By all means improve the car, but if you're intending to make it look like the later car it isn't, you run the risk of scaring off potential buyers when you decide to move on.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

sooo, just wondering, if i buy a 1998 carrera and want to face lift the headlights to the post 2002 lights, do i need wings? they look a similar shape... what is needed?
also, will the later 997 lights fit the rear with a later bumper?
thanks everyone
Don't do it.
A Porsche needs to be as the Good Doctor intended it to be,
Small upgrades such as lights and wheels and exhausts are accepted and are desirable changes but facelifting will devalue your car and put a large percetage of buyers off at sale time. Let alone your
insurance
nightmares.
Save some more and buy a facelift car if that's what you want.
Just my opinion.
If you have to then there is a company that do it

I dont think updating a 1998 996 will devalue it if it is done professionally, may even enhance the value. They are not going to become sought after classics any time soon. Changing cars looks is always a personal choice and popular otherwise Techart, cargraphics et al would be out of business. I dont see these being devalued.
Dont skimp on it, or pimp it and you will have a nicer car.
Do It :thumb:
I'd be inclined to agree with Adey...
we're always slating peeps on here for making cars appear something they are not... I'd keep it original, but that's just me..
I'm with the "Keep it original" school. By all means improve the car, but if you're intending to make it look like the later car it isn't, you run the risk of scaring off potential buyers when you decide to move on. After all, if the lights aren't genuine, what about the rest of the car?
Take a look at this forum. There's always lively comment when a buyer posts a pic of his or her potential purchase from PistonHeads or whatever if the visual clues don't stack up.
Worth bearing in mind when you make your decision.

Do not agree with the fact it devalues the car, i had a 1998 C2, did the facelift job, added a Aero Kit, and some other minor mods, had the car for 18 months, sold the car for 3k more than i paid for it in the first place.
Some people like to keep them as originals, it's personal choice really
I allways assume a facelifted car has been damaged at the front , as it would be a huge expense, but worth doing if the car needed all the parts anyway.
It's your car so do you you want, but personally I can't see the point.
Why not just buy a facelift? I would tend to keep the money in reserve
for all the stuff a 1998 C2 is going to need done to it to keep it tiptop.

Its a personal thing; just like changing your wheels; silver, black, grey or white???
But since you asked, my view would be to keep it as the original - it may not devalue it and you may be lucky (when you sell) to find a buyer who is happy with what you've done - but you'll certainly reduce the market of interest.
Either way pal, its your money and your choice - if you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Incidentally, I said that to my big brother about his first wife - my opinion was not sought on the second one!!!!
