My guess is that at first you will see a high demand, with many guys just building cars with the intention of selling quick, but relatively soon there will be many guys that walk away from their slots. This is a crummy market; a guy who buys a slot hoping he can afford one by the time it's his turn to build may not go through with it unless the economy changes. $100,000 is a lot of dough to part with if you are at all worried about market conditions.

POST 10Original post

Champion told me that getting on the list there is absolutely impossible, and they have the biggest allocation in the USA

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

All - I stumbled onto a dealer with a five car allocation, got car no. 4, scheduled to be delivered in Sept./Oct. Thanks for the suggestions/ideas. Cheers,

POST 12Original post

You may still want to keep a deposit down on the #1 spot at the other dealer. According to my dealer, PCNA has not told them exactly how many cars they are going to get and they have not even given out the July allocations, much less Sept. If a dealer is telling you that they are getting five cars for sure and they know they have a Sept allocation, I'd be a little cautious. Karl

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The first dealer I spoke to said the same thing. I've kept both deposits just in case!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Following up on Karl's post, the dealer who said I can buy their Sept car admitted as much that they do not know for certain how many cars they will get beyond July. But, according to the sales manager, he is confident that they will get at least one during that time frame based on their past volume of sales (and allocations). Needless to say I'm a little less confident in that assertion... but it can't hurt to have a deposit with this dealer.

POST 15Original post

Looking at a lot of the posts saying what dealer is #1, #2, etc... got me to thinking: who is telling the truth? I think there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Champion is far and away #1 in sales volume. I have always heard that Beverly Hills is #2 in the world (and I've seen the plaque on their wall). Then a bunch of other people started chiming in that Scottsdale or WPB are #2. What's the deal? Are these dealers all jerking our chains or do they mean they are #2 in oil changes or what? In any case, if you are not one of the 1st on the allocation list, you will still likely be able to get one, but you WILL pay a premium. Expect anywhere from $15K - $25K. In some markets it may be more. What happens very often with rare mercedes (SL55, etc...) is people on a wait list buy them for sticker when they come in, drive them cross town, and the competing dealer will buy that car for 110% of what the private party just paid. Then the new dealer will sell the car for another $10-$20K over that!!
