Therefore, it's advisable to check with an official Porsche dealership or the company's website for the most up-to-date information on the availability and specifications of the GT4 RS with the Weissach package.

I was expecting at least $350k - too fast to charge less given the hierarchy of models that Porsche uses.
Chuck a few options on the current GT4 and you're in the $280k range anyway.
Looks like they didn't hold back which is good to see. Probably close to 500hp when you see the terminal velocity on the straights, much faster than the normal GT4.
Hits 9000rpm a few times too which might suggest it’s got a rather special engine. Maybe even a slightly detuned GT3 engine?
i know they said they could fit in because of the inlet manifold but given they have air intakes through the side rear window perhaps they found a way. I reckon $350k ish....
Also a bit of controversy over the lap time. I am hearing it could have gone sub 7 but he back off in a few spots...
I priced one up for shits and giggles. Came out at $301k I presume plus on roads, but not that familiar with Porsche pricing.
Would be an amazing piece of kit. only 7hp less than the GT3 with the same motor.
Just had confirmation of 4 days at Spa Francorchamps in April with Porsche!
First 2 days in a new GT4 RS and then next two days in a GT4 Clubsport.
Very excited. Can't wait to drive the 4 RS at my favourite track and see if I can match my 3 RS lap time.
And just to make you all even more jealous, I have also just had confirmation of a further 2 days on the Nordschleife with Porsche in a GT4 RS. Also in April. It's going to be a big month!
I’m tipping you’ll go faster……I found a 981 GT4 easier to click with a drive hard than 991.2 GT3. Or maybe that’s just me…..your butt dyno and lap times will be interesting real world comparison.
isn’t the rumour that the Porsche test driver backed off in places on Nurburgring lap?
🍿
🍿
.
Hoping one of the Spa/Ring rental companies have a 4RS in their fleet by the time my 2020 Euro trip gets rebooted.
The video of the GT4RS test looked like it was a bit twitchy and definitely was not perfect, but it still looked like it was a mule with the front guard vents closed off, etc, so it would be good to see what the production car is actually like.
Another point about the Nurburgring lap was I believe they used regular GT4 size Cup 2 Rs 245 - 295, rather than "RS size" tires, whereas GT3 had larger Cup 2 Rs - 255 - 315. I think 265 front and 305 rear is not on reasonable on a GT4 RS. Otherwise the GT3 was more settled in the corners. IMO the GT3 run also had a better driver.
Yes, Clubsports are great fun. I have previously done 2 days in a Clubsport at Spa and 2 days at Hockenheim. My fingers are crossed that by the time I get back to Spa in April, the GT4 Clubsports have been replaced by the new 4RS Clubsport because it would be a bit of a disappoint to spend 2 days in a 500hp 4RS and then immediately thereafter have to step back into a Clubsport with only 420hp. From my last stint, about the only thing I walked away thinking that the car needed was way more power. The 4RS Clubsport solves that big time.
I am waiting to see a real world driving test on a public road , I am curious if the GT4RS will be as compliant on road as the GT4 is or have Porsche made damper and spring rate adjustments for a more track focused setup .
The standard GT4 has a fantastic dampener and spring set up it just works perfectly on a public road and on track will the RS retain that ....???
I agree Racing Yellow is a good colour for this car and almost a must with the yellow carbon ceramics.
Out of interest a friend and I checked local availablity and PCW have 9 or 10 allocations for the year but 25 deposits. Even more demand at PCSS. I'm guessing that's a 100 or so cars spread amongst the Aus dealerships this year which are all taken for, and probably well into 2023. So I'm guessing 2024 delivery for people just getting on the list, although I assume some of the earlier expressions of interest will drop off.
I'm thinking demand in Melbourne would also be very high but maybe places like SA and WA would have less demand so better chance? Although not that you can buy interstate.
I was reflecting the other day on my initial enthusiasm for this vehicle.
The reflection was a result of driving my Cayman S on public country roads that Vicroads are aggressively reducing speed limits on, rolling road blocks of "Sunday drivers" and aggressive rule enforcement. I come to the conclusion that I utilised a
very
moderate amount of the performance and abilities of my current vehicle and reflected on why would I want a race car that has compromises to be registered that our roads will
NEVER
allow the use of such performance!
Yep, Pretty boring reflection.... maybe Ive been beaten down!
Oh well no need to get my feathers ruffled about allocations etc and I can leave the coin in the bank!
Maybe I can take my greying mop of hair, purchase a land cruiser with a great big van and drive on said roads 20 below the limit ensuring that I have at least 15 cars held up behind me and lean on the throttle when any over taking opportunities present.
On the other hand GT and RS cars appear to have been a prudent fiscal investment of late!
I agree Grimmy, in Vic especially, having a fast car on public roads is not much fun. I've gone the way of a vintage daily driver where I am not worried about road speeds, and something that can be used for fast Sunday drives and track time...Slow car driven fast, yada yada...With that said, I'm still in line for a 4RS and will pull the trigger as i'll retain the slow daily driver.
For me I am currently tossing up if I buy a new 718 GT4 or a used 991.2 GT3 , I dont plan on tracking either car as I have dedicated open wheeled race cars . for me it is just a weekend toy for spirited driving in up the mountains between my race and sprint weekends once a month and to just have something Nice as a special toy .
I have driven both cars and just love both cars and am torn between the two ..GT4 has less power than GT3 but the GT3 realistically has too much power , but the power is addictive , and I just love everything about the GT3 , accept the fact you have to be careful with it as it is just to fast for a public roads ..
GT4 has less power but more than enough power for a public road and has that Chassis that I felt more confident in , not taking anything away from the GT3 chassis as it is without doubt , just as amazing , for me the GT4 feels more gokart like and similar or familiar to my race cars and I do prefer the smaller cabin in the GT4 over the GT3 .
My problem like all of us who own these cars is being able to use the cars performance capabilities on a public road and not get locked up for it , my previous 997 C2 S had more than enough power , but just lacked that raw feel of the two GT cars , something I want in this next purchase
GT4 RS yeh would be nice if you could get one ,no doubt will appreciate in value , due to low number coming to Aus.
I am on the waiting list and spec one on the Configurator for $349 K so similar asking price for used 991.2 GT3 and as we know the same power to weight and performance as it bigger GT3 brother and if the current GT4 is anything to go by it should be an amazing drive.
At the moment a new 718 GT4 with my spec is $270K ,,,, so $80K saving and kinda feel I dont need anything more than that for the driving I plan to do , but as I said in my previous post I am still curious as to how track focused the GT4 RS will be and if that in anyway compromises its use on public road , will be interesting to see a real world review on it and not just sliding it around a track , some mountain road and B road blasting , the type of Driving most who own these cars realistically do ..
I know its a first world problem feel free to laugh
There were 30 on the list at Parra when they closed it. Having previous experience with this, when people get the call to put their money where their mouth is there is always a contingent who drop out. Then you factor in the GT3 RS announcement this year, and you'll see another bunch of people drop.
Most people who want one will get one eventually.
My 997 C2S is the perfect amount of power for the road. Just needs to be a bit lighter I reckon.
My 991.2 GT3 is miles too quick for the road. But living on the outskirts of Sydney I can be on appropriate roads in minutes.
Will be interesting to see where the Emira fits into the equation when it shows up.
Yes I also spoke to Parra and South Sydney Dealer and they also told me same thing 30 allocations and all were taken , but still put my name down for the inevitable drop outs ...
Jensen Button summed it up nicely. “Cayenne, people just think you should have got the 911, but with the emira. That’s it. You’ve got the best car they make”.
Now what is the point of Porsche Australia putting out this information? A car you can't buy for love or money and supposedly you still have allocations left?
https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/porsche-718-cayman-gt4-rs-first-allocation-not-sold-out-yet
What a crap piece of journalism that is , we have both spoken to our dealers and know that is just not the case , I was told point blank there are no allocation s available , so were in hell do these tools get their info from ....???
I am not totally convinced by the sound yet. Inside the cabin at high revs, it sounds quite good...but outside at low to middling revs it seems to have a flat, gruff sound similar to the GT4/GTS 4.0....largely because it is still handicapped by not having a centre merged exhaust like the GT3 so you are still effectively hearing 2 x 2litre 3cyl motors.....which proves yet again IMHO, that the classic GT3 sound that everybody relates to is largely because of the centre merged exhaust.
I will be able to tell you first hand how it sounds, both inside and outside, in a few weeks time when I am scheduled to spend two days on track at Spa in a 4RS with Porsche. I plan to take a good poke around and under the car and record some sound bites of the exhaust.
If anyone is curious about any other aspects of the car, let me know in this thread and I will report back.
I went into the SA dealer on the weekend and they pretty much said forget about it for a GT4RS. Full deposit list, plus a waiting list a mile long. I put down a deposit for a GT4 allocation and was only 3rd in the queue, which they reckon is about a 12-18 month wait before car arrival.
Some people prefer the comfort seats over the carbon buckets , I have seen this in a number GT3 and GT2 RS ,,,but I just dont see the point in a GT Car with WP option ...I can understand it is a Touring , but not is a WP spec ,d RS ,,,but each to his own
I think WGA may be lucky enough to get one , seems to be very difficult to get any allocations for Porsche GT cars these days .
I know someone who is supposedly 5th in queue and has submitted a build, but doesn't have an allocation.
I imagine the Felicity Ace sinking will only push things back further.
If you have a build spec in I would say you are in with a good chance , I say this because when I enquired , the sales man said dont bother with submitting a build , spec ,,,eg if a slot becomes available we will let you know , but highly doubt it ..
My dealer claimed so far they're only getting 7 cars, they would not commit to anyone else on the list even getting a car. That was before the Felicity Ace sunk.
Edit: I don't believe that will be the case but that is what they've currently been told by the mothership.
Does anyone know if the 4 RS or even the GT4 comes with Nose lift like the GT3 , from my experience in my 3 RS the nose lift is a must have item that extra 50mm of lift really makes a difference when getting over speed humps or poor angles on driveways and roads and avoids crunching the front splitter ..raises quickly lowers quickly really is a practical piece kit for these cars ...
Crap.... In exactly two weeks time I will be at Spa for 4 days training with Porsche. First 2 days were scheduled to be in the new GT4 RS (second 2 days are in a GT4 Clubsport)....but....just been informed by PAG that due to production delays with the GT4 RS, they will only manage to get 3 cars there by then so seat time will have to be shared between 10-12 drivers which should equate to 2 or 3 sessions across the 3 days. For the rest of the sessions, they are giving me a 992 GT3 to drive.
I will still be able to pass on some first hand experience but nowhere near as much as planned.
PAGs production problems have already delayed my GT3 Touring indefinitely and now this.
☹️
I have not encountered a Dip at speed yet , hopefully the lack of suspension travel and how still the RS is it will not affect it so far the nose lift has been a blessing with speed humps and bad entry and departure driveways at service stations etc
I'm not a huge fan of the WP on this car from an aesthetic point of view. Mango is definitely one of my favs though.
It was a standard inclusion on 991.2 GT3s, optional on GT4 RS. Is it included on 992s? I haven't bothered to check the configurator (and doing that from phone is a pain in the bum).
This sucks but was always a possibility with covid, the Felicity Ace, and now the war.
Would not be surprised at all if we see no GT4 RS in customers hands in Australia this year.
I know you're joking but there is a maximum speed over which the lift doesn't operate, and it isn't very fast at all.
I do really love Sig Yellow eg Mango in regards to WP the striped bonnet like on the 2RS looks better than the full carbon one , but I do prefer the bonnet painted over the two carbon options like on my RS .
Dont know the weight of the carbon bonnet but mine is silly light weight
The stupid thing on the GT4 RS is the bonnet is already CF, just painted. The only actual difference between WP and non-WP is the air intake scoops and the engine cover. The catch of course is some other interesting options are only available if you spec WP. What a shock!
So in effect you pay $28k to unlock other options (WP). Never mind that limited PTS (from the list of pre-approved colours) is another $19k, and true PTS is $38k.
$66k to access true PTS with no real benefit other than the intake noise in the cabin sounding more raspy (supposedly).
Sounds and looks like a cracking car I think anyone getting one will be able to thoroughly enjoy it as a weekend whip and track car. Steve Sutcliff says its the best car he's ever driven, high praise.
I just listened to the Catchpole one on the way home .... good luck getting one now.
Praying for the arse to finally fall out of the market so there aren't so many over-leveraged buyers. Cash is king!

That must be the signal orange car I saw earlier. There are so few of these actually built its probably the same car. AKA Porsche - Piech family owned cars.
May be an old man thing but will be interested to hear if it is too loud in the cabin. Drive.com.au says it is loud, but Henry Catchpole drove it 2700km and said he'd do it again.
Personally I always thought the Boxster dispersed the sound better thanks to the fabric roof compared to the glass rear hatch in a Cayman when doing highway miles. Otherwise, I am excited but probably won't be getting it until end of 2023 if I am being realistic with Porsche GT cars coming in to Australia so slow. I doubt we'll even get the 200 cars over the lifespan of the model that PCA were mentioning in November 2021 if logistics stay messed up.
My guess is it will depend what you are used to. When in Europe, I routinely did 2000-4500 kms road trips in my 991.2 GT3 RS and didn't blink an eye so it will have to be a whole lot louder for me to even notice. I will let you know.
Over the last 24hrs, I have now pretty much watched most of the GT4 RS youtube reviews and I have to say that all the Aussie reviews are universally crap. They always seem to send reviewers that drive the car like a grandma and can't actually, umm, drive. Comes across as very amateurish.
Funny you say that and I totally agree 100%, I was at SMSP pre covid say 2018 ish doing a sprint day on the South Circuit and one of the Aussie motoring Magazines were on the North Circuit doing track reviews of a number of Superscar like the Mclaren 650 , Lotus Exige, GTR Skyline and the AMG GTS , a Jag F Type R and one of the Aston Martins .
What I saw , was seriously poor driving from all of them and I do mean pathetic , to me it looked like none of them had even driven on a circuit before , and this could have very well been the case , but seriously they were terrible all day and did not get any better, my conclusion was that they were obviously employed for their journalistic skills , eg being able to put a good story together and not for their drive skills .
Since then I have never payed any attention to Aussie motoring Journo,s reviews , I just can not give then any credibility
I am not saying I am a gun driver or journalist, but I contacted the local Porsche PR to see if I could get invited to any future launches, as my channel is easily the biggest Porsche YouTube channel in Aus, and I get a heap more targeted views than some of the Aussie publications They couldn't be less interested. Again not saying I could do a better job, but Porsche in the UK and the US are much more open to other forms of media, even if it just gives a different perspective.
Raven,
I don't think they can even write a good story as well! Gone are the days of great Australian journalism of Peter Robinson, Stahly, Tucker and a couple others who's names have faded away.
Wheels magazine is an embarrassing shadow of its former self.
As much as everyone loves Chris Harris, he’s the one who coined this sort of behaviour. Now it has to be done to stay relevant. Meh, sideways is slower.
Sideways is definitely slower, but grip driving fast on track doesn't really come through on film. I still love seeing Chris Harris slide around in Supercars, no matter how pointless it really is
😜
If you think journalists are terrible at driving cars, wait until you see police officers training with their handguns. Abysmal. I shoot IPSC (run and gun) and our club is used by a number of agencies for training. My advice if you're ever on the opposite side of the law with a drawn gun ... just run in a straight line.
I’d keep at this…if you listen to Doug Demuro he still doesn’t get attention from some manufacturers despite being such a big channel.
Maybe best way into this is to do some late model reviews using borrowed cars - just to show what people could expect. While mainstream motoring mags don’t always do a good job they are a known quantity and anyone in the pr dept will be very risk averse. If you do a couple of reviews and can point to them as examples of level of quality (and also audience / demographics). The other thing is to have a pitch deck. There’s a VINwiki episode where he talks about developing pitch decks and approaching sponsors. Worth watching if you haven’t seen it.
Would be interesting for you to try some reviews. Finding an orange gt3 and doing a back to back comparison with your own car could be fun.
One more question for when you have seat time- how hot does it get in the cabin with the engine covers just made of plastic... Especially when driving for longer distances. I note that the Portugal reviews were done when the ambient temp was 7 degrees. Open the rear trunk to cool it quicker after a track session?
I just got my build slot allocation. June build - August delivery. Presuming no delays.
There are 10 cars coming in April/May as well. Very few cars per build slots which seems a bit weird to me.
(I had my name down in 2018)
That's wonderful news- great to know that PCA original expectations of 2nd quarter orders are being met which is no small feat given what's happened since the November 2021 official release.
Hi Snowman, are you saying you put your name on a waiting list in 2018 & have only just received an allocation?
Is it seriously a four year wait?
How does it work, do you put your name down on a list & wait for them to contact you (and only then you start telling them what you want)?
The Cayman will be electric within the next 3 years, not good for a long waiting list?
Well he had his name down for a car that didn’t yet exist. So the 4yrs is a bit of a misnomer.
With that said if you don’t already have a deposit down or have compromising photos of your porsche dealer the wait could be infinity for a new one.
Last 10 years or so it has been a game of trying to use whatever knowledge you can find on the internet, then guess if they'll make a specific car, then call your dealer and get your name on a list for a car that doesn't even exist. You're also playing roulette with the fact that it may not be what you're expecting when/if they do finally make it. This game has gotten really tiring over the last 6 or 7 years because of flippers, you now have to get your name down at least a year in advance of a sought after model being announced.
You know you're a pro when you start calling about cars that don't exist, and won't ever be made. I'm first on the list of a few cars because of that.
Keep in mind this game is only played by the nobodies like me, the connected people seem to always get cars list or no list.
PNCJDLL9
But pretty much as soon as the first rumour that they might make this car came about from spy shots of the 981 test mule they did I went and put my name down.
But I did say I'd only go ahead with the order if it was a Cayman with a GT3 engine. I'm still shocked they did it lol
Tasty spec! I like the White/Blue colour theme very much...
With regards to getting the Weissach package without roll bar, then adding the Clubsport package, does this essentially ditch the Ti cage for a steel unit?
Yep - saves a lot of money.
The irony is the Ti cage isn't FIA approved unlike the steel one - and you can't option the front cage should you want to either.
Got to say- that's a great story to know a Porsche Centre is actually following the order list and not just giving to their besties. I'm going to guess that's not MY Porsche Centre....
Just finished two days at Spa. Was supposed to spend the whole time in 4RS but due to factory delays, they could only bring 5 cars to the track instead of the planned 12. As a result we had to rotate the car around the 12 drivers. For the rest of the track time they gave me a 992 GT3 so going directly from one to the other was quite interesting.
As you would expect, it makes good power which eliminates the big weakness in the current GT4. The car is very agile and rotates very quickly but the front end tends to wash out much sooner than the new 992 GT3. I still reckon the back end is a bit of a problem as it tends to move about more under hard braking that a GT3. And I think it is still under tyred at the rear. I asked one of the engineers about this and he said that they actually asked for more tyre but the car would have required body and suspension changes to acccommodate so was deemed to expensive.
Sound wise, inside the car it is much, much louder than my 3RS…but it’s a good sound. Very classic GT3. But bizarrely, outside the car, it still sounds like a GT4 so does not have the classic GT3 howl. Blame the exhaust set up.
Overall, I really enjoyed the car but if faced with a choice between a GT3 or a 4RS, I would take the GT3.
Really interesting to hear a back to back comparison with the 992 GT3. I agree when you are seeing 315 size tyres on the GT3 vs 295 on the GT4RS it does seem like a disadvantage. I believe you can fit Front: 265/35-19 // Rear: 305/30-19 on a GT4 which should help with the front but not sure how much an extra 10mm will help in the rear.
Had an unplanned extra day in the 4RS so here are
some
second round impressions from Spa.
The day started out with snow on the ground but fortunately it ended up mostly dry.
As previously stated, it’s a very agile car, especially through Les Combe and Piff Paff. Quicker than a GT3 through here. Min corner speeds were higher than the GT3. But once through the apex, you can apply full power earlier in the GT3. End result, almost identical times.
The lower gearing means that the 4RS is actually a bit faster once on the gas and will pull a gap on the GT3. On the run down to Eau Rouge and the long run up Kemmel straight, the 4RS will gap/gain on GT3. The GT3 pulls it all back through Eau Rouge and Radillon because of its better grip and earlier power on out of the compression.
The brakes on the GT4 RS seemed better than the GT3. even though the 4RS moved around a bit more under brakes you could consistently brake a few metres later. Indeed the GT3 brakes seems a bit soft compared the 991.2 GT3 and comparedto the 4RS. I suspected that it was down to the pads so I asked an engineer about them. He told me that the GT3 was running the revised pads with reduced level of copper but Porsche had learnt from that and the GT4 RS was running an updated pad composition and that these updated pads would be applied to future GT3s.
And have I mentioned how loud it is inside! A couple of guys went looking for ear plugs after a couple of sessions complaining of headaches. It didn’t bother me but gee whiz it’s loud inside. Still quiet on the outside though.
So overall, every one who drove the 4RS loved it. Both cars were putting down pretty much the same lap times. Choosing between the two will depend solely of which diving characteristic you prefer. There is no bad choice here and no bragging rights of one over the other.
I personally prefered the GT3 on this track on this day but can imagine on smaller tracks, like Winton, the 4RS might be the preferred choice.
Heres a small video of me following the engineer, and Porsche Development driver, responsible for steering systems.

