Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys, Still doing my research. Im wondering if there are any power mods to be had from the 98-2001 996 911 C2. Filters, exhaust, decat remap etc? What power gains are seen, cost effective? how do the engines cope putting out a little more power? I love the sound of the switchable exhaust, any power gain from the muffle bypass? I understand about 290bhp stock? Any results to compare? Thanks Chris

POST 2Original post

Most probably very hard to find but if you can source a car that had the original X51 option fitted to the car then you have more bhp than standard. X51 was an £8k (approx) factory-fit option which boosted power to 320PS (I believe) on the 3.4L cars over the standard car's 300PS. The kit added a third radiator, significant overhauls of the internals and a freer breathing exhaust. I don't know all the intricacies but I'm sure a Google search will throw something up. This may be a good starting point for you? ~ Maxie

POST 4Original post

Power upgrades Maxie, Having purchased my 1999 carrera 4 second hand, how will I know if the x51 engine mods are present or not ?

POST 5Original post

Pale Rider you will need an "X51" code on your bonnet/service book options label. Of course someone may have retrofitted it, in which case the £8,725 rises considerably (beyond £14k). On non-Tips you need to look for a front centre radiator under number plate (C4S excepted). Look above and behind throttle body (under rear window area) - the intake plenum and manifolds are cast aluminum alloy (rather than black plastic - see below). Here is the spec: Note: some non-performance benefits are better cooling and better lubrication (specifically to the failure candidate 456 bank cylinders).

POST 9Original post

Power mods GT4, Is possible to add the extra third radiator to my standard 3.4 ? I presume it would fix to what look like mounting positions between the two wing rads, central to front bumper ? Cheers...P

POST 10Original post

Re: Power mods Yes. RennTech website has some "How to's"

POST 11Original post

I second that, the technical knowledge and the help supplied by members of this forum is second to none, there's a few members in particular who are fantastic, including GT4. Forums like this and the people on them are invaluable to taming the paranoia of owning a 996. Gary
