Corroded brake discs justified a new set of discs and pads --- cost £750, my choice and their power is phenomenal (though no track use !).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

28 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

993 C4S, just hit 78k miles last weekend (zig zagging the Brecon Beacons!), and apart from the usual consumption of tyres and brakes it's perfect! I've done 16k miles in the last 6 months and it's not missed a beat. Definitely something to be said for regualr use. I seriously questioning 993TT vs 993RS now... VS

POST 2Original post

Excellent! A supercar decision that has the bilateral distinction of being satisfactory to both head & heart.

POST 3Original post

DeR, Posted new topic to answer that question - i think perhaps a can of worms may be on today's luncheon menu... VS

POST 5Original post

3920 in 10 months...The car is loosening up and I am much more confident with it's limits...Never happy though, never enough power, grip etc....

POST 6Original post

2001 Boxster S Just over 16,000. No problems whatsoever. Only non service item was a new set of wiper blades. Its only me that squeals now. When I'm in the passenger seat

POST 7Original post

136,000 miles and counting. One or two things have started to go wrong. Still no rattles, creaks or groans on the inside, no ripped seats either. Still startes every time after half a turn. Still do over 140 mph when asked....

POST 8Original post

7,400 miles in ten months (996tt). The Big things: Engine - Fantastic. Brakes - Fantastic. The Little things: Rattle and airnoise in cabin. Car went into OPC last Friday to have this looked at amongst other niggles. I currently have an intermittent wind noise above my passenger side rear window, at various speeds, but particularly prevalent when "hooning". I also have broken clips on the interior trim panel below the rear window which now rattles like crazy. New clips have been ordered and will be going on the car in the next few days. The wind noise has previously been looked at and the window repositioned, last friday they said they've repositioned the rear light cluster which was "out of line", see if that fixes it! It doesn't. I get the distinct impression there is far too much flexibility in the 996 chassis for driving it properly. Once the new clips are fitted and they've agreed to give me a lifetimes supply of said clips I feel I may be going to war on the intermittent wind noise issue. DAZ

POST 9Original post

22,000 miles covered in two trouble free years of ownership. Now drives like never before since it recently got adjustable Koni yellows; "lots" of money are being spent on preventive maintenance however it remains rather cheap to run

POST 10Original post

Mine's around 76k miles, last service was a major one and cost 2.5 grand - mainly because it needed new brakes and a clutch. Classing those as consumables, there have been no other failures. Only one niggling fault - the ventilation system sometimes plays up when on full blowers (i.e. one of the internal flaps is loose). Other than that, completely caned it at Snetterton a few weeks ago (its first track day with me), and if anything, the engine felt much better for the experience!!!! Oh yeah, it's a 1996 993 carrera (2wd)

POST 11Original post

36k up, no faults ever except the battery draining which wasn't really a fault and the conditioner now keeps it tipperty top. Structure's utterly rigid and I don't know whether it rattles or it's the heavy metal CDs in the glove box clattering around. Frankly, I don't give a sh1t; it's the best car I've ever owned, all things considered and if I have anything to do with it, we're going to have a Gollumnic-Ring fixation-type relationship for ever! I'm afraid the build quality is quite stratospheric; up there with J.R.Ewing's S-class. Looks crap inside though. Ha!

POST 12Original post

My '81 SC has 145,000 miles up now - still going strong Danny

POST 13Original post

10,000 miles on my march 02 996 tt, 6000 of which are mine. Had a weird problem las week. My car did a Focus. The engine cut out and the electrical system went mad for 3 seconds then all restarted itself.... Checked my watch for missing time..

POST 14Original post

all in km took over my demo Targa End March 2002 at 9000 By mid-november I was up to 30000, so thats 21000 km, around 13000 miles. Over Winter its been more or less laid up, around 1000 miles up til now. In Mid-March I'll be off again .. Absolutely no problems that I didn't cause myself, i.e. new front (met a hare at 130 mph), new rear bumper (hit a knee-high post reversing in pitch black), and a new set of rear tyres at 12000 miles. It looks like this could end up being a long-term relationship. It still exites me every time I drive it. I'm hooning around in the Mondeo at present, and showing withdrawal symptoms.

POST 15Original post

My '91 944S2 is up to 89,500 - 3000 of which I have driven. Have just replaced cam/balance belts and chain. Other than a few niggles that you'd expect on a 12 year old car its been great fun

POST 16Original post

It was your fault for not driving the damn thing enough! But, you have seen the error of your ways. I bet the local OPC have a glut of batteries they'd got in especially for you!

POST 17Original post

It's Greg The Chastisor! Fear not; no longer does the flat snouted one slumber in hemetic solitude...

POST 18Original post

7500 in about 7 months. No probs, had a rattly targa top but been fixed. Love the car.

POST 19Original post

Argonaut, When you say luckily covered under warranty, are solenoid probs expensive to fix?? (only ask as i think i may have one, either that or air flow meter) Thanks Dean

POST 20Original post

1990 944 Turbo, Just clocked up........................ 50000 miles. Just about run in I guess!

POST 21Original post

'85 Carrera 3.2 Sport done 110k miles (but only 1k by me since November, with absolutely no problems) It's in for a 12k service with Chelsea Carrera at the moment. Don't think there will be anything major, but wish me luck.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dean - yep, quite expensive. Just the part costs £498 plus VAT. Not sure how much labour is involved, but I'd imagine specialist Porsche outfits could do it for a lot less than the OPC's. Good luck! Could well be the mass airflow sensor, though - that was my first guess before I took it in. What model/mileage do you have?

POST 23Original post

nah that fella with the white 944 turbo that was in 911 & porker world a couple of years ago has his car just about run in- with 360,000miles on the original engine/turbo/gearbox i seem to remember!

POST 24Original post

Typical, that wont be covered under used warranty no doubt! '99 996 C4 , 45k miles

POST 25Original post

Up to around 105K so far, 2.7RS engine from 1974

POST 26Original post

Boxter S coming up 30,000 miles in three years, 8,000 by myself. Driven in all weather, hence very fresh tyres --- a full new set in my ownership. Corroded brake discs justified a new set of discs and pads --- cost £750, my choice and their power is phenomenal (though no track use !). The only unplanned expenditure was to repair a collapsed hand brake mechanism due to broken brake shoe springs. This was two months outside warranty and Porsche paid --- very kindly. No rattles or other unpleasant noises and after a good Zymol it looks almost new. Just bought a secondhand C4 (13,000 miles) and am sorting out a couple of teething problems. A rattly front windscreen and an Air Mass Sensor --- cost £250 ? But the new set of tyres fitted by the previous owner just about makes up for it ....

POST 27Original post

86 951 130,000 miles, replaced radiator thermo switch last fall, $46, oh and the glass on my drivers side mirror fell out last week, $20. friend with 98 Esprit drives my car and say's "how come you don't have any rattles"

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

...and any major problems encountered with regards to mechanical/electrical problems? Me - '99 996 - just had my 60k service! Solenoid (tensioner) on one of the cylinder banks needs replacing. Luckily, covered by the warranty. Very small coolant leak at engine end and both front 'boots' very slightly leaking.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