My two back to back chariots.
Thanks. Great write up
@WGA
and looks fun. On a related note - how does one get to do that - can you book that through Porsche experience? I’m keen. Have done a couple and enjoyed them.
or is very much invite only type thing?
Yes. He backed off into Eau Rouge and braked a bit early for Les Combe. it was a lead follow situation where we were introduced to the car. After two of these type of stints, it was then free driving in 30min sessions for the rest of the day. Still for an introductory lead follow situation, it was still pretty quick.
That’s a very good lap time considering they only had one full dry day in the car. I was scheduled to be there but unfortunately I had to pull out and head back to Aus. A Belgium mate of mine was there and did a 7:40 in a GT4 RS too so 7:38 in a strange car is pretty good!
There did seem to be a strange vibration type noise near the red line - presume that wasn't just the exhaust / engine note, I think it would become very annoying if it was??? Looked like they had a great lap clear of other cars too.
Congrats! I wanted one badly but my dealer said that in order to be fair to as many customers as they could, I could not get GT3 Touring AND a 4RS so I was ask to choose one. I went for the GT3 Touring which is currently on a ship. Hopefully next year I can get a 4RS too. I look forward to your local impressions.
Thanks WGA, your reviews really helped make me feel comfortable with my decision.
I’m glad your dealer made you pick one like a kid in a candy store, it might have helped me get one! I’m definitely not a high value porsche customer so was pretty surprised to get a call up.
My porsche centre said only 30% have ticked the Weissach Pack- I think it's too expensive in Australia. I will wait and get Suncoast exposed carbon fiber bits for the engine cover if the plastic really looks too plasticky....
Congratulations on getting one. You have been patient!
I know about 8 guys with 4RS orders (not all confirmed yet) - but every one of them has ticked the Weissach's pack so I find that statement questionable.
Also I heard there's a big price jump coming for any deliveries not already locked in with build slots. Be interesting to see if that gets a few people to drop off the list.
Are you sure about this price? I thought a 4RS in SA with no options other than the WP was at least $370K driveaway? My spec in Vic comes in at $399,418 due to the Dan tax.
OK update . I think I added a few options which deleted the Weissach pack . It increase Drive away price just shy of $380 K

I’ve spoken with my dealer twice and basically they are saying if you don’t have a slot already you aren’t really getting the car and don’t even bother ordering one unless you can wait 2 plus years. A mate who had a deposit down pre the specs announced but no build slot yet has also been told this week that same wait timeframe, so he withdrew his his deposit. In addition another mate who had a pts slot was just told that’s not going to be possible in under two years either. He’s unsure if will bother with it now. So lots of people being told it’s not coming, except for those who really have a slot confirmed in non pts.
On a related not, I’m a little curious as to how long some buyers that get one will hold this car - I keep hearing it’s way more intense than people realise and unless they are really into track days at 10/10ths they may tire of this pretty quickly on the road unless they are hard core…..going to be fascinating to see how it goes. I know a number of 991.2 gt3rs buyers re sold those very quickly as they came to that conclusion too….hard yards on road with noise etc ….some moved immediately into Mclaren and Turbo S etc.
I think it will be great.
So the price has gone up $12k and you have to pay that to get the car - despite having a build slot, is that how that works?
My understanding is anyone with a June build will get the original price and any after that get the new price.
But I agree with you on the concerns about the livability of these cars on the road. My 981 GT4 was horrible with catless Dundon headers. They lasted 1 week on my car before I went back to headers with sports cats due to how obnoxious it was inside the car
So at this stage I’m also keeping the old 981 in case the RS is a bit too much. The plan is to decide which one to keep in a year or so.
I was originally told only 8 cars were coming to my dealer in the first two years, which to me seemed ridiculous. Doesn't seem so ridiculous now.
By all accounts its obnoxiously loud in the cabin, which definitely may result in some fast flips.
It is obnoxiously loud in the cabin...... but only above 6000rpm which is where you need to live on track.
Below that, which is still above the speeds generally allowed in this country, it is relatively dull.
To give you an idea, this is my out lap in the 4RS at Spa. At 60kph in the pitlane you can hardly hear it. And even above that between 90-150kph (depending on what gear you are in) it is still relatively tame.
I got the same on the price rise. But also seems the 2023 model has Bose and upgraded headlights. So you are paying more but has some more thrown in. Am sure there may be some other changes to 2023 builds but I’m unsure. Someone else may know?

Review: the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS
By
Jeremy Clarkson
(

, April 24)
A colleague told me recently that he’d decided to buy a cottage in a Wiltshire village because the neighbours had two Volvos on the drive. So he figured they’d be nice people.
It’s an interesting point. People spend a great deal of time and care and attention on making their house look pretty and then they park a Nissan Juke in front of it. Or a slammed Honda Civic. I know one chap who has a beautiful house. Or it would be except for the fact that most of it’s usually hidden behind a godawful Lincoln Navigator.
If I were selling my house and a photograph of it were to appear in one of the property porn mags, I’d make sure the car in the drive was something restrained and tasteful but at the same time reasonably expensive to suggest affluence. A dark grey Range Rover perhaps. Or a 5-series BMW in navy blue. Or two Volvos.
In recent years this has been a problem for petrolheads who like driving quickly, because ordinary people tend to find flashy, growly, low and lime-green cars disgusting, and are mistrustful of the idiots who buy them. I’d love to have a Lamborghini but I wouldn’t want to live next door to someone who has one. I’d live in constant fear that he’d pop over to show me his tattoos.
So I was drawn recently to some YouTube footage of a new idea for home car storage. It’s like a shipping container with no sides and you drive in, press a button, and the whole thing slides underground, leaving no trace on the surface. I think the idea is that if you live in a city you can have secure off-street parking as well as a small garden, which is located on the roof of your “garage”. But it would be perfect for people, like me, who want to hide their guilty secret. You have mates round for a barbecue and they won’t realise, as they’re having a cold beer among your geraniums, that they’re right on top of your thousand-horsepower destroyer of worlds.
All of this came to me after a man from Porsche dropped off the new GT4 RS, which I figured would be a red rag to all of the plant-based Biden enthusiasts who live around this neck of the woods these days. It’s a car you might want, but it’s not a car you’d want to have on your drive.
I was wrong. Everyone who came to my door while it was out there swooned and cooed and wanted to sit in it. One girl, who has a shop selling linen with little flowers on it, asked whether it had Pirelli Cup tyres. Another who does nothing all day, so far as I can tell, except grow and plait her armpit hair wondered why it wasn’t four-wheel drive.
It was strange, but then it turned out that all of these people have spent the past few weeks watching
Drive to Survive
on Netflix and they’re all now fully paid-up petrolheads. Greta Thunberg so nearly had them but they’ve been whisked away at the last minute by a documentary about Formula One, and all of them now want a hot car that goes like a Saturn V, stops like it’s hit a wall and turns like a hunted antelope.
The GT4 RS is weird because in essence what Porsche has done is taken the naturally aspirated — I can use words like that nowadays — flat six four-litre engine from the bigger and more expensive 911 GT3 and plonked it in the smaller 718.
It wasn’t that simple, obviously. It needed a new exhaust system that would fit round the rear suspension, for example, and that’s why it’s not quite as powerful as it is in a GT3. But you end up with very nearly 500 horsepower in a car that is lighter and smaller, and therefore more nimble.
I liked the sound of this because, in recent years, the 911 has been getting a bit big. It was becoming more of a supercar really, and that’s not what it’s supposed to be. It’s supposed to be a sports car. And sports cars are little. Think MG. Think Spitfire. Think Mazda MX5. And now think Porsche GT4 RS.
Actually you can’t think GT4 RS because when you’re in it, it’s so loud you can’t hear what’s happening in your own head. You can’t hear anything at all, except the engine. It is phenomenally loud even before you push a little button on the centre console that makes it louder still.
But oh, my sweet lord, what a sound. I was told the other day by a neighbouring farmer that the best music is made by a colliery brass band. He used to be in Groove Armada, so he knows what he’s on about. And yet he’s wrong. The best music is made by this flat six. And when you take it up to 9,000rpm it’s the loudest as well. Not on the outside, mind. Only for those who are in it. Take note Jaguar, who do it, wrongly, the other way around.
It’s not what I call a “cheat” noise either. It’s not created by moving flaps around in the exhaust pipes or amplifying the noise through the stereo speakers. It’s the sound of this car breathing in through its carbon fibre ears, which are located where the rear side windows used to be. The downside is that you can’t see what’s coming at oblique junctions, but the death or serious injury that may result from this is a small price to pay.
A lot of enthusiasts will no doubt moan that it’s not available with a manual gearbox, but I didn’t mind at all. In fact I just happily tugged away at those flappy paddles as I was going along. Not because I wanted to change gear especially, I was simply using them like organ stops.
Now at this point you might imagine this car was designed mainly for track days. Not so. It’s stiff, for sure, and it has all the carbon fibre and downforce talking points that are necessary among track-day people, which, thanks to
Drive to Survive
, is now everyone, but it’s surprisingly compliant on the road, even in Oxfordshire, where the roads only just meet the dictionary definition these days.
It may not have the GT3’s double-wishbone front suspension, but it doesn’t really matter. You can literally fling the GT4 RS around the place and, like all good sports cars, it reacts like an excited puppy. Squealing and wagging its tail and making barky noises. In a GT3 you nod sagely when it does something well. In its baby brother you burst out laughing.
Price? It’s £23,000 less than a GT3, which means it’s £108,000. And that sounds like good value, but of course this is Porsche. So you’ll be expected to pay extra for the seats and the paint and “Oh, you want a key as well?”
Look on the bright side, though. You won’t have to worry about where you’re going to park it because you’ll never want to get out of it. I came home from the local pub in it last Saturday, via Exeter. And I deliberately left my wallet there so I’d have to go back.

The Australian article is so edited compared to the original The Times article. Newscorp obviously don't like having a dig at any of the other brands mentioned for fear of some legal department.... Thanks for posting the original as it is a much better read.
That price includes VAT. So, yes, half the price compared to Aus. When I bought my aussie GT3 RS, approx $200,000 of the $480K price was tax in some form or another. Daylight robbery.
Good on you for paying it. I don’t know if I could swallow that tax bill. It all depends I guess on your budget and how you’re buying. It’s outrageous any way you look at it. You can buy a $1m boat and only pay half that in tax. I could just see myself sitting down in the dealership, seeing the tax amount on the Order and just noping out of there with apologies to the sales rep. All of it will be wasted by ‘plant based Biden enthusiasts’ as Clarkson so amusingly labels it. All on value destroying idiotic pet projects, none on better roads.
The sales guys always tell you to close your eyes and don't look at the stamp duty, lux car tax, or dealer delivery lines on the invoice. Just think about the car you are getting.
just wish i could get one....silly world we live in isn't it.
also rather interesting that there are now 36 911 gt3 or gt3rs listed on car sales - thats quite a lot!
The cynic in me says this is PCA heading for the exit. No 488 Pistas on the market for 12 months and 7 of them now listed, six dealer cars… looks like Ferrari Australasia has the same idea.
Take comfort in the fact that those looking to flip are likely going to get burnt.
Yep, not a limited production car. Probably a few flippers will do well in the first few months (but then will be blacklisted by PCA). After that, you’d say it’ll have standard depreciation just like any other GT car.
I don’t understand the mentality of someone buying a GT4 RS to flip it straight away. I just priced one without a single option and it’s $350,000 in round figures so let’s say someone spent that with the intention of making $20,000 (probably the minimum you’d want to make).
The buyer who was obviously desperate to have one then has to pay an additional $33,400 in Government charges to register it here in Victoria. You’d have to be very keen to pay $403,300 or an extra $83,400 for a used GT4 RS with no options.
I'd say its because of the silly numbers being asked. Suspect a lot of 991.2 owners are simply putting a $400+k bait in the water on the off chance someone takes a bite.
The Porsche GT4 RS Is the Cayman That Finally Beats the 911
The GT4 RS smashes the hierarchy.

