Nothing daft, it needs to go about 20 miles each way for a repair after someone hit it in a car park!!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi All New to this site, and predictably first post is a problem! I have a 2010 cayman with 87k on the clock. Has been well looked after but decided to throw the check engine light (solid not flashing) on yesterday, nothing else changed, no drop in performance etc! Plugged in OBD and found fault code 2099 and 2198……likely to be O2 sensor or Cat? Do have it booked in to Porsche in a couple of weeks and fingers crossed it might be something covered by extended warranty (although I know cat wouldn’t be!). Question is am I ok to drive it a couple of times before then? Nothing daft, it needs to go about 20 miles each way for a repair after someone hit it in a car park!! Any advice greatly appreciated. cheers simon

POST 2Original post

Sounds to me that it may just be a bad O2 sensor. Certainly you can bring it to a shop, and based on that OBD code number alone it should not be a problem to drive a little bit.

POST 3Original post

Thanks for the speedy response, fingers crossed for just an O2 sensor!

POST 4Original post

To answer your question, if it's running at the correct temperature, not consuming oil or coolant and the oil level is correct I think you can safely drive it.

POST 6Original post

As long as the check engine light is not flashing off and on then it is not immediately pressing and you can drive the car. I would however recommend taking it to a reputable independent repair shop versus the dealer. Porsche dealerships are notoriously overpriced and there is nothing esoteric about your Boxster . Any Porsche specific shop with a Durametric scanner can take care of the diagnosis and replacement/repair.

POST 7Original post

A reputable independent Porsche service team is the only way to go. Here in Ormond Beach Florida, I deal only with BGB Motorsports and my 2010 Cayman S is as healthy as can be, and then some, at 208,000. miles !!!…..all thanks to them.
