The Golf R32 that I swapped for the 911 had a decent tune.

I am really pleased with The kit and think I will run it without changing the exhaust as it seems to tick all of right boxes.

Suggestion
I too have the standard exhaust on the car and have been toying with the idea of changing the rear boxes or going for the switchable Porsche item that you have mentioned.
Replace standard airbox, should be slightly more free flowing

its an open filter and set of pipes which replace the standard airbox, should be slightly more free flowing and because the filter is open to the air and not contained in a silencing box, you will hear induction roar as air is sucked in

I hardly ever use the off button so would not pay a premium for that but the difference to the sound of the car with PSE is worth every penny - but that is a lot of pennies.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Aquired my 04 C4s 3 months ago and use it as everday transport. Pretty good so far but the only thing that lets the car down slightly is the exhaust note, or lack of it. The Golf R32 that I swapped for the 911 had a decent tune. I'm thinking of going down the OPC sports exhaust route because although it seems a little warm on the price it comes with the "off" button which will be handy for when i arrive at a clients home during the course of my business. I'm also not really a fan of non standard kit on my cars. Any advice anyone on whether i should go straight to OPC or whether i should order the part and have fitted elsewhere?
Exhaust not loud enough
Howard,
I also have a 996 c4s and use it as my daily drive. I too have the standard exhaust on the car and have been toying with the idea of changing the rear boxes or going for the switchable Porsche item that you have mentioned. A friend suggested that I try the k&n induction kit as it gives a great sound over the 4000 rpm mark while giving extra power. At lower rpm you can hardly notice the difference. I am really pleased with The kit and think I will run it without changing the exhaust as it seems to tick all of right boxes. The kit costs about £300 and will take a novice about 2 hours to fit. Hope this helps. If you do go down the exhaust route I would love to hear the difference at some point.
Regards
Callum
Go for the K&N Induction kit!!
I had mine fitted about 8 weeks ago and love it. As alredy mentioned in this thread - you get noise and performance (not bags of it, but enough).
My friend has a 997 Turbo and his car sounds nothing like mine - he is now having something similar fitted to his.
Do it!!
try Porscheshop, they sell for £265
its an open filter and set of pipes which replace the standard airbox, should be slightly more free flowing and because the filter is open to the air and not contained in a silencing box, you will hear induction roar as air is sucked in
and so you get (maybe) a slight power increase, and a bigger more hollow sound as the revs rise!
hope that answers that without too much controvesy
cheers

The K&N induction kit does sound like an acceptable consolation prize instead of the pse. I refuse to spend over £3k on an piece of kit which was a fraction of the price not so long ago. Do the clever accountants at Porsche GB not understand that their revenue would increase noticably if they were to return the pse upgrade to its 'normal' price?? Is anyone interested in a group buy? Also I have seen the K&N typhoon induction kit. Does this have an advantage over the standard K&N induction kit advertised?
I bought Oettle boxes from Germany for about £300.I have been told they sound better than PSE but as I have not heard PSE I cannot varify that.
From about 3000 rpm they sound fantastic.
I have factory switchable PSE and it is one of the best things on the car.
I hardly ever use the off button so would not pay a premium for that but the difference to the sound of the car with PSE is worth every penny - but that is a lot of pennies.
Try the K&N while you save up for PSE or similar.
PSE mod is becoming increasingly difficult as cars get older and a decent supply of second hand BBs dries up. I took my car to Sport and Classic in Knutsford to have the job done on mine by Mike there. We decided between us that my BBs were too knackered to bother with :-(
Sadly not, though the addition of the X51 kit is meant to make the exhaust note slightly fruitier than standard, particularly at the top end.
I'm hoping that the addition of the mod will be even more effective than usual due to the Powerkit. :dont know:
I think GT4's experience with an X51 car (albeit a 3.4) has been pretty positive.
Hey mate,
I think I can offer some very relevant feedback, as my first entry into 911 ownership was last August into a 2003 C4S, moving and trading in from a Mk5 R32 (I had a Mk4 R32 before which was even 'boomier'). I know exactly what you are saying about the exhaust note and I also looked into the PSE option, but figured £3k+ for the upgrade and fitting was a bit too rich.
I would listen to GT4 regarding the H&S upgrade. I have not (yet) had it fitted, but all the feedback I have read is very positive and you can see the pics if you do a search which clearly show all the PSE system does is this, but with an electronically controlled valve system.
GT4's advice seems very highly rated here, and I have heard independently that H&S are a very professional outfit. They have increased the upgrade from £250 to £299, but given they can do it in 2 hours and they are a very reputable house - I personally think it is a no-brainer.
Cheers,
S.