James Lipman
The Cayman Complex is a phenomenon I identified about seven years ago. While the concept isn’t limited to Porsches, the Cayman is the ultimate example. It means an automaker knows how to build the best-possible car but chooses not to.
This story originally appeared in Volume 11 of Road & Track.
SIGN UP FOR THE TRACK CLUB BY R&T FOR MORE EXCLUSIVE STORIES
If every car were as good as it could be, then a hierarchal model range would be meaningless. Plus, every vehicle would cost a fortune. So how do you maintain a hierarchy without being too obvious about it? You want to impress prospective buyers with the spec sheet, making them feel like they’re getting their money’s worth. You also want to offer an even more aspirational product.
The Cayman GT4 and its topless sister, the Boxster Spyder, are Porsche’s best sports cars. But they’re not the best they could be. They are light and the right size for two passengers and luggage. They have excellent transmissions. Their naturally aspirated engines are 4.0 liters—a number that makes Porsche aficionados weep with joy—and are placed amidships for balance that flatters any driver.
But at Porsche, the 911 has its engine out back for various long-standing reasons. The middle is better, which is why Porsche finds creative ways to move every new 911’s engine a bit farther forward. Porsche won’t admit that the Cayman has the better platform. It can’t. The hierarchy must be maintained.
James Lipman
Porsche found ways to tie the Cayman GT4’s hands without making that choice seem conscious. The 4.0-liter engine in the GT4 could be the same as the one in the 911 GT3. Porsche claims cost drove that decision, but Cayman and Boxster buyers regularly add tens of thousands of dollars in options. They would spend for the best. Then there’s the gearing, which is far too tall. Second goes to 83 mph and third all the way to 114! Porsche knows that tighter gearing improves acceleration and shorter ratios don’t cost more than tall ones. Why do this?
The new Cayman GT4 RS proves the existence of, and puts an end to, the Cayman Complex. It’s the lightest Cayman ever, with a GT3 engine and nearly 500 hp attached to a close-ratio PDK gearbox. And there’s downforce.
I had only one day on the roads in the GT4 RS. I did 50 highway miles and another 120 in the hills, then ran a bunch of errands on the way home—a real “one-car solution” day. So, what’s this hierarchy-busting Cayman like?
James Lipman
That depends heavily on the road quality. This is a true RS product, which means lightweight panels, bucket seats, and shocks that are brutally stiff even in the softest settings. A big swan-neck wing out back blocks the rearview, and the optional (on this Euro-market car) Clubsport roll bar blocks even more.
Even the mildest road imperfections jostle the Cayman like a skiff during a small-craft advisory. If you enjoy a coffee on your drive to the track or the canyons, pack a bib. Bluetooth phone calls are tough to hear over the abundance of road and engine noise. At freeway speeds, the engine turns at 3000 to 4000 rpm; the new gearing didn’t leave seventh alone for a comfy cruise.
These are not complaints, but simply observations that the GT4 RS has a narrow focus. It will beat the snot out of you if you try to use it as a daily driver, even if it does have reasonable luggage capacity and ample cabin space.
Then I turned off the highway and pointed up a silky mountain pass, and magic presented itself.
James Lipman
Sharing the cabin with a carbon-fiber airbox is a new level of motorsport-grade bliss. Thanks to the airbox, an abundance of revs, and the sharpest throttle control in the business, this RS will play a beautiful metallic symphony conducted by your right foot. The blitzkrieg that drills into your eardrums crossing 8000 rpm is unmatched by anything south of a multimillion-dollar Ferrari F50.
Fortunately, with the new shorter gears, it’s actually possible to reach redline within morally—if not legally—appropriate speeds. The PDK dual-clutch automatic, the only transmission available in the RS, is perfect as can be, ripping off shifts with stunning quickness and precision.
The engine is most effective in the top half of the powerband. It lacks turbochargers to provide shove down low, but because it revs so freely, spending an hour above 6000 rpm is no great hardship. This engine is clearly rooted in decades of podiums at Le Mans and Daytona.
James Lipman
With the nannies turned off, the exhaust valves wide open, and the shocks left in the softest setting (there is never a reason to use any other setting on public roads), the GT4 RS reveals itself. The stunning Highway 39 north of Azusa, California, might as well be the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The car is mechanically linked to your brain waves. The weight transfer, the feel of changing tarmac surfaces through the tires, the ability to change gear at any point in a corner without upsetting the balance—it’s all as natural as in any car ever. There are faster cars in the world, but I cannot imagine wanting to go any faster up this road. The GT4 RS inspires unmatched confidence. You don’t need the electronics to save you; little bits of adjustment are actually welcome when the car communicates so clearly. Plus—and this is important—the Cayman is the right size.
Naturally, it’s even better on a track, like Southern California’s Streets of Willow, where you don’t just enjoy the sensory experience, but actually get to play at the car’s limits. Its incredibly sharp responses and nuanced feedback allow you to make four or five micro-adjustments per corner. There’s all the justification in the world to keep the engine spinning above 7000 rpm, where your body tingles and the extra power over the standard GT4 is readily apparent. In the chicane, a sharp lift off the throttle shifts the weight just far enough forward to dance the back out. Loading up the beefy carbon-ceramic brakes over and over and hauling down from 140 to 40 is no issue.
The GT4 RS gives you enough immediate confidence to focus on things like line and placement, making it equally rewarding for beginners and seasoned track junkies. And in typical Porsche GT fashion, you can expect a totally stock vehicle to run hard all day at a 100-degree racetrack, air-conditioning blasting, without breaking a sweat. Though a GT3 is still technically faster thanks to extra rear grip, additional downforce, and a dash more power, you’d never be able to tell without a stopwatch. And frankly, the GT4 RS is more fun.
The Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is a celebration of what we love about gas-powered sports cars. Not in the overpowered, cammed-up nostalgic hot-rod way or the toxic “wasting as much fuel as possible for the LOLs” manner. In fact, the GT4 RS is remarkably efficient given its power, with a 400-plus-mile highway range on tap when needed. It celebrates mechanical precision. It’s a master class in feel and acoustic brilliance. Simply put, the GT4 RS is pure automotive excitement.
The next-generation Cayman will be an EV. I’m happy to know that I won’t have to ask “what if” Porsche had broken the Cayman Complex, and that when it did, the car was every bit as magical as I’d hoped. The GT4 RS is the best Porsche sports car of all time. Hierarchy be damned.
I'm just frustrated honestly. The day I picked up my GT3 in January 2018 I put a EOI down ($5k) on the (as of today) still unannounced GT3 RS. How much do you want to bet I will struggle to get one?
Then you see the same people flipping them 3 months after first deliveries on carsales.
If there was anything else that came close they'd have already lost me as a customer permanently.
Talking to my local dealer and they seem to think there is a decent chance of getting a GT4 RS at this late stage. They are asking for a 10k deposit. Are they yanking my chain or is this a likely scenario? Also not sure if a 10k deposit is normal?
Where is your local dealer? $5k is normal. $10k might be the new normal.
Last I was told Parra was only expecting 8 cars, and they cut their list at 30 people 18 months back.
^ if I jumped into a pool of liquid nitrogen wouldn't I die? Some of the analogies used in the video are just silly. Or maybe I am just getting old and grouchy.
I would love the Cayman GT4 RS, For a belt Round the track or a hilclimb sprint, But I think the engine noise in the left ear would get to you as a daily driver/ So the GT3 for me ( I wish)
I will stick with my 3 RS or the 992 GT 3 ,,,,,,Why because you can,t get a 4 RS for love or money all sold downunder and when they do arrive Wankers will start flipping them and the markup will be ridiculous ,, and they will flip them with next to no klm on them
992 GT3 RS another one you can,t get ,dealer says no , all gone
The Cayman has always been a really exciting platform & now with the GT3 being such a monster, the smaller size and weight (with the same engine) will be a real sweet spot.
If only I knew someone lucky enough to have an allocation......................
How many times have we seen GT cars with less than 2000 klm on them being flipped for more than list price on car sales , even the dealers were selling 992 GT3 for $100k over list and they were gone in 24 hrs last year,, 911 R that landed in Aus and was sold a few days later for close to a million and shipped to UK , just few examples off top of my head and there are many more, I could mention..
This notion of the flippers will not get to purchase a car in future is a myth , Porsche Australia dose ,nt care ,,,for love or money I could not get a allocation for 992 GT3 or a 718 4RS and the not yet released 992 GT3 RS.
Had a long history with the brand like most members of this forum and feel I have a good relationship with my local dealers .............but it has got me stuffed ?????
I will add there are others on this site with the same frustrations who can not get a allocation either .
This. I put my money down for the GT3 RS in January 2018, the day I took delivery of my GT3. I’m not convinced I’m going to get one as the sales manager is being evasive. To top it off they now claim that I never had my name down for the Spyder RS even though I was told at the time that I was first. “Even if you were first we can’t sell you two desirable cars that close together”.
I don’t get an allocation I’m finished engaging with the brand on a new car basis. Not to mention I’m going to trash the dealer every way I can. Hopefully my Lotus turns up in the next 6 months to take my mind off it
Lotus. Good choice! That Emira GT4 also looks like it would be a bit of fun.
I’m at the ship tracking stage. Think a few others on this forum may have theirs on board too.
Yep, good luck to them. Demand -1.
Always wanted an Exige - the Emira seems far more usable as a daily. Money down July 21; there have been quite a few production delays but the communication has been excellent. Thousand times better than the Porsche experience.
I had an Exige for a while and only moved it on to make room for the 4RS, the team at SSC who do Lotus in Australia made for the best car purchasing experience I have ever had.
I’ve had approximately monthly emails, and 3 phone calls from the COO, plus invites to events along the way. I know Lotus is a tiny company, but they sure know how to keep the contact consistent and keep their customers well informed. I’d agree with
@cafe_racer
, so far this is the most pleasant car transaction I’ve ever had.
What an idiotic comparison test. MC20 not driven on the same roads, and by the looks only driven by one of the drivers. Lotus with Touring pack (not sporty enough). GT4 RS having to mix with what amounts to a million dollar car in the 296GTB.
At least the GT4 RS got rave reviews. Congrats to all our members who were lucky enough to get an allocation
After all the comments today over the 3RS release, I got to say I prefer the simple design of the 4RS. Horses for courses, but I'd be nervous tracking and going at 10/10ths in a $600k 3RS.
Exactly like the 992 GT3. Why have all Australia allocations finished whereas the rest of world is still ordering into next year. Just weird since they make a very hefty margin in Australia versus overseas markets where there are multiple official importers of Porsches. Apparently 4RS production run until mid 2024 so still time for you to have fun in the Emira and then get a 4RS (with a 2024MY price hike for your loyalty)
Nuts!
When I Spoke to Dealer late last year I quoted what AP said in one of the interviews eg that everyone who wants GT4 RS can have one ...??
The dealer smiled and said that the production run was for two years and they can only build so many cars during that period and Australia had filed its allocation for the car , the only way we could get more is if they finish all of the cars currently ordered before that two year window closes .
I Believe this did happen on the 991.2 GT3 RS back in 2019 and they did build some additional cars , but at that time the Factory was at full manufacturing capacity and they did not have the current shortages that are plaguing the world wide automotive industry .
Even people with 4RS orders locked are having items dropped off them, e.g. PDLS+ headlights and Bose aren't going on US cars. So seems they are focusing on just getting as many out the door as possible. The car could end up like the 993 Turbo with 6,000 globally. Not a limited run, but still not common.
Have all the build slots gone already? I got sent some cups and a letter saying thank you for your order….but never heard back
😆
…. Well at least I got some free cups…
Several 4RS spotted in the wild at Nurburgring yesterday and Spa today, with and without Weissach Pack.
Unfortunately the RSR car for rent was already booked for both tracks when I booked our drives.
I spoke to a couple of guys driving them and instructors familiar with all the GT cars and there seems to be universal love for the car
It seems it is only people who want to daily these things that have issue with the cabin noise. You've got to wonder why the hell they're choosing to daily in a GT product though. Everyone else is raving about the car.
Yeah, the cabin noise thing seems to be so mixed. Some people say its just like a GT4 when at low revs cruising around. And others say that you'll go deaf driving it without earplugs. Guess time will tell and each person has different tolerances.
From watching videos, if you're pootling around it seems fine to me, although with a slight drone. Its at WOT where it seems to get very loud, and I can only imagine what it is like in the cabin. To me that is a plus, but to a lot of people it isn't.
Surely no one is buying an GT car as a legit daily driver…… Acceptable noise at low revs and roaring at high revs is ideal - look how many people fit after market exhausts to ramp up the noise.
If you want quiet, buy an EV
😂
.
I can confirm every one of the 4RS in photos above (as well as a plethora of 997 and 991 GT3 & RS) were all being punted hard at Ring or Spa.
shame I can’t drive the ring one handed with phone in the other - a dude in a GT2 RS MR came past me so bloody fast I barely saw which way he went but I did notice front right wheel hanging in the air. Would’ve made an epic video.
By the way, the red and yellow cars above were in Manthey Racing yard in Meuspath next to Nurburg. I assume that means a Manthey kit will follow for the 4RS.
We had been lined up by someone at home who knows someone who knows someone who works at Manthey to tour their facility but they were closed Saturday and we ran short of time Sunday so I didn’t get the chance to ask what they have planned.
Well I've booked Phillip Island for November 8th - sure hope we've seen the last of these delays. My shipping arrival date actually came forwards 1 day recently (now due in port Oct 5th). Surprisingly I know of a few people with cars on the way but it seems there's a few different ships carrying them.
Righto, GT4RS order signed today at PCB, 5% deposit paid.
No confirmed allocation as yet but he agreed with me when I said you wouldn’t ask me to sign a contract and pay 5% if it wasn’t very likely. He also said I’m at the top of the list and there will be another batch, they will know more in coming months, likely 10-12 months delivery from now.
The sales guy reckons the 10 orders he holds he is confident will all be fulfilled. In fact, he said they’ve been told to take further GT4RS EoI - no guarantees but there could be more to follow. He also mentioned Spyder RS is coming but not on their system yet.
Dealer sales guy said invites for 4RS launch will go out soon for October, first customer cars will be used for the launch. I think he said at Essendon airport?
Seems I was mistaken, customers can't take delivery till after PCA do a "launch" so will have to cancel a couple of track days. A bit frustrating knowing it is sitting there ready to go, i'd rather be driving than going to some spectacle.
That would be very frustrating
I have not seen anything regard the Launch at any of the Sydney dealers yet , but will be keen to go have a look when they get one
I think our boat has been stuck in Freo for an extended period of time too. Now almost a week late in its estimated arrival time (now saying Melb arrrival Oct 10th - presuming our cars are on the same boat).
I've booked PI for Nov 8th. Hopefull that will still be on the cards.
Mine is sitting in a warehouse ready for collection in Essendon, awaiting good word from PCA post the "launch". I had to cancel a couple of track days, I'm down for PI on the 8th Nov too, if we get the cars on the 5th Nov post launch, it won't leave us long to do the required run in period.
I've been told about this delay until the launch. But I haven't been told when that will be.
Has it been confirmed there is a required run in period? I took my GT4 to Sandown with 42kms on the OD - was told to just go for it. But I've heard the GT3's have this run in requirement, but not sure if its a MUST?
I also tried to ensure our cars weren't effected bu the fuel rail bolt stop sale but have heard crickets on that front.
I got told run in required for the GT4RS, and seems like there is some software limitation till you hit the required k's. I took a GR Yaris straight to Targa High country and a Lotus Exige 420 straight to Sandown with delivery k's and no issues, so maybe I can do the same with this!
In my opinion run-in is a furphy, designed to cover the factory's arse in case they gave you a 'friday' car. They have to warrant the thing regardless what you do due to Australian consumer law anyway.
If they're limiting the cars in software that is a new low. Oh wait - a subscription to heated seats is a thing with another maker so maybe not
PCB told me the launch would be in October at Essendon airport so maybe your car is the star of the show? I haven’t received an invite yet so I assume late Oct? They’ll have a mutiny if they hold you blokes up for too long
😬
My 991.2 GT3 was one of the earliest in the country - it was almost two months before I got it even though it was here. The excuses were pretty lame, started off being about compliance, but by the end what they were saying was ridiculous. It amounted to "the car is in Freo, and we can't get it here" which was complete BS. I figured they were using it to show connected clients the car.
Hopefully that means you get the invite to the launch lunch in a few weeks time.
Am sure you will tick quite a few of the option boxes to replace your 3RS.
Qld launch is Nov 4-5 for the 4RS
Yes, it will replace the 3RS but I don't intend to go over board with the configurator this time around. Its mots probably going to be white with blue wheels and blue accents to evoke the 996 GT3 RS I used to own.
My biggest dilemma is the Weissach pack. Apart from the stomach churning cost of $30K, I actually think the car looks better without it....except for one item...... the induction scoops on the rear windows. For these alone, I am seriously tempted. Wish you could configure these separately.
Agree with Weissach- it is so expensive for cosmetic enhancements. I am considering this:
https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/sku718gt4cfit.html
Still not cheap but it does look great as you point out.
I skipped weissach as it didn’t make the thing any faster, just cosmetic. I would have only ticked it as you have to tick it to then get PTS. I decided to skip it and see if a MR kit comes out instead.
I was determined not to go Weissach Pack because externally I’m not a fan of all the black bits as it is and the black bonnet makes it look a bit JDM racer. So much so I contemplated ordering a black car so it all blends in….but I hate polishing.
I got sucked into the Weissach vortex by the time I placed an order
🤦♂️
The induction scoops were a big driver, definitely much better than the flat plastic ones. And do they help create “that noise”……? After seeing a couple of WP and non WP cars in the flesh, I decided the plastic dash has to go. Cost of leather and Racetex dash is the same $3,300 or so but Racetex is only available as part of WP so that pulled me in. Racetex seemed to me to suit the car.
WP added about $23k if you ditch the titanium cage and tick the no cost clubsport pack with steel cage instead. That takes a $370k car to mid $390s (which includes $100k or so in LCT and Vic stamp duty…….nuts). Either way it’s about the price of 2 used GT4s.
Also playing on my mind, I heard from factory and from the dealer that circa 90% are ordered with WP for both 3RS and 4RS. Not sure how much truth there is to that, probably their marketing spiel to sucker most of us into ordering WP which no doubt has a slug more margin in it for Porsche. Creates a bit of FOMO, do I want to be with the 90% cool kids or the 10% self assured minority. Can’t see WP adding $23k in the used market. But what the hell, price is stupid regardless of WP and I wanted it to feel as special as possible.
in the end I gave up tying to rationalise WP as the car itself is not a rational purchase. The conclusion in the end was, well, YOLO
😂
That’s $6,300 plus shipping plus local install
😲
. Makes the $23k Weissach Pack seem reasonable value
😂
Must be more money down in Vic than Qld as the SA told me only around 30% are ticking the Weissach option.
I can understand getting it in overseas markets where it is much much cheaper than Aust but I was even having to close my eyes on the $8,800 dealer delivery fee. Sure am going to enjoy the launch lunch.
Same as this arctic grey, blue wheels, black calipers.
The side by side images remind me that I really do prefer a painted bonnet. So before the order is locked, I may go back to non WP and leather dash. Not sure. Those bloody intakes......
I also opted for blue interior trims and belts as well as satin blue cage but I reckon the cage might go back to black.
DB Carbon is another mob that will no doubt offer the intakes aftermarket:
https://shop.db-carbon-interieur.de/epages/61541539.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61541539/Categories/Porsche
You can also get the naca ducts in carbon which I'd do depending on the base colour of the car:
https://shop.db-carbon-interieur.de/epages/61541539.sf/en_US/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61541539/Products/1530/SubProducts/1530-0001&Currency=EUR
I'm going for white. First option I ticked was front axle lift.
Clubsport package but dealer won't be installing the fire extinguisher. Also heard that whilst the LED lights are still OK for Aust deliveries, Bose sound system is holding things up at manufacture. So be sure to tick that no cost option.
yeah..... I agree with DJM. Cant watch STG or Mr JWW. I have got to like Doug Demuro after his review of the 4RS.
But each to their own. Great to have content to watch since it feels like so long ago since the car was announced.
They do in Europe due to limited parking, so I’d say there are plenty who would daily it. Not a majority, but certainly enough people to make it a thing.
I can’t stand Doug. Reeks of a guy who doesn’t give a stuff about cars and is only playing a role. Same as Mr JWW just in a different way.
JWW lost me when he ordered his 4RS in Ruby Stone which just doesn’t suit the car so had it painted bright purple “the day it arrived”. These prolific YouTubers content is too contrived and all about clicks.
reminds me of reality TV (The Block anyone) - some of them start out OK and get more and more extreme and further from their original intent as they anxiously chase content to attract eyeballs.
You just basically described most YouTube car 'testers'
🙄
Most are just rich kids with nothing else to do, except spend daddy's money and describe themselves as 'influencers' to be popular
Different YouTubers appeal to different viewers I guess. Some presenters style and content might annoy while others don't.
From my perspective, I try and look past style (which I admit is really, really hard with some) and look for credibility. Mr JWW is a case is point, I am certainly not mad about his style, and only end up watching maybe very 2nd video he puts up, but in my eyes his credibility has grown. He has actively tried to turn himself to a pretty good steerer. He spent a year in the Caterham Racing Academy and a year campaigning a Praga R1 - a seriously fast aero car. And now, he is a very good pilot.
Which is the exact opposite to Doug Demuro who spends 90% of his videos talking to a static car then does a quick zip around the block, occasionally gassing the car along the way, while waxing lyrical about the cars handling, etc. AFAIK, he has never be seen on a track with any of the cars reviews. He has zero credibility. Just a talking brochure.
Supposedly Mr JWW is a very cruisy bloke in real life. But his online persona is cringe as f.
Doug's personal cars are 4 wheel drives, landrovers, landcruisers etc. He's definitely an enthusiast, but in a totally different sphere where you can't get the youtube views. Which is why he comes across the way he does. Completely fake with no substance or credibility to his opinions.
The credible "vloggers" actually have some motoring/journalist/engineering background and ideally can drive a car properly. At least, that is what used to be the currency. Now, if you are wealthy enough to not need to work, so you have loads of time to only walk around with a selfie stick then you too can be a car vlogging sensation.
The vloggers program schedule;
Video 1. Talk about the new car you are about to buy, spec etc.
Video 2. Taking delivery of car. Walk around it and talk about how excited you are.
Video 3. Talk about how you are going to mod it (Only visual/aesthetic treatments)
Video 4. Now time to sell car.
And repeat..................as that is all the attention span anyone has.
I think just as important as their driving skills is their level of impartiality/ independence. Mr JWW was outed by Chris Harris a while back on the GR Yaris when JWW asked Litchfield for cash to install their suspension mods on JWW's car.
I realise it's no different to Wheels mag knowing Hyundai is a big spender for advertising space. Or James Halliday getting boxes of free wine to sample and then possibly even give a review on.
Here is Doug's soapbox on the topic
His main audience is American. I think what he provides in their market is pretty good to be honest. Its just that there are a bunch of English guys who are far better (imo).
Each to their own. I've heard plenty of people say Catchpole is a wanker, and he's one of my favs, so what do I know?
agree the Poms do it better in many things, particularly TV crime...
I also quite like Catchpole, although I only tend to watch stuff that has been shared via this site. I also do like CH, although I do realise he has his own favourites.....
Very much gone off the former TG presenters......
When I met Sam (STG) and his wife Vicky. They both came across as a really nice couple so I cannot understand why anyone would judge and sling insults at people they do not know. If you don't like their You Tube content then it's easy don't watch it. No need to get nasty. Ok rant over.
He does have a Ford GT, so it is not all off roaders, but I agree it doesn't mean he is able to use it as intended.
Staying relevant on YouTube is a crazy moving target, which is why I never bothered chasing the views like that (and why my channel will always be a slow burn).
I do give them credit though, as it is hard work trying to chase the 'algorithm'. Like STG's street driving the GT4. Everyone else is doing track reviews, and you know there are still going to be a bunch of owners who don't track it and just bought it because it is the new exclusive thing.
Fair point. I've deleted my post...
But! I have met him personally...twice, and after a private message to me on social media being an arrogant smart mouth when I was trying to help out, I shall refrain from calling him a name on here that I would definitely call him to his face
Having driven these two cars back to back over 4 days at Spa Francorchamps, there is no bad choice here. What car you might select as the best would be purely down to personal likes and dislikes. For me, if presented with a choice, it would be the GT3. As the reviewer said, it is the more sophisticated platform and I personally felt more comfortable going very fast in the GT3 than I did in the GT4 RS. Especially in high load very fast corners such as the Double Left (Pouhon) and Blanchimont at Spa.
Thx WGA, great photos. Silver would look pretty boring but for the gold wheels
🙂
Mate has a 991 GT3RS in that exact combo, and I do like it, although the red does really pop!!!
I have to agree! Never warmed to red cars usually, but I think Guards looks better on this, than the silver... could just be the photos?
Did anyone go to the PCSS launch? I saw they threw it at a private residence in my hood for all order holders, sadly I am not one of them
https://www.instagram.com/p/CkegCH-BY6x/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
I don't have insta so I can't see the photos, but I saw one photo come up and know exactly which house it is. Chris Hemsworth was linked to buying it last year.
He didn't end up buying afaik, just looked... I believe the original owner Steve Shelley still holds it and he has a close affinity with the marque, hence the PCSS event... he also owns the Pheasant Wood track, what a bloody legend!
https://www.sammutgroup.co/project/nautilus/
I think the Red and Yellow look mega great purely as there are enough offsets with the black plastic/ carbon fiber. However, my bosslady told me not to get one of the fun colours....
So looks like two cars at each launch. One 'demo' and one customer car.
As previously mentioned they have 3 cars. I believe 2 of us are collecting our cars on Saturday but the 3rd owner is currently OS so will it will be there for a short while on display.
Awesome pictures from the PCSS launch at Steve's house. They could have used my beach front house...
🙂
I'm collecting my GT4 today so I am very excited. I have a friend who receives his GT4RS next year so very keen to see it in the flesh.
So Brighton had 4 cars last night. White, Black, Shark Blue and Artic Silver.
Hard to take pics because they had these shitty coloured lights in the room.
My main take from it was these cars are way hotter in the flesh. Also I think Weisachs is imperative. The only non WP car there just looked like a normal GT4. The carbon intakes and side pods are so much bigger and give the car such extra presence.
Mine
I would love Ruby Star on a GT3 Touring or a GTS (indeed if I was ordering my GT3 Touring now, it would be Ruby Star for sure) but I just don't think it looks right on the 4RS with the wing and all the carbon of the WP. I am going to stick with White/Blue or maybe Red/Gold.
Can't help but feel that there might just be a few disappointed buyers once they hear the sound of the car on the outside.
Everyone raves on about the sound inside, which is a truly epic GT3-like high pitched scream...BUT...on the outside they sound absolutely nothing like that.
Indeed, they sound more like a slightly angrier GT4. There is absolutely none of the GT3 scream. And that's because of the exhaust design where there is no centre merge point like the exhaust on a GT3. So what you are effectively hearing is 2 x 3cyl 2.0l engines!
I suspect quite a few owners will be looking to swap out the standard exhaust for one of the 3rd party ones, such as JCR, in an effort to make the outside sound like the inside.
Here are two sound bites from my Spa adventure which demonstrates the flat tone of the RS under load out of La Source.
IMG_8323.MOV
IMG_8324.MOV
Its well known at this point surely? Aftermarket exhaust was always going to be the way to go for a lot of guys. I'm just glad Porsche is still making a car like this. They won't be able to keep making them much longer.
Maybe not as widely known as you might expect.
At the launch the other night, not one prospective owner I spoke to was aware of the difference in sound. Generally, they mostly thought it was going to sound like a GT3 on the outside because very few youtube videos have said anything about this. They have all focused on the inside sound.
It doesn't affect me. I will take the car as is. Besides, I have yet to hear a 3rd party exhaust that is not highly obnoxious. Plus they all tend to sound somewhat artificial.
I’m tempted to just take the OPF material out like some in the US have done on their 992 gt3’s. Unsure if there is a sensor in the AU cars to detect its removal.
Also can someone let me know how the harnesses are attached to their cars. Via the roll bar or to the firewall?
thanks
So for the lucky bastards who have taken delivery……….how’s the first couple days been? I’ve watched all the rave reviews but nothing like hearing it from an Aussie owner.
Picked up the car Saturday from Porsche Doncaster, excellent delivery and new car experience. I did some big run in k's over sunday/monday so that I could get the car to 9k rpm. Nothing like a long drive up the Hume to get to know a car. Coming from a lotus and some older 911's this seemed like spacious luxury on the fwy!
First session out I was doing 1:46's and got a couple of seconds off that throughout the day as I got used to the car, it has a lot more to give than I was able to do today. Turn in was precise, sound was excellent. A few tweaks to make with setup (needs more camber in the front and some toe in on the rear). But aside from being quick it was also extremely fun to drive and felt very approachable at limits on some of the slower corners. I kept traction fully on today, however look forwards to making some setup changes and getting traction off with this in future. It squirmed a bit under braking, however the computers did a good job of making me feel like I was a better driver than I am. Just need to get a harness put in now. Next is Challenge Bathurst later this month.
It looks amazing Chris & great to see it being driven as intended straight away. Also I’d be surprised if you’d been able to sleep much over the last week.
Nice one
@cafe_racer
the issue with caymans is lack of adjustability out of the box with camber- annoying really.
Can I ask what car you have come from and what time you last did at the island?
You can contact pcm for harness mounts they aren’t costly and come in a set for both sides.
Hey Peter, Porsche Doncaster has the harness mounts on the way for me, was pleased to see on Snowys car it mounts on the firewall and not the cage.
previous, 420 Exige was 1:49's and a M4 GTS 1:50's.
I'm not sure it needs a lot more from me as Chris summed it up pretty well. It's a brilliant car - it's fantastic on the roads and the track (albiet it needs a better track alignment). If you put some Trofeo R's or the new Cup2 R's on I expect it would be mind blowing on track.
As it is I was still short shifting mine (using 7th down the straight, short shifting through 11, 12 and running gears up through many corners), I was conservatively slower through T1, T12 than I am in my 981 GT4 still, but still did a high 1.44 which is quicker than the old GT4 ever was which was running much better rubber. I also ran the whole day changing gears with the stick as a sequential shifter - was so much more fun than using the paddles - I loved it!
It's hard really to put the car in to words but my best way to say it so far is "It's not disappointing".
BBC TopGear s33e2 that was on in England Sunday night 6 Nov has the 4RS driven by Chris Harris. If you can get your hands on the episode well worth a light hearted view. It was up against the 296GTB and a Pagani.
Just collected my new car. Very excited! I have taken it straight down to get PPF. Then I will try and clock up the 1500km quickly to wear the engine in. After that, straight to "the bend" to see what she has got! I really like the silver and black combo I went for. The car looks a lot better in the flesh, then in photos. Minimal experience driving the car thus far, however look forward to talking/writing about it and also comparing to the GT4, which I previously owned.
The spoiler kind of does it for you regardless. It definitely isn't small.
There are few combinations I've seen that don't work. They all look decent to my eyes.
Dropped into PCW yesterday and saw these beauties. My preference is for the GT Silver and Arctic Grey. The white looks a little plain IMO. Well worth having a visit to see in person.
To be fair he probably only did that for click bait views.
~$6000 better than $48k or whatever it works out to with Weissach + Approved PTS. PTS plus is $28k vs $18k so $58k to get something historic that isn't on the approved list. Nuts.
I wouldn't kick this out of my garage...
I am seriously considering an approved PTS colour for my 4RS if only because the standard colour options are all pretty ho hum. I love Ruby Star...but only on wingless 911s. In fact a Ruby Star 964 RS is one of Porsche's all time greats. But it doesn't suit a GT car IMHO.
My three colour choices are:
Pastel Orange
Signal Yellow
Pure Green
The configurator is not the same as seeing them in the wild. Signal yellow is not really my first choice for a lot of 911's but the pics I have seen on the GT4RS seems to really work.
Time to end this boring monochrome monotony that plagues our roads these days
Pure Green (Y56) is close to RS Green (2DB) but they are not the same. Pure Green has a bit more yellow and pops a lot more in sunshine. You can see the difference in the photo where the two colours are side by side.
Its so hard to get an accurate representation from samples or the configurator. Some colours you struggle to photograph as well. Makes it very hard to make an informed decision without seeing a car in that colour in person.
Miami is one that seriously throws me. In person in the shade or low light I do not like the colour at all, in full sun it looks good. In photos it looks lighter than it is and more blue, closer to Riviera (it is nothing like it in real life). Really hard colour to capture accurately. It doesn't help that the majority of people are looking at photos on their phone and iphones especially screw with the colour balance and brightness to make things look better than they are.
200km in the GT4RS…
keeping it under 6k rpm is somewhat of a challenge. The urge to plant it is real! The car sounds very cool. The gt3 engine is far more lively (versus gt4), gear changes are rapid quick, and gearing nice and short. Able to use 3rd and 4th in the Adelaide hills where it was hard to leave 2nd in the gt4. Car feels very special to drive. Even when idling outside the car you can hear the vents behind you trying to suck in air.
While I haven’t heard 9k rpm yet, currently the noise in the cabin is fine thus far. This is coming from a guy who had a race exhaust on a gt4, so take that as you will. It sounds like a mouse compared to what I am used to.
suspension is quite bouncy on bad roads. But again, I am quite used to hard suspension so this was to be expected. I’ll track once 1500km comes up. Trying to knock 100km a night.
glad I purchased the FAL for peace of mind. Very easy to clear most problems.
Interior I like. I like the combo between buttons and touch pad. Even though it’s pcm 4.0 it’s better then the 981 system. Apple play works well. Race tex dash is very cool. The deep sea blue interior could be brighter, it almost looks black with limited light. Miami blue would have been better to make the colour pop. I had the steel cage painted and belts in matching colour.
next update when i hit 1500km and use launch control!
I was talking to my friend last night who came out with me, who has a 992 gt3. We discussed the same road! I’ll try and get there over the coming days. It should be lovely for the setup.
That rear window crack has been complained about on rennlist. Its a common problem supposedly.
I watch most of Harry's reviews and that was pretty standard. He's an old bloke at this stage so his opinions are never going to 100% gel with someone much younger. You only have to look at his favourite cars aka the ones he owns to get a sense that dynamic purity at least at this stage of his life is not something that appeals. His favourite car is a Countach
The reason I watch Harry is he never goes near a track, and drives crummy roads which are pretty much the conditions we have here.
Yes, agree that Harrys car preferences are a bit, how shall I say, "niche". His love of his Lancia Fulvia and Lambo Espada says it all really.
Even so, I have watched Harrys videos ever since he launched on Youtube years ago as I kind of relate to what he says...but I just found his 4RS review to be a bit off compared to some of his others. BTW, I am also an avid watcher of his Harry's Farm stuff.
One of the reasons I like to watch his stuff is that I have driven "Harry's Road" on a number of occasions in various machines including 991.2 GT3 RS, 991.2 GT3 Touring, 964 RS, 997.2 GT3 RS, etc. It's just outside the very pretty town of Burford in the Cotswolds. While UK country roads can be pretty gnarly at the best of times, the roads in the Cotswolds are actually not that bad compared to most parts of the UK.

