I've run web forums since before there were web forums (BBS chats and forums) and I can tell you from years of experience that the first sign a site is going downhill is when it starts randomly deleting users with no warning and no explanation simply because the admin can.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

A couple of days ago someone at Rennteam started a topic in their Cayman section asking why messages there had died off lately. I posted a response suggesting that while some people liked to visit sites that were generalist sites like Rennteam or ********, others preferred to visit sites that were specific to a model like PPBB for the Boxster or this site for the Cayman. I just dropped in there to check to see if there were any other responses. There had been about a half dozen most agreeing that there were different strokes for different folks and that the Cayman-bashing that had occurred on Rennteam in the last couple of months by 911 owners only served to drive people away. Well what do I notice but I'm not logged in. Hmmm ok, try again, bam no luck. So I go to the Cayman section and see that not only has my account been deleted but EVERY message I ever posted there is also gone! It looks like some other posts were gone as well, namely from those supporting the Cayman. So I have to ask, why does Rennteam even havea Cayman section then? and anyone have a clue why the admin suddenly became an a-hole and went off the deep end??? I don't want to get into a 'this site vs. that site' debate, as I've said publicly many times I think a variety of sites is a 'good' thing and that people should be free to visit whatever sitethey want. I can say, however, from my perspective I will NOT be going back to Rennteam with a management and and attitude such as has been displayed. I've run web forums since before there were web forums (BBS chats and forums) and I can tell you from years of experience that the first sign a site is going downhill is when it starts randomly deleting users with no warning and no explanation simply because the admin can. I call it the 'take my ball and go home' syndrome. I just want to take this opportunity to point out that I don't care if members here visit other sites, and I don't care if you say negative things about the Cayman as long as you have some facts or basis to your statements or theories and don't violate the user agreement here. In the event that someone violated the user agreement here (and no one has to my knowledge) you'd receive a warning before any action was taken. I believe if you treat people like adults they tend to respond and act like adults! Ok back to your regularly scheduled programming!

POST 2Original post

Amen. Yeah Brother, There are some truly small people out there driving perfectly good 911s. That's one of the reasons I bought a Cayman, actually, to be a bit less noticed for the wrong reasons. You see that kind of disharmonious crap with motorcycles. Harley guys generally hate the Sport bikers (because the Sport Bikes work so much better, generally, and the Harley guys know it). I know it, because I've owned a couple Harleys, a couple Suzukis, and three Ducatis. It's really pathetic when you've got Porsche People who are down on a new Porsche (and apparently the people who drive them) because they fear it, or they fear the loss of their dollar-induced feeling of supremecy. Screw 'em.

POST 3Original post

I agree K-man S, they should not of done that, and they should be a little careful who they piss off. I can't see any reason to visit their site now. Totally ridicules.

POST 4Original post

I regularly visited 3 sites when I started shopping for a 996 a few years ago and Rennteam wasn't one of them. They were all very helpful at the time but only one has a positive Cayman crowd. I now support CaymanClub and ********. I visited Rennteam once and had little use for their attitude. While their conduct toward Ken was extreme, I can't say I am surprised[/quote]

POST 5Original post

Another thing i have noticed with this site is how people aren't constantly arguing w/ each other overanything n evrything they happen to pick up, no matter how trivial. I know of sites that have incredibly immature people or people so full of themselves they think they are right in evrything they say. In the end those sites just end up becoming huge debating forums on a given topic using any bit of factual evidence they can get their handson.

POST 6Original post

K-Man S I'm surprised you're surprised by Rennteam's actions. I dropped PBBB after a couple of years of Boxster ownership because it had becomesouninformativeand infantile. When I got interested in the Cayman back in 6/05 I started surfing the boards again to get some information. The immaturity, hostility, and often ignoranceon these sites (PBBB, Rennteam,********) dilutes what is useful to such an extent that it becomes a waste of time. There is only one Porsche board I find interesting, useful, and civilized, and that's the Cayman Club. Personally I think that Rennteam did you a favor. I haven't even surfed there for a few months and if they deleted any evidence of my prior participation that would be fine.

POST 7Original post

First Porsche, I've found everything I need here so there you have it./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/beer2.gif

POST 8Original post

LOL. Not surprised and no big deal.......there was really nothing there from the start for the Cayman owner.......just a lot of 911 and Boxster owners with corn cobs up their butts for some reason. We can all do without that. Thanks for the great site K-man S, I'm sure all of us here will work together to make it THE place to hang out for the Cayman owner.

POST 9Original post

DaveC, I'm not overly surprised by their actions only that this admin suddenly stepped in and did that and went to such extreme measures. It had seemed lately that RC was 'coming around' in his Cayman thinking but then just before I and others got deleted there was a statement that the 911-Cayman war there was started by Cayman owners claiming their car was better than the 911. I never saw that other than a posting of Walter Rohl's ring time. So yeah maybe I shouldn't be surprised that they just whitewashed everything. Anyway, glad everyone is here and you guys are right, just one less site for me to check during my hectic day! I can't keep up with all of Russ's messages anyway!!! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/dance.gif

POST 10Original post

K-Man S your posting about PCNA's comments regarding the significance of the Cayman represents what I think has become the pebble in the shoe for a lot of people on the other boards. The Cayman is a new direction for Porsche production sports cars that has the potential for enormous development and success which is not necessarily welcome by other 'camps' within the Porsche family. This newdirection is soobvious it also explains why Porsche didn't introduce the Caymanwith the Boxsterwhen it could have seriously eroded 996 sales.

POST 11Original post

No question about it - for a Cayman owner, a future owner or an interested person this is THE site. With all the news items posted by mpollard, and questions by RussK most issues get covered well. Good blend of information and banter to keep people interested - I think it is a very good service to those looking to buy a Cayman, and as more and more people receive their cars will evolve and offer even more hands on practical information.

POST 12Original post

K-manS, quality over quantity. Keep it up, well done pal...One big happy family that's how I feel here...No BS no flames...just perfect....COCO

POST 13Original post

How unfair! Anyone that would ban Ken from posting on a bulletin board must be BANANAS! Kman, good thing you started this site. Now that Rennteam has taken this action, are there any Porsche related boards other than this one that still allow you to post??/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif

POST 14Original post

Oh I still post on other Porsche related sites like ********, PPBB, etc. from time to time, but there isn't much I am interested in at those sites, most of what I am interested in is right here! I should get an award or something... /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/beer2.gif