Fetching info...
The one that I found that was really off was his original 992 GT3 review. He then turned around and stated in this video he'd rather have the GT3 over the GT4 RS. I think he meant he'd rather have the GT3 touring over the GT4 RS.
He probably doesn't want to be seen in a car with a huge wing more than anything.
I think out of the current Porsche range his favourite has been the 911 Turbo S or maybe even the Boxster Spyder manual. He likes what he likes, despite throwing superlatives at the previous 991.2 GT3
Very impressive to see you driving your 4RS in its element. I think you still have a couple of days to improve on that time? Is it the regularity or open group? I'm thinking you will be too fast for regularity!
I am not sure that is correct. The components in the photo are part of the underfloor aero not the baffles I am aware of for balancing aero downforce front and back when you adjust the wing.
In the 991.2 GT3 RS, the baffles (or the aero blocks as they are referred to) look like this and are forward of the front wheels. They are held in place by two screws and can be removed in about 3 minutes each side. I used to adjust the rear wing and remove the aero blocks every time I went to the track. You really can feel the difference.
Not sure the GT4 RS is the same but this is how it worked on the 3 RS which is essentially the same platform forward of the front pillar.
The baffles in the front are a separate thing again. In the 981 they were removable like above. In the 4RS they are an adjustable slide with 3 different positions to match the 3 position options for the rear wing.
Put the car up on a hoist this morning to do those front baffles as well. It’s amazing to see just how much extra aero work is under the car - and to see just how tight all the exhaust packaging is compared to my 981 GT4
I made some minor changes to setup with stock parts and it felt very stable. Little bit of toe in on the rear and some more camber up front. Nothing left to do now.
Was the sprint before the regularity. There were some fast cars there! And some very good drivers.
That 8000-9000RPM is so addictive and the pop at the end! Love it! I just did a day at the Bend on the international circuit. I have footage but having issues rendering it properly. Hopefully get it sorted too. I left the car completely stock for the first outing.
I am using trackaddict, external GPS unit, with a samsung note10+ phone. the footage is fine. But when I use race render 3 software to put it all together it adds this really annoying background noise. I can't figure out what the issue is.
First track day below; Car is stock as per factory spec, excluding maximum aero.
That’s an impressive lap time straight off the showroom floor
👌🏻
That’s as fast as my best ever lap in a sub 1200kg, track only, 550hp FD RX7 on semi slicks. In a standard road car! Proves yet again that Porsche know how to build great road cars that work on track,
PCB offered their shark blue 4RS to me yesterday (and no doubt lots of others got a similar call) - the offer was if you want it, they need immediate $50k deposit, balance no later than 20 December. A little over list price.
I declined, I’ll wait for my order to be delivered in 2023. The sales guys were ringing around their clients in the morning and it sold quickly, some young guy went straight to the showroom and paid $50k. I assume he’s the only guy in Aus who’s managed to buy a 4RS without ordering and waiting…….
I did share with a couple of guys I thought might be interested but PCB did ask that I not post to forums etc.
Their Carmine red 992 GTS demo was also offered in the same call, on the same terms.
Neither car was for sale when I asked last week but the dealer principal Robert apparently decided yesterday he’d let both go and bolster 2022 sales numbers.
YOLO so I bought the GTS to keep me entertained for a year while I await the 4RS……
🤷♂️
bit of a whirlwind day! I reckon I got the call around 10 and had transferred the deposit by 12:30…….and the 4RS was also sold in that time.
I think pcb do well playing hard to get on that blue car- all sorts of stories. Gotta have clubsport package though imo.
The GTS is a hell of a car! We did Porsche Precision and got to flog a list of cars including GTS 2 and 4 and they really are a sweet spot.
I asked if the blue car was for sale and was told no it’s being kept for promotional purposes.
until yesterday when they called and said $420k, if you want it be quick….
seemed odd having Weissach with no cage and no free Clubsport pack
🤷♂️
Yeah and a friend was called and told it was for sale on the launch weekend by one of the team, he made his way down and the change of mind story was told- that they would keep for a year for promo, I think mixed communication. They did advertise price I believe on the sign aswell. Either way I’m sure someone is going to have a nice weekend drive this weekend.
Congrats...BUT....Damn you....I offered to buy that red GTS 6months ago only to be told its not for sale so I asked the sales rep to please call me if they change their mind. When I had my RS into PCB for service about 6 weeks ago, I reminded them of the same thing....but I didn't get a call.
Sorry about that. When their position changed yesterday, perhaps “recency effect” worked to my advantage - I’d only asked about it maybe 3 weeks ago. A little haggling on price and some freebies and then it was clear I had to jump or get trumped. I suspect a call was coming your way too but I pounced very quickly and he then told the other sales guys it was done, sold.
i was busy when he called, didn’t recognise the number and very nearly let the call go to voicemail. I’m sure if I had, by the time I called back it would have been sold. Luck of the draw.
Collect next week

I’ll need to search up PPF recommendations, no doubt been done to death on here so I won’t ask again.
I did hear on the grape vine they were given a directive by PCA to sell the stock they had on the floor and to stop holding things for display purposes.
I wonder about that...'cause each dealer I went into had a GTS on the floor that was not for sale. At PCM it was/is a Python Green GTS that has been on the floor for over 6 months. All were very early batch build cars so it made me wonder if there was maybe some kind of build issue that prevented the dealers from selling.
The GT4 RS just came 5th in EVO mag's Car of the Year. Surprise winner was Maserati MC20. 2nd GR86, =3rd 296 GTB and Artura.
The test was conducted on normal roads only. No track work. They admitted that the result may have been slightly different if a track element was included. Nevertheless, it's an interesting counter opinion.
I have only driven the car on track so would keen to hear from those that have already taken delivery what their impressions are of the car on our local crappy roads.
Not too surprising. A bunch of automotive journalists have been comparing the MC20 to a faster A110, meaning it'd have to be pretty special as a street car.
I think initially there were a number of youtubers who rubbished it (MC20) as they were expecting something track focussed because all the other cars in that price/power range are very hard edged.
I’ve also said to a few people that for a normal street drive I reckon the RS is boring at batshit. My original 981 GT4 is way more entertaining in normal road conditions. It’s a hoot all of the time.
The RS is just a different beast when you’re fully up it and leaves the 981 for dead, but that’s hard to do all that frequently on the roads.
Normal road driving, I had more fun in my ‘86 911. Slow car fast yada yada.
On track, I prefer it over my lotus. Which is impressive as the lotus is a fairly no compromise track car which is also excellent.
And having driven a 992 GT3 I’d say the 4RS is a lot more engaging.
I love the 4RS, but it's definite place is the track! Which is all good with me!
I have always loved crazy fast JDM cars with very stiff suspension since when I was a "kid". This is really no different when comparing driving it on the public roads. It's fun, feels special, but if the road has a lot of bumps, it's not easy to put the foot down as your bouncing around. Probably could find better options to drive on the public roads, so can understand the review.
I really like the PDK gearbox in the 4RS. I am not missing the manual gearbox at all. However the issue on public roads is your always chasing 8000rpm+ for that sweet note, which is not legally possible to do frequently enough. Anyway, due to go back to the track soon!!!
I went on a decent run through the Adelaide hills, Clarendon, Iron Bank, Stirling, Mt Lofty, and then back down Green Hill road. I got a pretty clear run for the time of the day. I think I will take back what I said above, it should have won best road car too. What a car!
wow the noise, sounds amazing, although when I came home I had issues hearing my wife, but she said that was normal, so all good!!
That's an interesting data point given same driver, similar conditions, same tyres. I think when Porsche set the 4RS nurburgring time they did not use their best driver or were holding back a bit so as to not upset the 992.
🤔
Please no GT4/GT4 RS conspiracy theories here! Save them for Rennlist!
The reality is that on smaller tighter circuits, the two cars are really, really close, but on bigger circuits where aero plus rear end stability count, the GT3 is demonstrably faster.
In this particular case, as Steve S said, the tight'ish nature of the Anglesey track (3.3kms) suited the GT4 RS but at Hockenheim (4.5kms), with the same driver (Christian Gebhardt), the 992 GT3 was almost 2secs faster. At the Sachsenring (3.8kms), the GT3 was 1.2 secs faster. So generally, the bigger the circuit, the stronger the advantage the GT3 has.
But as we all know, at the end of the day, how quick any car is over another car, is ultimately determined by the quality of the driver rather than the car.
Here is another interesting datapoint.
This is my friend in Dubai tracking his 3RS and 4RS around Dubai Autrodrome. He is a pretty good driver. Not super fast but still quite quick. He and I did two days together in GT4RSs at Spa earlier this year. Over the last few years we have had very similar car trajectories with GT3s, 3 RSs, and now 4 RSs although he has already taken delivery of his 4RS while I am still waiting for mine.
So at this track, driving his own cars, he is 3.5 sec quicker in the 3RS, admittedly with an Ohlins and a Manthey alignment, than the 4RS...a very good showing by the 4RS.
That is one of the few weak points of the 4RS, the rear end is nowhere near as stable as the 3RS or GT3. You can see this characteristic in almost every video from Jorg Bermeister’s Nordscheife drive to my friend Joe’s drive at Dubai. And this was the case for me during my limited experience with the car at Spa.
Would be interested to get some views on this from the few owner out there that have taken delivery and hit the track.
Doing precision 1,2&3 up at Mt Cotton and Qld raceway was an eye opener for me and a mate- we both have 981’s and came away agreeing the 911 chassis was superior. I think as pointed out above big burly stuff the 911 is the car, tighter stuff the cayman platform wins.
Gentleman Jim did well in a Cayman S pdk at Targa from his 7.2RS I believe - that’s something to go by.
The 992 GT3 on track was amazing- that motor is absolute heaven, the grip wowsers it just felt right.
Being in Tassie recently in the 981 I was grinning ear to ear- I don’t think I would have extracted as much out of the 911 down there in certain spots.
If you’re lucky to have both a 3&4RS I hope you pinch yourself each morning.
That,s a great Video both phenomenal cars and I kinda agree with their verdict , I think the 4RS would be easier to live with and at the end of the day it only falls slightly short of the 3RS .
From my own experience with my 991.2 GT3RS its only at home on the track and the new 992 version is even more hardcore than the previous model , when things get that track focused there is without doubt compromise when it comes to the car on a public road ..
I Dont think any owner would be disappointed with the 4RS and considering only 35 or so are coming down under , I love the fact they are rare and unique
Where’d the 35 number come from? Seems to me there are lots of GT4 RS around already and I’m expecting confirmation any day on an allocation from the “next batch”. In fact I was told again last week when I collected the GTS “don’t worry, you WILL get one”.
Surprised if there will only be 35 in total?
There’d have to be close to 35 already right? How many dealerships are in Oz and most already delivered a couple (PCB had 4).
A mate of mine was told he got his allocation for an April build on Friday.
Yeah there must be - I’ve seen quite a few posted on various FB groups.
Interesting to hear your mate has a build so early in 2023. I spoke to sales guy and sales manager at PCB last Weds and they both looked sheepish and said I’d hear VERY soon. When I mentioned 12m wait they looked at each other and said, no, no, won’t be that long. I was also told yet again I am very close to the top of the PCB list so hopefully I’m not far behind your mate.
Yeh my dealer told me approximately 35 , when they first became available , but I was not aware of a second batch , Have my name on all the lists for both 4 and 3 RS for few years now, but as usual the Sydney dealers find it to hard to contact anyone , I may go down there and see what the go is
👍
I’ve got no track time in the Cayman GT4 platform, always wanted to get some though, and I’m doing just that in a couple of weeks with two days at Portimao in the GT4 Clubsport, looking very forward to it, and I’m curious about this characteristic given my seat time is all in 911 GT3/RS cars
You’ll get the run around. Every time I’ve gone in there I just leave frustrated. No straight answers only lip servIce. Thankfully at this point zero shits given, they either call or they don’t.
Classic supply and demand modelling. I understand about 7000 of these will be built and Australia constitutes around 1.5% of global market. Basic math is around 100 cars, however I recall hearing that we get significant more "special" cars. Fingers crossed.
Yeh 100% I do get the shits there also the Melbourne dealers must be more pro active than the Sydney Dealers all I ever get is emails and phone calls of them trying to sell me a F#cking SUV as an alternative WTF the last thing I want to buy ...........
If it is anything like previous models it will be closer to 200 cars for Australia ~15 cars per dealer on average.
My latest response was "you have no 7 seaters, call me when you make one". Truth is nothing beats a full size van when you've got 4 kids so I'll never buy a seven seat SUV from anyone.
I did some comparison times between my mates 992 GT3 and my GT4RS. Long story short, I was quick in the 992 GT3 off the bat, however I eventually got the GT4RS lap times very closed to the GT3, I was quicker in my 4RS around sandown, but slower than the 992 GT3 around Philip Island. I felt like the 992 GT3 was easy to throw down a fast lap time, and there is surely lots more in my times for a better driver, but I felt like I really had to work for it more in the GT4RS...which is half the fun!
I'd love some information on how one gets to do that! Have you been to Portimoa before? I've been there twice in a caterham - I rate it in my top 3 tracks I've ever driven (along with Spa and Bathurst). It's such a fun track to drive and is the most "you should do a skid here" track I've ever driven. A GT4 would be m ega fun there.
Sorry to take this thread a bit of track.... but I am seriously jealous!
I have been to Portimao a few times, mostly in GT3 RSs although I once spent 2 days there in a Turbo S, and it is by quite a margin, my 2nd favourite track behind Spa. Would absolutely love to do it in a GT4 Clubsport.
It's both fast and technical. Indeed it is has one of the fastest main straights of any track out there that has both a tricky entry (a fast blind down hill right hander) and tricky end (down hill while being hard on the brakes). It also has fantastic elevation changes that you just won't appreciate until you get there. It's a real rollercoaster of a track that takes longer than most to get comfortable with. But huge fun and very rewarding.
I have not been around Portimao in a GT4 Clubsport, but have punted one at Spa and Hockenheimring so I am pretty confident in saying that you will feel none of the rear end looseness you get in the road car due to the slicks, the different springs and dampers and geometry.
Here are a couple of photos that hopefully give you some idea on the elevation changes.
Fortunately a mate of mine has done all the leg work for us, as he is EU based, he sends me a bill I pay it
... but essentially he's connected with a race team who is doing winter testing sessions and offers arrive & drive packages on these days for customers, so we have 2 days back to back where we are sharing the car (splitting the cost) which makes it very reasonable! They also have cup & RSR if you so wish to indulge... happy to share the details and feedback on my return, but he's done a number of these with them and rates them highly! We had the option to get his 996 Cup over, but it is just not worth the hassle for the rates they offer on their arrive & drive deal.
I have not driven it ever, but looking very much forward to it!
It's going to be a proper lads trip, that is for sure mate! We're starting in Spain (where he lives, south of Girona) and running the Balearic coast etc over to Portugal, 360 Challenge Stradale is what we're taking for the road trip... really not sure how much more testosterone we can pack into a trip?
Those pics definitely paint a picture, but I am guessing I just need to wait & see... I do like elevation changes, especially those long sweeping drops where you are 100% committed, equal parts fear & excitement!
Now THAT sounds like a trip
👌
Back on topic, my Porsche Centre Brighton guy literally 20 minutes ago sent me a text confirming May 2023 build, July 2023 delivery for my GT4RS. Yeehah. That’s trump any Xmas present under the tree! First brand new Porsche.
Now to “re-agonise” over colour and spec before it’s locked. Pretty sure I’ll stick with “launch spec” - Arctic grey, blue interior, belts & (steel) cage, blue wheels, black calipers, Weissach pack, Club-sport pack, front axle lift. I like the racer vibe contrast to the sharp suit 992 GTS.
You and me both....I got a call from my rep this evening at 6pm to tell me that I been allocated an April build slot...YooHoo! Now I have to decide a colour??!!
Great to hear about the allocations - thats 3 from PCB alone in the next round so we should see a few more around by mid next year.
Hopefully can get a few of us togeter once they all roll in.
Edgy - be super keen on the info. Aiming to do Ice Force in Feb 2025 for my 50th, but I'd love to also tack on another trip to Portimao. Have been there in Feb before and its a great time of the year - places like Lagos are almost ghost towns and we found the service and friendliness of the locals so much better than when we went during the busier warmer periods. Accomodation etc is dirt cheap at that time as well.
I have CROCRS (Vic) which I purchased but decided to use my old SMAUG plates instead. If anyones interested I'd sell them for the standard plate price.
After having PTS lined up for my incoming GT4 RS, I was informed by my dealer yesterday that PTS for GT4 RSs has been made unavailable for all of 2023. So disappointingly, it's back to choosing a colour from the relatively boring standard colour palate. I have two weeks to decide.
AFAIK, no you can't. I enquired about this couple of years ago and was told that due to some technical, registration and insurance issues related to Australian cars, it was not possible to do an ED....and I don't think the situation has changed. You can collect a UK RHD car though.
If it was available, I would definitely opt for delivery in Zuffenhausen rather than Leipzig. I have been to Leipzig around 8-9 times so I know it well.
The only small benefit of a Leipzig delivery is that you get some brief track time (but on only on the short track) which you do not get at Zuffenhausen because there is no track.
In addition, at Zuffenhausen you get to tour the factory where the 911s and 718s are made vs Leipzig where they only make Macans, Cayennes and Panameras so it's a little bit boring.
Plus the Zuffenhausen museum is probably around 10times the size of the one at Leipzig which really is just a token gesture.
From a travel perspective, Leipzig is way up in the North East corner (it used to part of East Germany) so it's a long way from where most people want to go after delivery.
Bastards, now I can’t unsee it……
@cafe_racer
@Peter John
I’m going with
@Snowman
‘s spare plates CROCRS instead…just don’t tell me you read Croc Arse
😂
the foreskin plates can hang in my garage away from perverts. Or
@hugh
might like them for Xmas next year given it was his idea
😂
in all seriousness, I like CROCRS better anyway
Thought it’d be a regulatory nightmare.
The factory tour Sept 22 was brilliant - we did 911/718 in the morning, showroom in between and Taycan in the arvo. Great day out and cheap, I think 10 euro per tour.
Tbh I typed a similar reply to
@cafe_racer
when you first posted but thought to erase and not be unkind
😆
I like the crocrs one because truth be told I embrace my Croc footwear

Looks like I will be waiting a bit longer for my 4RS to arrive even though it is on one of 9 car carriers doing doughnuts outside port Phillip bay waiting to unload. The 3 car carriers sitting at the dock have not moved for days so it would seem there must be an issue with unloading.
While some people seem to be experiencing production delays, mine has been brought forward almost 1 month! Instead of an April build, it's now March with a dealer ETA of early May.
Looks like the first 'used' 4RS has hit the market.. anyone here?
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2022-porsche-718-cayman-gt4-rs-982-auto-my23/SSE-AD-14305724/?Cr=0
Not illegal at all. Dealers can sell at any price they want - that's the whole purpose of the Consumer Law protections against resale price maintenance (
Advertising and selling guide - Resale price maintenance | ACCC
). The "R" in MSRP stands for 'recommended' for that very reason.
It’s going to be one to watch. I know a 992 GT3 seller who told me straight out the best he could get for his car (sold it almost immediately as found it too hard core vs his prior gt3) was rrp plus $5k. Factoring in stamp duty in nsw meant no profit on his sale at all. Ie. He had no real offers over that.
Yeah but a GT3 ain’t mid engined
🤔
🍿
I can’t help but laugh at recent 992 GTS listings - sure there’s a long wait to get one new but there’s now 4 on Carsales at circa $500k, one 4GTS Targa at $550k and then some guy popped up and listed at $435k
😂
. That’ll upset the 500k union! He must want to actually sell it
🤷♂️
Looking to fill an RS sized hole in your garage
🤔
?
I mocked one up in the config to match the silver car and it’s about 381k on road in WA and 395k on road in Vic. So at 460k plus 9% stamp duty that’d be 501k drive away in Vic so about 100k more as
@WGA
indicated.
intetesting that the silver car appears to not have the $520 sport chrono which is odd. Not clear in the photos whether it has front lift. That adds another $5k to the config.
http://www.porsche-code.com/PPGCU5R5
One of the interior photos (admittedly quite zoomed out) shows it has the front lift button (2nd button down on the right side)
Not that I've been looking too hard at the ad...
In all honestly I don't think the advertised price is all that surprising. It's actually less out there than I expected for the first one on the market.
I've also said I don't think this car will be for everyone (pretty much like all GT Porsche's aren't) - so I do expect to see a few pop up for sale over the next 6 months.
If there was a limited number being made and you couldnt get one I would understand, but from what PCB told be is I could order one today with a quick turn around in delivery vs a 911. So what makes the seller think they can inflate the price by 100K? Did Jake mislead me or is the seller a dreamer.
I guess they’re also targeting customers who were late to get there name down or not on a dealers vip list in terms of purchase history - lots of dealers saying won’t get an allocation at all for those.
Interested to see what it sells for. Don’t think it’s worth that much personally but the market will decide I guess!
I wonder what finance on $350k car is per month. Can’t be trivial amount I assume?
I can’t fathom the hip pocket hit if you pay ‘over’ when the car depreciates…. Say it’s a $350-360k car now and it drops 20% in three years when a new hero car is inevitably released, it’s then a car around $280k in price. Still solid. If however you paid $460k, geez you have taken a proper cash tear up hit haven’t you. Wave good bye to $180k, plus the payments if financed. So much coin just ‘gone’. I guess the seller now gains the value in that scenario.
I sometimes wonder of PCA have told dealerships to tell all prospective buyers that "anyone who orders one will get one" to stop flippers from placing orders. But whether it's going to turn out that way we won't know for a few years yet.
Yeah maybe. Although I suspect different dealers around the country will tell people different things (and within the same dealership will depend if you’re high up on their list or not).
Some have said allocations exhausted and not taking EOIs, others will take the EOI but say the chances are unlikely.
As you say, won’t know until production has ended!
Supposedly they plan on producing 7000 of them. Not sure the truth of that statement, but that is all over Rennlist. Realistically it shouldn't even be a factor in anyone's decision, unfortunately due to the flipper effect, it is.
Volkswagen needs to pump out double the number of BEVs than they did last year due to the EU dropping the 2 for 1 deal on BEV's for the 2023 model year. Not sure how that is going to play out with our fun cars. Production could end up curtailed unless enough of the masses take up BEVs.
Mine is being built in May 23, confirmed in December. At that time, I was told they are happy to take further EoI for a potential further batch of cars. Whether they will get more cars (& more beyond batch 3) seems to be a big unknown. Or else is cloak and dagger to maintain the mystery and FOMO.
Everything points to this being first and last 4RS so I look forward to you all critiquing my listing for $1M in 2025……
😆
. I’ll throw in the CTEK charger at that price.
Ps if I can get one having never bought a thing from PCB and certainly never having bought a new Porsche before and having cancelled and reinstated my EoI, it suggest the supply might be pretty well aligned with demand. I was not expecting it given all the stories of needing an established relationship, needing to commit to buy other P cars, having owned GT cars beforehand etc. I assume that applies to 992 GT3 RS but seemingly 4RS is much simpler to get. If anyone genuinely wants a 4RS, I suggest you speak to the dealer and see what happens. Hen weight up he maybe 12m wait with paying $100k over list….
Someone a long way down the list just got the call up. I think it is definitely demand side causing this. There is no way the particular dealer has delivered 25+ cars, its more likely that money isn't free, so all the people who really couldn't afford to own one now have to pull out.
Will be interesting times if the GT3 RS lobs with a ~$600-650k list price, suddenly the unobtainable may well just be a phone call away.
What in your opinion is a "long way down the list"?
Agreed that further economic stress may put pressure on demand but the dealers are still playing the exclusivity based on purchase history card.
Which dealer? I put a mate onto my guy at Brighton and he was happy to add him to the EoI list no strings attached, he has no history at all, like me.
Whether that translates to a build will depend on his position on said list and how many more cars they get and, as noted above, how many above him are able to commit when the call up comes.
Yeah I'm not convinced he ticked the right belts color box on that build. lol
Otherwise I reckon that's a pretty nice looking build spec. Still really wish those mag wheels weren't such drug money!
Called into PCB today, sales guy reckons Porsche are firing up a new factory (not at Zuffenhausen) in July and they will carve off 718 production to the new facility. Was always the plan to run separate 911 & 718 production lines but they parked it when covid hit expecting sales to be impacted but sales remained strong and they’ve had to constrain production of some models, too congested.
The new factory will allow them to ramp up 718 production and free up capacity at Zuffenhausen for 911 too presumably (RS? Spyder? Dakar?). Porsche will build GT4RS right through 2023 & 24 in the new facility. I pressed him again about future supply, “we don’t know, porsche don’t tell us anything, we only know when we get allocated cars, not prior”. They are still taking EoI. He said they have a batch of cars locked for first half. I briefly saw a list with 7 names including mine all with build allocations locked for April and May so I trust that’s “batch 2” through PCB. He said they might get more second half 2023.
it was great to see a 4RS in almost my exact spec. Clubsport but no cage, not available when built. Anyone here?
Looks nice although I do prefer the design of the standard wheels. Pity about the roll cage not being available. Will it be retrofitted by the dealer I wonder?
And annoyingly, I notice the car has the license plates I wanted to match with my Touring! Had to settle for PRSGT4 instead. If the owner is on here, ping me if you would like to sell the plates!
Correct. You can tick the no cost Clubsport option giving you cage and extinguisher. The Weissach option gives you a titanium cage which you can deselect, reduce the cost and tick the no cost Clubsport option giving you a standard cage.
I was offered the shark blue 4RS at PCB for 425k in December. Weissach but no cage. I asked whether they’d retrofit a cage when it became available (given it’s a no cost option), response was they could provide a cage but it’d probably cost $9k. Umm, no thanks. A bit rude I thought, especially when they’re asking 25-30k over list to begin with
Fabspeed ran GT4, GT4 RS and 992 GT3 on the same dyno to compare…….seems like the marketing department at Porsche might have been charged with coming up with a script to keep the perceived pecking order…..every journo pedals the line “ longer exhaust means 10hp less”, but it actually delivers 4hp MORE……457hp at the wheels would be over 500 at the crank.
Anyone planning to modify the exhaust? I was at PI for a squiz yesterday and they are very quiet from outside which suits me just fine. Fabspeed so far have developed OAP which gives +30hp at the wheels mid range and +18hp at max power and a slug of extra torque. I think Dundon also have a car they’re working on.
Two things…
1) that car in WA is still for sale. I’m still a bit shocked it hasn’t sold at that price. Yes, prices are easing (992 gt3 were trading for 600k+ and now 590k offered with no bid). But even if 992 gt3 are changing hands at mid 500k, that’s still 20%+ on rrp…which is why I’m shocked the gt4rs is struggling to get +20% on rrp for the first one on the market. There is 100 GT4RS in the country at best. Yes, i hear you that it’s not limited production but the impatience tax people talk about for one of the best cars in recent years doesn’t seem to be there (unfortunately). Slow going on the gentian blue one in the US too by the looks on BaT.
2) does anyone have agreed value for their insurance on the 4RS? My insurer (Dawes via Porsche) refused to increase above purchase price (which might be the right response considering point 1 above) but is willing to review after 6 months.
MB same- they wanted to sight the Porsche invoice and will only insure at that price. So if it is a writeoff they will just pay cash out on the "new for old" policy is what I was verbally told.
I believe second batch of cars has already landed in Perth, Mel, Syd and lastly Bne in the past 2-3 weeks.
I don't think flipped GT4 RSs are going to fly off the shelves very fast or, indeed, the high demand for new ones to last very long. Largely because I think this car suffers from a degree of "familiarity". The 718 has been around for a very long time so the 4RS doesn't offer anything very different visually. Also, from a hp/performance perspective, its really doesn't offer anything different to all the 991/992 GT3s out there. So its all kind of "familiar".
I have driven one extensively, and ordered one, but strangely, while I am looking forward to it arriving, I am not very excited about it. I was far more excited about taking delivery of my previous GT cars than I am this one. So it will be interesting to see how the market demand and pricing evolves for the 4RS but I suspect its not going to be as high as most expect.
I agree. Plus the new
hero must have car
for all those that are silly enough to pay over market (of which there now seems basically none) is the pending 992 gt3rs.
I mentioned on another forum page that for his brand new 992 gt3, a mate who didn’t like it (too hard core) sold his immediately on taking delivery and going for a drive. Best
real offer
he got was $5k over rrp, and that’s less than the drive-away price was…..
So, re GT4RS, maybe just drive and enjoy.
Currently sat in the airport awaiting my flight home, and oh my… I do not regret this trip! That track is now firmly etched into my brain, what a circuit!
Our car was a GT4 Clubsport MR and what a thing it is! I would say, the extra 100hp ~ the GT4 RS gets is going to be most welcomed, and I cannot see why you won’t be giving the big boys a hard time on smaller tracks… we certainly had fun harassing some, but straights are no match for HP, I will make a seperate post in due course to keep this on topic… happy to exchange some details too
@Snowman
Yeah that's cool - really does under pin what a couple of us who have these early thoughts have been.
These cars really don't have any significant aero advantages over the old GT4's (if any at all). Both Mark and I were effectively getting the same mid corner speeds at T1
@
PI between this new car and our old 981's.
And the power gains were less noticable say down the straight at PI where the entry speeds were alreay +170km/hr.
Where the real gains are is coming out of the slow / mid speed corners over the old ones. I was seeing +15km/hr VMax between T2 and T4 @ PI between the 2 cars. So I think these cars will show significant lap time gains at places like Sandown and Winton compared to PI.
Also really interesting to see just how much quicker mid corner that MR car is despite being on "lesser" tyres. Be interesting to watch the MR suspension development for the 4RS. Probably more exciting than some of these exhaust options that will flood the market soon.
yeah that’s a good ‘un.
I was surprised how much faster the 992 GT3s were lapping PI compared to 4RS on the weekend. GT3s as low as 1:38 (extraordinary) vs 1:44 for the best of the GT4RS. I don’t imagine there’d be 6s between them if like for like drivers, tyres etc?
Anyway, I doubt I’ll ever lap the 4RS as fast as my old Mazda track hack (1:42)
🤷♂️
But I’m looking forward to trying
😂

I find these comparisons hard to accurately discover the difference between two cars- should really be the same driver. I’ve not driven a 4rs but have a 992 gt3 and a gts4.0 cayman - the track width and tyre width and rear engine rotation does add up in my limited experience and or driver skill.
The top gear video sums it up with with the 4rs not hanging on as well- of course that was against the 3RS which isn’t super fair to compare.
The PCD Manthey 981 gt4 road car did 1:44 Saturday - put one of those two drivers in a 4rs and let’s see what they do. And of course in a 992 gt3.
I’ve lapped PI and sandown in both a 992 GT3 and my RS.
long story short, faster at PI in the 992 GT3 off the bat. Eventually got the 4RS time down to the GT3 time 1:42.9 (took me two different track days)
Sandown. Identical times in both (I just checked, actually slightly slower in the gt3) . Both cars had cup2’s 1:16

Here's a nice little video of the OEM exhaust breakdown for anyone that's interested
Does anyone know whether Australia follows the US or the European requirements as far as the particulate filters go?
Edit: Apparently we follow the US version becasue we have the same fuel issues with particulate filters that they have.
992 GT3 front suspension is truly incredible. The ability to turn in
extremely fast
is next level vs anything I’ve driven.
The challenge with that is just ‘boy you are really going’ on turn in and it takes major commitment. I did find the turn in limit on one corner and geez you then have to be on you game to not go off. Carries a bit more risk with that speed than other gt3 gt4 as a result.
I don’t know how pro drivers find gt4rs laps vs 992 ? I suspect it’s more a car that holds it own vs 991.2 generation? Not sure.
Anyone else’s got thoughts?
718 Spyder & GT4 have particulate Filters and wouldn't be surprised if the 4RS has it as well.
I did ask on RL quite some time ago and those in the know said 4RS does have them for Oz unfortunately.
If the sensors to manage a PF are not installed then there is no PF. The housings looking the same will be due to cost savings as doing another OAP would incur engineering and tooling costs. Simpler to just leave the PF out and not install the required sensors to manage it. The 718GT4 does not have a PF and I will know next week for sure but I expect the 4RS will not have one either. They are not required in order to pass ADR in Aus.

Finally got mine back from getting the PPF and ceramic coating done. Looking forwards to finally getting out for a decent drive in it this weekend. It’s been the longest foreplay ever lol
Love your spec
@Snowman
its mega!
Just noticed on the entry list for PCNSW supersprint this weekend, one GT4 RS ... shall be interesting as it is a small track (Pheasantwood) so not so much aero advantage for the 2/3 RS cars.
I saw that too, but really looking forward to seeing the 4RS moving around as Pheasentwood is a good spectator track. I thought Warwick would have his there but maybe not?
+1 and not being in the run group should give us that opportunity! I see Warwicks capacity denoted as 4200... wonder if he got the De Man treatment like Charlie's?
I'm not sure on the hp but I've had him pass me at SMSP before and it does seem to have a lot more pace, unlike stock GT4, so I'm thinking close to 500hp maybe? I know DeMan has a 4.5l 560hp conversion!
BTW there were two 4RSs at practice at Pheasant Wood Cct on Fri, Barry's red one and Mark's GT Silver. I had a ride in Mark's and definitely can see what everyone raves about. Felt very fast and very well planted and sound in the cabin with the mid engine and quareter panel window intakes is sensational but very loud. I notice Mark was wearing ear plugs even under the helmet!
Saturday supersprint there was one black one which I think I got some good in-car footage (following) which I can post later if anyone is interested. Very cool looking and sounding cars.
Edit: Just for comparison, my friend had his 992 GT3 there and he complains he can't hear the engine enough on the inside but I'm sure a new exhaust will fix that.

For people curious about local lap times - Mark ran at Bathurst earlier in the week.
2,20.2 was his time (Trofeo R's). No problems going flat through the kink at +270km/hr either!
328772159_5643374022458710_1713543944164211678_n.mp4
2,20 is a solid time for Bathurst. Any details on ther driver Mark?
FYI the 4RS posted a 57.66 at Pheasant Wood on the weekend but hard course to master and probably a second or two in it with the right driver/practice. As a reference experienced driver in a GT2 RS posted 53.73 and 3RS a 55.56 on Cup 2R, and 991.2 GT3 a 55.86.
Interesting breakdown of the standard GT4 RS exhaust system.
Surprisingly, the complete back box/muffler assembly is exactly the same as the GTS 4.0 and the regular GT4!
On track, May build, July delivery as promised.
There are a few stories on the 4RS Owner FB group complaining of production starting and then being parked awaiting parts leading to a couple of months’ delay. That factory is a well oiled machine, I would have thought they wouldn’t start production until confirmation they have all the bits. Must create havoc having part complete cars sitting around. Maybe a short term hiccup.
^ You’ve done better than me on gifts. I copped a similar box which had a USB cable (USB-A not USB-C as in the 992 console) and magnetic phone mount (which doesn’t work with a phone case
🤷♂️
)
Haha pretty much. When I got the call to say the 4RS and 992 GTS on the PCB floor were for immediate sale, we had a short negotiation, a few calls back and forth, a bit of brinkmanship and i was ultimately happy with the price and a few freebies and did the deal.
But yes, not a lot of power in a negotiation where you know if you don’t grab it, someone else will. I guess I paid a price with freebies that any other buyer would have achieved. There is a little bit of wriggle room because the sales guy who called me wanted to sell me the car before the guy sitting beside him sold it to someone else. So he went in to bat for me to get a deal done that benefits him as well as me.
It will be well oiled but the occasional unplanned issue with supply can crop up.
I remember when my mate was building a new vehicle for Dakar using a brand new model of the Isuzu D Max. He needed a door and bonnet cos he'd screwed his somehow. Isuzu shipped him a complete car as it was easier on their process ie they knew they needed N doors for N/2 cars, so to pull one door meant they'd be short and that would screw up their production process and possibly affect thousands of vehicles upstream.
They all run very tight stock levels.
Same thing with warranty etc. You could need a thingamajig for your car and the dealer will tell you it's a 4 week wait even though they have 5 cars all with the part you need on the floor waiting to be sold .... They'll not compromise any of those cars even though you might not be able to use your car.
When I did the factory tour, they spoke a lot on out their JIT ordering, barcode scanning of specific tailored parts, well orchestrated supply chain all coming together a day or so before the build commences.
good spiel! It seems odd that they’d send a shell down the line knowing they can’t complete it.
The same thing has happened with my Emira. They haven't admitted as much but the build started in October. I'm supposed to take delivery next month.
Must have been a very slow boat.
My GT4RS was on a very slow boat. Built September and arrived Melbourne end January. Spent nearly two months sitting on the wharf waiting for a ship. When it arrived Melbourne there were 12 car carriers all doing circles outside the heads waiting to unload. Mine had to wait 10 days to get to the dock.
Last year, my GT3 Touring was completed April 2 and shipped only a couple of days later. Arrived into Melb May 27 so only 8 weeks. Hope my 4 RS has a similarly speedy delivery.
I still have work to do, but this is the best I could muster at Mallala yesterday. It was 35 degrees so it was a very hot day! First proper outing with the car with a track alignment. It seemed very comfortable except for turn 1. The Bend next month!
Excellent seeing Mallala again, but the Bend should be better suited to the RS, yes? Pretty sure the new (lighter) battery shaved at least 1 second off your lap time
😁
Very cool, great driving! I haven’t used the Porsche app that much. I assume the wheel with the arrow following it from from 12-3 is lit when t/c interferes. If so it was on for nearly 10 seconds when you had it pinned!
Yes I believe that is the traction control coming on. I don’t see it on that often in the above video. That is the first time I have used the app. I normally use trackaddict. However I found the Porsche app very easy to use & setup and enough data for me right now. I think I’ll just stick with the Porsche one for ease of use.
So much for no delays!
Car exited the production line on Feb 21st and then went into Custom Tailoring for supposedly one day....but....it's now not scheduled to exit Custom Tailoring until March 10th!
And what's my custom tailoring option you ask...a leather key pouch!
A three week delay for a leather key pouch!
Finally broke the 2;04 at the International circuit.
Not a perfect lap by any means, but the sound of the car is worth sharing on a circuit where you can really whine it out!
https://youtu.be/2mULCM9Wye4
It’s a great two days, worth the effort. It’s also quite an amazing setup they have there with the Rydges accommodation onsite which makes it really convenient.
I haven’t been to the bend yet. It’s on the list. I know having the hotel right next to Bathurst was great for a quick shower at lunch!
how are you finding the car after some setup changes? Played around with tyres or anything else much at all?
Definitely feeling a lot more confident, however still need more time in the seat. I felt quite invincible in the gt4 after tracking it for 6 years. The 4rs will take me some more laps to understand the car more. I need to attack the apex more in the above video and get better at trail braking.
I probably have 2 days left with the oem tyres and then will put on AO52’s. Suspect that will give me another second.
i will also look at dialing the camber out more in the future.
I won’t be making to many other changes currently. Certainly not looking to mod the car excluding improving the camber.
how are you finding it Chris?
So you fixed the handbrake then?
👍
😉
Nice lap there Shane
👍
Just a noob question. Is the howling from the tyres too much pressure, or is that just on the limit of grip with older tyres?
I notice from the online photos of my car on the production line that my car has been fitted with Dunlop Sport Maxi Race 2 tyres. I am quite happy about this as I had them on my 991.2 GT3 Touring and they performed very well. I am however curious to find out what tyres were fitted to the other 4RS that have already been delivered in OZ. Cup2s or Dunlop Race2s?
Think a mate has these on his just picked up Touring as well. I had thought the Touring was supplied with P Zeros, so I'm happy for him that he has the Dunlops
My 991.2 GT3 Touring was delivered with Race2s.
My 991.2 GT3 RS was delivered with CUP2s
My 992 GT3 Touring was delivered with CUP2s.
And now my 4RS is coming with Races2s.
So it's a bit of lottery as to what you get.
Fun day punting the GTS around PI. Had a 4RS in my group which happened to be “my” spec Arctic Grey with blue wheels and Weissach. It was good to watch it dance. Unfortunately I only entered the event yesterday so didn’t get a mount organised for my phone so no video
👎🏻
.
Three 4RS on track including
@cafe_racer
, good to meet you Chris.
@DJM
Did it have SA plates '4RS'?
If so, that's the car I saw here in Adelaide last week. Can't upload the pics for some reason
👍
Direct link seems to work

Might be another topic somewhere, so apologies if there is.
for those that have tracked their 4RS hard, have you had the standard suspension/wing setup etc tweaked and if so what? Getting mine setup next week.
I did a combo of the suspension secrets uk and manthey setups (happy to share details with you PF29).
With that said I was coming here to ask others advice as I had a set of cup 2's chunk out after 92 laps of Philip Island (over 3 days). Tread coming off on the outside shoulder of the front right, I am at the limit of adjustment with stock parts...So maybe time to get some clubsport or aftermarket parts on there? Or maybe I am expecting too much from a set of Cup 2's?
I am running them 32psi hot on all corners.
A number of tyre manufacturers have set minimum tyre pressures for racing at PI due the the high speed continuous loading generating higher temperatures. Sounds like overheating and a bit more pressure could help.
I was certain I wouldn’t bother with exhaust mods because I’m more interested in how it sounds inside for me than outside for others. But that sounds pretty good. Probably a sure fire way to get booted off track so someone else needs to try it first
😂
A few happy snaps from Monday. 3 x 4RS and a couple of cool old school touring cars and their rig (genuine ATCC winning 635
👌
)
Tomas Mezera says do placard pressure hot- not sure what the 4rs is but the 981 gt4 is 29/33. I’m running 28/29 on a050 and feel temp is right but still playing around with geo and need to get better with pyrometer checking and accurate at that.
I ended up with clubsport toe links that you can have if you want- it was a 4 month wait for them so I ended up getting TPC after thinking I’d never actually get the order via motorsport in Germany - they arrived the day I fitted the TPC ones.
Tarrett strut tops up front will give you -2.5 before any shimmies. You can get clubsport tops but after waiting so long for the toe links you may order today and get by Xmas.
Well Mezera knows what’s up, so I’ll give the placard pressures a go. I may have been running the fronts too hot as placard is 30f 34r.
thanks for the advice, don’t know where I got 32fr in my head from.
@DJM
im game for some exhaust mods. Just need to work out about OPF and engine lights on the Australian cars. I’d check but really don’t know what I’d be looking for.
Phillip Island also destroys tyres more than any other track in Oz. I used to race in a series that originated in Tassie called Sports GT which was effectively a street car based series run on R Comps and eventually they had to ban that series from PI because everyone kept blowing RH tyres after 6-10 laps. You really need to avoid long multiple lap session - or else have a couple of low G laps from Lukies to T12 to let them cool down.
I did do a 40min session with only a couple of cool down laps in there. Sounds like I probably just expected too much from the tyres
🤦🏻
my bad! As the previous set did 5ish track days.
I do know that the OPF is not monitored on the 992GT3 in the US and AUS spec engines.
there are a number of people removing the OPF filters which sit behind the Cat outward flow.
Apparently it’s a very thick ceramic product after removing they comment about a more higher pitched tone even with the standard rear muffler. Performance wise I’m unsure negative or positive.
Finally after 4 months I got out for decent run in mine. Took it down to Tassie, did some Targa roads and both Symmons and Baskerville.
Must say I now totally love it. Was a perfect car to take on a trip like that.
Here's a quick video from Symmon's - for two reasons.
1. I need to adjust the angle a bit in the future to show this better - but I drive this car using the shifter as a sequential the whole time. It's definitely not the fastest way because you can see this requires me to short shift the car a few time - BUT it's definitely the most fun way for me. I do not miss the 3rd pedal but I feel just as engaged as I do in my 981 GT4 driving like this - it's a blast.
2. Hows the noise!!!
59.9 is pretty quick around there, but I reckon there's more to be had given some of your lines - next time
🙂
Fastest reference lap would have been a couple of weeks ago at 57.9 I think it was, by a 997 Cup Car during Race Tasmania. Always go into the hump full noise, quick dab just before the hump, lift off then brake hard going into the corner. You should have plenty of downforce to keep you grounded through the sweeper
🙂
I'd get close to 190 or so in my 6.1 GT3 down the straight, you are heaps faster
(and so you should be)
🙂
I think I got down to a 7 or 8 in the GT3, but the ole 6.1 Carrera 2 will only get to 15's (my balls aren't big enough......). Always found Porsche brakes to be awesome at Symmons, I'd always seem to able to go heaps deeper than other cars before braking, < 100m at both the hairpin and end of main straight.
Sound is mesmerising, awesome!!!
🙂
Next time you come, yell out if you want some more cars. We have quite a good little GT group here, most of whom who have some flexibility to come out and play at reasonably short notice.....
Yeah that was my first time at Symmon’s and more or less my first full noise track day in the car so definitely wasn’t at 100%. Still getting comfortable with how the car behaves over bumps - and both of your Tassie tracks are not short of bumps! But pretty sure I’d have dropped into the 58’s just letting Franz shift the car itself in PDK Sports without doing anything different.
Did an almost identical time at Baskerville (59.21) - and I know its a sacrilege thing to say but I personally preferred Symmon’s over Baskerville - mostly because there was almost no gear changes and I didn’t get to play with my shift knob lol
We actually only had 12 cars so ran open pit both days - was great to get down and try some new tracks out.
The guy who ran the event (local Melbourne company called Evolve) next plans to organise a NZ trip with cars being shipped over so hopefully that goes ahead as well.
Nah, not sacrilege to a northerner
😉
. I prefer Symmons too, I guess it is my "home" track. It might seem a simple layout, but it's still pretty hard to get consistently right
Hey
@cafe_racer
I’d love to hear more about your suspension setup. I’m at Sandown for my first track day in the 4 RS and after that I’ll be looking to make some changes.
Symmons is definitely a deceptively tricky track. You never want to push the limit on the sweeper because you know you are going really fast if things go pear shaped. The hump is a difficult one to get the most out of as well.
Baskerville is great fun though. Small and not intimidating.
So I spoke with John Gaydos (really nice guy) from Soul in the US about a new exhaust. He said they didn’t know if it was monitored or not so sent me this video so that I could check.
someone else in AU must have been doing the same thing as he then confirmed our exhausts are monitored at the OAP. So seems any messing around down there will require an ECU flash as well.
im on the fence about it. A new OAP I would have been ok with. But messing around with the ECU doesn’t sit well with me just yet.
I just checked out my 4RS and it has two pressure pipes for the differential pressure sensor to measure the pressure drop across the OPF. It also has a temperature sensor (RTD or Thermocouple) before the OPF section to measure the exhaust temperature going into the OPF to ensure it is hot enough when doing a burn off cycle. (This sensor is in addition to the rear lambda sensor)
certainly seems the AU ones are monitored. Unlike the GT4 which is not monitored.
Next question would be is there actually an OPF element in the canister. I will stick my camera in one of the pressure pipe holes and have a look when I get it on a hoist.
Could be interesting if there is no OPF but it is monitored. Might leave some room for sport cats to not trigger a warning. Either way, thanks for checking!
I know I have said this before, but obviously the inside is the theatre, however the outside still sounds good. Personally I prefer it after running the race exhaust for a few years. Also quite enjoy NOT cleaning exhaust soot after every drive!
Interesting but bad comparison given the McLaren is presumably on road tyres which is why it is so fast in the wet, and the 4RS on Cup 2s. So always a shame when journos miss the obvious factors, although he does highlight the limitation of the Cup 2s in the wet, but not the street tyres in the dry. Bit hard for the 4RS to compete with a 650hp turbo charged McLaren and I'd say the McLaren would have been a second or so faster had it been also fitted with Cup 2s so probably similar performance.
I tried the Dunlop Sport Max Race 2 tyres (or named something similar) and found them to be pretty good. Did a PB at Sandown and wear seems better than the cup 2’s. will head to PI and report back on them.
I saw the nankang ar-1 should fit the GT4RS. Might try them next.
Car goes in for a setup and alignment adjustment this week, which might help with the tyre wear.
I also drove a cayman clubsport. I think I need one
🤤
It is seriously the best club level car you could ask for, although I wouldn't say no to an extra 100HP... the 4 RS Clubsport ought to be a bag of fun!
Down to 1:15.9 now. Part of me wants to pop some Hoosiers on to go faster. But really aside from some pee pee measuring there’s not much point…With that said I do like some pee pee measuring on the right day, so may try them.
Anyone tested the configurator lately?
Changed a lot since I ordered. Ruby star now available at 6k option alongside artic grey etc.
but the price rises…let’s just say they’re making the most of the demand. My car (re-ordered now) is an extra 30k.
My order is due to lock in 2 weeks, dealer says should be at MY23 price but I’m getting more concerned as I read these posts…... They bloody know for most of us it’ll be YOLO
🤷♂️
I haven’t read anywhere that spec is changing for MY24.
So yours actually got PDLS+? Some guys in FB groups are saying it can’t be done on 4RS. It is definitely listed in the spec sheet for my MY23 car
🤷♂️
Not critical of course but the auto high beam is handy in my 911. Not as good as matrix LED in my 2018 X5 though.
Not sure - but you can't option Carerra White anymore without PTS. (Can still get the base white however)
I redid the configurator on my car and its now $56K more expensive than what I paid for the same build.
Be interesting to see if some people decide to remove themselves from the waitlist with the my24 price rise - combination of may no longer be within budget or people may feel it’s value is no longer worth the asking price (which will be very subjective). As some have said, it’s now up approx $40k since first announced.
Yikes, just reconfigured my car and the price has gone from $407K to $430K! Mine is on the water in transit to OZ so hoping I have escaped the price rise.
Yep, mine came with pdls+, although it’s more of a hinderance than anything. A windscreen banner covers the camera and gives a bunch of warning lights. And the functionality of auto dip, isn’t handy to me. People on rennlist seem to be losing their minds over not being able to get it though, so maybe I am missing something!
Or a gt4 clubsport and an air cooled! Having driven a 4RS and 997 gt3 on track the 997 gt3 comes off as pretty slow and boring in comparison. But a purpose built race car is more fun than a 4RS in my view. Just depends if you can be asses fucking around with trailers etc.
A cheaper version is kart racing if you want the same or higher level of adrenaline, pure driving, with far less expense. It is obviously a lot less safe though
100% shifting a lever and kicking a clutch does slow you down somewhat and if a 997 doesn’t have cup gearing it may as well be a Carrera S. The gt4 cs makes a lot of sense- a whole lot of it. You have to wonder what a 4RS CS is like compared to the 718CS?
@Peter John
I'd imagine somewhere around 991.1 cup car pace at a guess. 981CS is slower than a 996 cup, 718 is supposedly a big step ahead. Sorry I couldn't help but bring 911s into your guys' weird mid engine discussion.
Currently in Stuttgart and did the Porsche factory tour yesterday was fortunate to see a GT4 RS going down the line and a 992 GT3 RS .
Also saw a new 992 cup car getting its dash race seat and other interior parts fitted in a space next to the line
I locked in my GT4 RS order today, (formally locks 18/4 according to My Porsche app). it is due to be built 9 May, here by July/August.
I
asked (yet again) and the dealer confirmed (yet again), in his words "It
will
be MY23 pricing".......that's my emphasis added to
will
😄
I’d have to go a 718 clubsport, from what I can gather the 981 would be slower than my 4RS. And having done it before, (unless it’s vintage) slower always makes my willy feel smaller.
Thanks. It’s essentially the launch spec which means there’s a lot in that colour scheme. But I scouted around several in Europe and it was my favourite. And I wanted an RS specific colour without the cost of PTS. The “GT4RS Owners Worldwide” Facebook group are tracking spec. Arctic Grey and blue wheels are most common. Heaps of guys with PTS and other exotic options.
Of the 201 car details they have logged, 18% Arctic Grey, 11% Gt Silver are top 2 then white, shark blue, racing yellow and guards red.
25% had blue wheels followed by 22% with black.
most have Weissach with majority grey interior then blue. So my car is a dime a dozen
😂
. Lucky I don’t do cars and coffee, imagine showing up in identical cars
😬
If you really have cash to burn, try gulf blue, cognac leather, pepita inserts
🤑
🤑
. That’ll be 1 of 1 no doubt.
Haha yes, to me looks a bit odd with “racer” look racetex upper dash and then all gentlemanly leather and checks below. Each to their own.
he’ll need a racetex beret and cognac gloves and loafers with pepita detail
😂
here’s a link to the data if anyone is interested. Only 11 Aussies responded.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yhdZfO5WfFWy_hU4ivYaPjagtPf9qQvO6wtsOoE4qNs/htmlview
Some of the specs that show up on rennlist are next level. Got to have the Dealer Principal on speed dial.
Normally GT cars are predominately white or silver, so its always fun to see something a bit different - even if the majority globally are your spec, I bet it remains atypical here. Aussies are a fairly conservative bunch, especially those with $400k to burn on a toy.
Is that Neo? Did it look somewhat milky? A few people who've seen it in the flesh feel it doesn't pop like the original ruby star does.
Still wildly bright however you look at it.
Pretty certain it was Ruby Star my phone is not the best when it comes to capturing a true colour representation . 3rd 4RS I have seen in 3 days one white on the production line and a Yellow one driving around the plant slow all taped up in protection film being move , I Dont have photos of the other two because not camera,s allowing in side the factory gates .
Sounds like he needs a back cushion and some $2 Bunnings earplugs….and a wheel alignment. Last time he said it was awesome as did everyone else. That’s now old boring news and he could be accused of being a sheep - no doubt he’ll get some clicks with this new version
🤷♂️
I look forward to seeing which version of his story I subscribe to.
So essentially, a car designed to be a track car isn't that comfortable or suitable for the road but is great when it's on track? Am I missing something?
Can I fit a pram in it?
Nailed it. I was passenger around a private road course in one recently. Way too loud for regular road use and stupendous grip levels - way higher than anything useful on a public road. I got out underwhelmed - but I’m not the target buyer.
He’s only saying what plenty of others have said before him. I’ll hesitate a guess that the new GT3RS is even more wildly uncomfortable on B-roads than the GT4RS is. Not going to slow the demand any so it really makes no difference.
These cars by definition are occasional use, anyone who says otherwise is looking to sell you something.
I grew up with home made billycarts and graduated to Datsuns with King springs shortened 100mm with angle grinder and 50mm dia sway bars. Perfect for shaking your teeth out. Webers and no mufflers.
I reckon I’m the perfect buyer for 4RS
😂
Just went back to his original YouTube video “best car I’ve ever driven”. That’s a massive climb dowN. Perhaps I should sue, ordered a car on his say so and it’s a dud
😂
I reckon you’re right! I’ve realised that I’m all about big comfy sidewalls.
Recently bought a ‘13 Cayenne GTS for kids/dog/towing etc. and can’t believe how bad the ride is on the 22’s
Could you even spec 22s back then? Are they aftermarket?
I speced my '22 GTS with 22s and the ride is terrific. Its amazing how far suspension tuning and tyre technology has advanced in 10 years.
No, they weren't
2013 would make it a 958.1 Gen and 22 inch rims were not available as a Factory option. We have a 958.2 (2015-2018) and 21's were the largest, which we have. They're very firm when suspension is set to Sport, but rather comfy otherwise.
I think the MS cars have always threaded the road track balance carefully. Maybe they've gone too far this time? GT4RS Cup with plates?
I have spent a lot of time recently, across a few different platforms, working on compliant and controlled set ups. I'm sure they're slightly slower on track but they are much more drivable on the road where it's a big mistake having a very stiff set up as you have to slow down or it gets dangerous and plain unenjoyable. And I don't mind a second or two loss at the track.
IMHO if its sold with plates it should be enjoable for road use.
Sutcliffe is well regarded and has been around a long time. He sets his reasons out clearly enough and I think it's refreshing to see someone saying they (in their own opinion) got it partly wrong. It's also specific about UK roads being poor quality, but Australian roads are crap too so I see that as being quite relevant to AU buyers,
Disclaimer: I'm 52.
Every time I go to the Phillip Island track I go for coffee from the same joint in town. And every time I end up spilling half of the thing driving to the track as I keep forgetting how stiff the ride is. So long story short, it’s not great for latte sipping and driving. With that said all is soon forgotten once I get to the track.
The car flows loads better at 100kmh on a Sunday morning drive than it does at 60kmh on same roads. Speed limit is 80kmh but sometimes there is the slow moving horse float.
At 20kmh over the limit the car's rebound just seems to work a lot lot better. Even the Mrs who always follows the speed limit was surprised and agreed at my reasoning for going a little over.
$500k is a reasonable price , but yeh it shits me that those who would drive the car can,nt get an allocation , but this dipshit who has done 109 klm on the car can get one to sell
It happened plenty during covid. Which is why demand is so strong. Lots of people are buying these cars to make a quick buck, not because they have any interest in driving them.
At least this one may have been specified decently by the sounds. Usually they've got a grab bag of cheap options to keep the price as low as possible without being a stripper.
Guess you never know what may have happened with the persons circumstances. Either way they probably aren’t getting a new GT allocation again. And yeah the price seems a bit bold. I’ve got 8,000k’s on mine and plan to do lots more.
Define “lots” and where’s the evidence. I think I’ve seen only 3 for sale here since deliveries began last year. That’s not “lots” in my book.
When mine arrives, I hope I’ll love it and keep it but if our arranged marriage doesn’t gel (or maybe the blue wheels make me feel embarrassed
😂
) then, guess what, I might sell it
🤷♂️
. Why should anyone else care?
I was referring to any ‘limited’ by supply car that Porsche makes, not the GT4 RS specifically. If anything I think the GT4 RS has had a higher proportion of enthusiasts and people who will drive it than any car since the original GT4.
The 992 GT3 on the other hand…
Interesting, 11 x 992 GT3 on market from $530k to $640k and the 2 lowest are Porsche dealer approved cars at $530k & $540k. Hard to imagine anyone buying from other dealers or privately for substantially more than a Porsche Approved car so that’s probably as good an indication as any of true market value.
I reckon because the gt3’s have hit 18 months since coming out. From my understanding means you can sell it without the dealer getting angry. And maybe people have an RS on the way….or maybe more greedy flippers buy gt3’s
😂
The sad thing is that it stops new buyers like me (never owned a Porsche) from bothering. I got a contract on a GT4 RS from the local dealer to review. There was not one follow up call from them. I would have happily paid the deposit to get the ball rolling.
I feel like the situation is such an insiders club that it’s made me not want to bother.
It’s entirely an insiders thing. But it kinda has to be that way as they can’t make them fast enough so they sell those those who are mates or who will likely line their pockets again and again. It’s what we’d all do. A good recession will sort that out but careful what you wish for! I’m a sorta fringe dwelling insider and I can’t be bothered TBH.
I think the term is "enthusiasts" who get the RS cars.
You got to show your face at the dealership, open days, etc etc.... Think of it as the dealer doing you a favour rather than you just having the cash ready to drop on a toy.
At one dealer in Sydney that is not the case at all. Another simply doesn’t have the time of day for anyone due to extreme demand. I get that in other states this might be different, however here it certainly doesn’t work that way.
I don’t think it complex. They are selling to people who buy their broader range, and those customers get the pick of the specials. Ie buy your macan and cayenne run arounds, trade them, maybe grab the 911 for weekends and voila you get the RS offers etc.
I’m not that guy at present as I love some broader garage diversity. M, mini, amg etc. That’s ok, I accept they sell to their best customers.
My experience is the complete opposite. Never had a relationship with the dealer, never bought a car from them before new or used, in fact never had a new Porsche before. I had my name and 2.5k deposit on 4RS list for a while and actually withdrew from the list before the car was announced but they called me up to see if I wanted a car regardless
🤷♂️
Perhaps that’s a 4RS specific experience due to stronger supply than demand but they have asked nothing of me other than to firm up my order when requested. I can’t fault the experience so far. Car is due to be built in 6 days
🤞🏻
little do they know I’m a serial flipper
🐬
😎
I imagine 992 RS is much more an insider thing and I absolutely get why they wouldn’t favour me over an existing repeat customer.
Having said that, I’ve bought 2 cars from the same dealer months apart so maybe I am qualified now. Maybe they’ll offer me a 983 718 GTEVRS
😂
There you go- I love it when I am wrong! Well done to those who can get the car they want without having to do the Ferrari style indoctrination into their brand.

I'd suggest this rhetoric that dealers black mark flippers is utter urban folk lore at best.
Flippers are pushing the demand and prices up for dealers, and they are lowering the barrier to entry for a host of new buyers who'd stumble at dropping the coin on a depreciating toy. When that toy can be "shown" to appreciate or at least hold its value, then "what the hell are you waiting for"! At the end of it, the flipper then lines up for another one and demand steps up again.
Flippers are a dealers wet dream.
I reckon that should be close to the mark! Personally I’d love it to be $40 but probably more like 40€.
also for MR setup, I did that on mine. Makes a big diff. Defs do that before you track it.
I wasn't too far behind you on the Freeze Point date, but looks like I'm dropping off the pace on the build date
😞
I'm also looking forward to seeing which version of that story I subscribe to, having decided I wanted something harder edged than my current ride ...
Seems an odd car. It’s a track car with no roof. Which makes it a bit balls for track. And if it’s about “driving it in the canyons” just get a Boxster with a fruity exhaust. I’m just jaded as fast road cars really are useless in AU anywhere other than the track.
If i did want one the only way I would be able to get one is when they come on the second hand market , my money is not good enough for the Sydney dealers as I have never been able to get and allocation for anything new ,I know its my first world problem LOL
I would have to 100% agree with
cafe_racer
these very
fast road cars really are useless and a wasted on AUS roads .
Anyway I am certain they are all sold and I look forward to seeing one at a future cars and coffee or track event
First and second gears with your mates on a weekend drive out of the big smoke could still be fun in the Spyder. It is all about providing aural pleasure to the cars behind and maybe even in front of you.
I think the SRS only makes real sense if you are someone who is happy to have one in the garage with the top permanently down and only take it out when weather is 100% guaranteed.
I look forward to seeing one at cars and coffee and then the rain starts. The thing would fill up like a bathtub before you’d get that ridiculous roof up. What a
💩
design (again
🤦♂️
)
better to park it near an exit, first sign of rain, jump in and drive away and maintain 80+ so the rain goes over the top then return when it stops
😂
agree. With that dogshit roof, I doubt many will ever put the roof up
I was at a car and coffee last weekend and a 987 Spyder was there he had the roof on or what looks more like a tarp of a ute
they are cool car but the roof set up certainly is not a practical design
I remember a top gear episode and James may loved every aspect about the car except the roof as he struggled to figure it out
As a 987 Spyder owner (twice over) I'm happy to see the return of the two part roof for the RS. Running in sunshade only mode is my preferred configuration which hasn't been possible in 981 and 718 Spyders.
People over dramatise the complexity of the roof (often the same people who also complain cars are getting too heavy and electronically complex). Once you've put it up and down a couple times it's easy and done in under a minute.
With the roof now combined with that engine it's like having my Touring and 987 in one car, I'm starting to regret passing up a slot...
🤪
Loving the new Boxster Spyder RS. Waaaay out of my budget though. Agree with many posters here about it being a bit ridiculous in Australia. Even my humble 987 Boxster S feels ridiculous sometimes on a public road in Sydney.
Great to see Porsche finally go full balls out on the Boxster. After years of Porsche snobs looking down on it, the Spyder RS crowns the Boxster range!
If I was clever enough, I would've started a new thread. It deserves one, not to be just tacked on to the Cayman GT4 RS thread.
In other GT car news rumour has it that the 911 ST will be released on the 8th June , one to watch out for
https://rennlist.com/articles/rumor-has-it-that-porsche-will-reveal-a-new-model-on-june-8/?utm_source=2023512&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=content
Yeh i suspect so ,,from all indications it should be very similar to the 2016 911R and I believe limited production numbers possibly only 992 units ...???
Plenty to agree with here..... and disagree.
The 987 Spyder was/is one of the the prettiest modern cars out there. Period. (IMO)
The RS is WAY too fast for the AU roads - and - trust me - even on the track - one flat out at 240 on Conrod (sans roof) is pretty scary.... This would take large brass ones...
The "bikini" top is an easy job (although the original Spyders- looked much cleaner (the AP video shows it form a very complimentary angle) - and in a climate like Sydney - the experience of windows down, Wind deflecter removed and bikini top on is pretty good..... And then when the fire ball in the sky retreats to overheat the other side of the world - whip the top off!
For the record - i would NEVER buy a convertible......:) LOVED mine.
For me the sweet spot would be a Manual Spyder + PCCB + Buckets + aftermarket Zorst.
Engaging, fast and a good sized canyon carver.
Congrats not long now. We’ll have to meet up when mine arrives, I’m on Morn Pen also.
When did you receive production photos? Mine started the build last week and was due to finish production today but so far nuthin’. Seems a bit hit and miss based on FB group posts. I don’t believe it exists until they show me
😀
I got production photos on the 18th Feb.
Ship arrived in Melbourne port 14th May..
And, BTW, the shipping trace on TYD is completely unreliable. It currently has my ship near the Suez Canal when it’s already here. I have no idea what ship it is purportedly showing but it’s not mine.
Once your car is built, ask your dealer for the VIN and then use this “find my cargo” service
https://www.hoeghautoliners.com/my-cargo
Simply enter your VIN and it will tell you what ship it’s on.
You can then track the ship via

Lots of different colours with the Weissach exposed hood. Doesn't quite work for me, but price seems to have found a level where cars are selling.
Should’ve ticked the black calipers option, the red is too much of a contrast, nothing else red on the car. Easy enough to do aftermarket I guess.
strong asking price

🧐
My guess; Demand probably not as aggressive at some dealers, buyer pulled the pin on delivery and dealer principal didn’t feel like paying 7% to have it sit on the floor, quick flip to another dealer to carry the ongoing.
Whoever wrote the sales pitch is one weird chappy:
The GT4 RS with the Weissach package is a high-performance sports car produced by Porsche. However, as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Porsche had not released a GT4 RS version of the 718 Cayman. The GT4 RS variant typically represents an even more track-focused and powerful version of the GT4 model, with enhanced aerodynamics, performance upgrades, and weight reduction measures. The Weissach package is an optional package offered by Porsche on some of its high-performance models, such as the 911 GT3 RS and 918 Spyder. The package is named after Porsche's development center in Weissach, Germany. It typically includes lightweight components like carbon fiber elements, a carbon fiber roof, carbon ceramic brakes, and additional aerodynamic features. The Weissach package is designed to further enhance the performance and handling characteristics of the vehicle. It's important to note that the automotive industry is constantly evolving, and new models and variants are frequently introduced. Therefore, it's advisable to check with an official Porsche dealership or the company's website for the most up-to-date information on the availability and specifications of the GT4 RS with the Weissach package.
The person was using Artificial Intelligence (Chat GPT) to write that. And they clearly had minimal time to proof read it afterwards. Chat GPT does not have access to knowledge posted on the internet beyond September 2021. It used a lot of extrapolation from data prior to Sept 2021 to try to make up for its lack of knowledge, hence the wierd end result.
If you're using ChatGPT Plus it can use the web too. Here's there result of me asking it to:
"Write a brief description suitable for a advertisement selling a Porsche GT4 RS with the Weissach package"
...
Unleash your passion for speed with the Porsche GT4 RS Weissach Package. This rare and unique model delivers an unparalleled driving experience with a roaring 4.0L flat-six engine, producing a powerful 502 horsepower. Its lightweight construction and aerodynamic design, enhanced by the Weissach package's carbon-fiber parts, ensure peak performance and agility.
The GT4 RS Weissach Package also adds a distinctive aesthetic, featuring carbon fiber detailing throughout the interior and exterior, plus a titanium roll cage for that added element of security and style. Paired with the flawless handling and precise steering Porsche is renowned for, this vehicle promises a thrilling ride.
Experience the feeling of boundless freedom on the open road, or tear up the racetrack, as you master the power and control of the Porsche GT4 RS Weissach Package. It's more than just a car—it's an invitation to experience life at full speed.
Don't miss your chance to own a piece of Porsche's racing heritage. Secure your Porsche GT4 RS with the Weissach package today and redefine what it means to drive.

Bit better than the dealers.
Frustratingly, they found some bugs on the Hoegh Bangkok ship so all cars have to undergo cleaning by customs before they can be released potentially delaying delivery by up to a couple of months! Everyone who has a car onboard will lucky to see their 4RS until mid July at best.
Brown Stink Bug?
That debacle is an absolute nightmare when you are impacted by it... surprised the shipping line didn't mandate treatment for all cargo knowing it was calling into Australian ports
Maybe he could have spent the money on track time to have avoided his long license holiday- those Über bills will add up, and his insurance in the coming years. All that magic happens at an all too fast pace it seems!
Loosing your license is so un-cool.
Had a mate who's barrister advised him to sell his cars before court date after a particularly high speed fine (and a shocking speeding history). Was done as part of his strategy to avoid time behind bars. It worked.
His reply on FB when I asked whether 4RS was to blame for licence loss (poor bugger)
Doug MacLeod my YouTube Car review vlogs dating back to 2018 sent to channel 9 and herald sun by a cyclist group
🙂
Sounds like the one dickhead in particular here in Adelaide who goes by the name of the Vegan Cyclist. Him and his missus are very vocal about car drivers in the hills, and I'm pretty sure they have/had a vlog where they were posting up videos and photos of the 'offending' cars and calling the cops.
I'd love to see them get their just desserts one day, as they're a menace in the hills and don't give a shit about anyone else.
Some my think that it is no excuse , but it is very easily done in a modern P car , I am certain he will sell the car very quickly , looks like he will be using public transport more often now ..
The GT4 has been tracked at PI, A young women races a Gt4 Club Sport, just a couple of kids where's the dough come from? Also have a late model Annerverery Targa, Half their luck.
i don't really understand his pricing comment, is he saying he is expecting way more that $450k? or less? I see a few of these for sale with 3more on car sales, but not sure they are even getting any enquiries on those based on carsales notifications. More are are being delivered in Syd in next week or two too (know 2 people getting them).
na I’m with
@Peter John
you’re talking about a different guy, I’ve met the GT4CS driver and her partner at the track, yes they have heritage edition 992 amongst other things. Nick/Driver88 features her in one of his videos but he’s not her partner.
Yep, This is the bloke I am refering too from the F/B add that is being discussed in this thread.
Could do just following his F/B thread but the young lady is a separate identity and races porka's .
Looks like my Emira has met the same fate. I haven't been following closely as I'm OS at the moment but I got notification that customs is holding my car until further notice.
Apparently this is the first ship in months to be flagged. The last was earlier this year and cars from that ship were delayed by 2 month. Fingers crossed for both of us that they come through faster than that.
BTW, Been looking at getting an Emira too. Curious as to what spec you went for?
Mine was inside the first 30 orders in the country. At the time you could choose suspensIon setup, one of 5 colours, and interior colour and that was about it.
I had to agree to the suspension well before any reviews landed, so I took a punt and went sport. It was also the only part of the build they would not allow you to change after you ordered it. I think after everything I’ve read and watched I made the right decision for me, but the decision was made completely blind so that was more good luck than good management.
The 4 cylinder will probably be the better track choice. It won’t be very long before there is a work-around for the engine to unleash it, and that Mercedes unit is a known quantity. For me though the manual 6 is the better choice. It’ll be road driven 99.9% of the time, and I still prefer a clutch.
The blue looks very good. Saw one in London three weeks ago when I was there. They look terrific in the flesh.
I already have a shark blue car so will go for the yellow if I pull the trigger on one.
Went to Lotus Melb yesterday to check out a bunch of customer Emira's they just got in. Except for the recently announced additional colours, there was an example of every colour in the range. The standout colour, IMHO, was the Seneca Blue. Really suits the car. It looks very close to Shark Blue...but I already have a Shark Blue car and don't really want another one so close in tone.
I was keen to see the Yellow as that was my preferred choice but after seeing it in the flesh, I have changed my mind. It's a lot more "eggy"/"mustardy" than I was expecting. I thought it was going to be a brighter yellow more akin to the Lotus Yellow.
They also had a Magma Red which looked better that I expected. That might be my new choice. The Nimbus Grey also looked good. The dark Verdant green was just too dark for me. Indeed, on the showroom floor it was almost black.
I was told that if I placed an order today, I should not expect to get a car until Q3/4 2024! Not sure I am prepared to wait that long.
I’d take that delivery date with a grain of salt, I think I’ve been pushed back 5 times now (admittedly some of it was covid production delays). Originally was supposed be June last year.
Definitely not a grey car guy but the Nimbus looks really good. Though I definitely think the Seneca Blue is the best out of the colours I’ve seen in the flesh. Haven’t seen Magma so will have to take your word for it
😉
AFAIK, the Emira GT4 is a track/race only model akin to the 718 GT4 Clubsport. The two Emiras I am looking forward to are the Emira S and the harder core Emira R.
Yep, track only model for the gt4. Will be interesting to see it’s power figures, I know there is a BoP but you want to be able to de-restrict it for track days when not doing races.
I believe it's 400 PS so no real change from the road car. But I hear that the Emira R is going to be a lightweight, full beans version of the AMG 2.0l so it should be well in excess of 400 PS.
Guilty as charged….but…just one last comment.
I just drove one and bought it. It was a car that the buyer bailed on. Pick up on Wednesday. Now back to waiting for my 4 RS to be released from the docks.
Congrats mate! Enjoy in good health - hopefully we get our cars off the boat sooner than we think.
Sorry mate - so few cars for enthusiasts being released. Will start a thread where people can discuss it.

Haha well spotted. Now that I know you’re looking I’ll be sure to do it more often
😂
Is it on the water?
Mine finished build 23 May and is at the port, due to be shipped on Hoegh London this week 21 June and arrive 1 August in Melbourne so I assume pickup mid august.
Helpful FB dudes pointed me to MyPorsche (on PC) which tells you your VIN and then you plug that in here and it tells you which ship and using that same website you can track the ship location and ETA
👏🏻
https://www.hoeghautoliners.com/my-cargo
Thanks @DJM, not yet on the water, released for transport and due to ship in the next couple of weeks, so the wait is not quite over ... But look forward to being able to track it a bit more accurately than the MyPorsche site
🙂
Be thankful it isn't being delivered to NSW. Far as I am aware my car is still sitting off Port Kembla. Apparently at the end of May there were 13 car carriers waiting to dock, with two in port.
Supposedly there are only 5 or 6 car wash bays there, which until upgraded will cause an ongoing delay to NSW car deliveries
👎
Some small pieces of decoration will be applied in the next couple of weeks.
oh, and it’s Carrara White which has just been removed from the available colours.
@WGA
This may sound offensive, yet it most certainly isn't intended, but out of pure curiosity I've wanted to ask you this.
You've owned (own) some pretty bloody mental cars that most of us plebs (well...me especially) could only dream of owning, yet do you still get mega excited when you order then take delivery?
Congrats mate. Literally identical spec as mine. I haven't seen many (if any) CMW with blue wheels. I thought mine would be the only in the country. I am still waiting for mine to finish build.
Astute question. The answer is no, not really anymore. Delivery holds very little excitement for me these days. This is my 6th RS model or my 10th GT car out of 20ish porkers and numerous other brands I have owned. My dealer is always a little surprised when I simply say “no ceremony, just give me the keys and I will be off”.
At least we are in different cities!
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2023-porsche-718-cayman-gt4-rs
interesting sale price?
no w-pack
Yup, definitely needs the inlets worst case. Once you buy all the parts and install would get pricey
Out of curiosity, how long did everyone wait for their car to get on a ship. i.e from when production finished to when it was on a boat and left the port? And how long ago? Is it getting better or worse?
Mine was no more that 1 week. Some wait a lot longer.
A lot of it is the luck of the draw depending on whether a ship is ready to go vs waiting for enough cars to fill the ship. So your car could be ready to go but the ship isn't.
My Lotus was built months ago. Sat in the factory for weeks waiting for finishing parts, then sat at the docks (in England) for damn near 2 months, then got stuck offshore from Port Kembla for 4 weeks.
If you're taking delivery in Sydney chances are excellent that you will experience a delay through Port Kembla. There are roughly a dozen car vessels sitting off shore trying to dock.
Good to know. The car has completed build and waiting to get on a boat so just curious how long to expect before it is on a boat, but sounds like it can vary from 1 week to 2 months. I am a little impatient.
Just got back from QLD attending the Master GT4 RS event. I have only had my car for 1 week so it was good to get familiar with the car by flogging someone else's before mine. It was also great to meet, Trent and Brendan, who have had their cars for awhile now and have managed to put some serious kms on their cars on track already.
It was also valuable to chat to Luke Youlden, the chief instructor, and his crew about how the 4RS has performed so far after multiple track days of hard abuse.
Luke mentioned that so far, it seems that students are generally able to put down marginally quicker lap times in the 4RS at QR than they are able to in a GT3. Although, it is important to note that all their 4RS have had a re-alignment to make them a little more stable.
Overall, a great event. A great car. Great weather. Nice people. Learned a lot. Enjoyed it very much!
Did they require you to have completed the other Porsche driving experience days, namely ‘precision’?
I tried to book the master gt4rs and they said no go until I work through the lower experience days.
also, any chance your dealership threw it in? The masterclass wasn’t around when I bought mine.
No freebie from the dealer I’m afraid. Had to use my own money.
And yes, they require you to do the other courses beforehand…although I suspect if you can show other relative experience, they will possibly let you attend.
I did the 992 GT3 course recently. It'd be *(I assume) on par with GT4RS course, really great day out for those so inclined.
GT3 was great on the track but would be a terrible (IMO) road car, its also quite large. I thought the 991 GT3 / wide bodies were large but this is whole other thing.
Great program they offer. Instructors are professionals and thorough. I did 1,2&3 last year with a friend with intention to do master down the track.
I got a lot out of all three and despite maybe being able to get through to master without doing prior I’d recommend doing them all.
At the time I didn’t have a clue who any of the instructors were- a wee bit embarrassing but after a quick google- they do have some great drivers on board- and they’ve been doing the gig for a long time.
You get to beat the hell out of all cars in the range - you’ll never be able to do such outside of the course they offer. Great value.
Enjoy the rs
@WGA
GT3 terrible road car …..ah ok. I’m not sure the 4RS would be more favorable in on road conditions.
Maybe if you lived in the English countryside and you commute daily on those woeful roads the GT3 maybe …..
In Aus as a special day/road-trip car on the Vic Alp roads it’s sublime do yourself a favor
😂
BTW I’m looking forward to having a drive in the 4RS the induction noise sounds like fun.
About a month from production to shipped. The MyPorsche app/web page is not very accurate. It shows it was shipped 19 June and the ship is passing Gibraltar now whereas the shipping tracker shows it left 21 June and just berthed in northern Spain.
This was the response I got last week when I asked Porsche if I had to go through every level. I’m no race driver, I’ve just done lots of club track days, a few a year, in various cars including a few different GT cars. So I will likely book in soon to do Performance and then Master GT4RS.
In line with our (global) Porsche Track Experience guidelines, all participants are asked to complete all levels in order prior to progressing through to the next program. Our skill-focused, purpose-built Track Experience training courses are designed and structured in a progressive way with the content building with each program. Especially focusing on fine tuning driving skills across different exercise modules so that the drivers can maximise their potential on the track and extract the most out of the training.
I have checked in with our Chief instructor and provided him with your previous experience, he has allowed you to bypass to Performance program, however if you still wish to do an earlier level, you are more than welcome to enrol.
@WGA Damn! I missed you by a day ... I was there on the Tuesday and completely agree, great fun, good people, great instructors and a brilliant opportunity to start pushing in someone else's car
🙂
. Not having worked with in-car data collection before, having the VBox set up and (a) getting feedback from a race engineer right after a session; and (b) having the data as a souvenir of the day (for better or worse
😆
) was a bit of a highlight for me.
I also did the Performance (Level 3) training on the Monday, because I needed to tick that box - a few pics of that day below, including the high class pit crew at work
😁
. I
t was a great opportunity to drive a wide range of 718 and 911 variants (including the GT4RS and the GT3). The morning exercises (high speed corners, trail braking) were really useful for me, as someone who's only just started tracking. For others who were more experienced, I think a good opportunity to start learning a couple of key corners ... And the afternoon was a chance to get a few laps of the Sprint track in each car, so all in all good fun and a nice warm up to the full day of GT4RS lapping the next day.
And yes, the weather ... such a pleasant change from Melbourne at this time of year
😄
He's a nice bloke and great driver.
Shame he's been overlooked for a few good drives by paying drivers, yet that's professional motorsport these days. It's not how fast you are, but how much you can bring to a team
🙄
Hi Chuckay, suspect your car and mine might be on the wharf together. Tracking mine via the VIN on the Hoegh Autoliners website has just updated to show 14 July departure of the vessel my car is on, with ETA Melbourne 24 August ... and thank you
@DJM
for the tip!
Mine was release 27/06 and got to Bremerhaven 30/06 so I might be on the next boat. Hopefully not but we will find out in the next week I guess.
Indicative shipping is 10/07-24/07
Seems the best thing you can do is get a wider tyre up front and a good setup with a few non stock parts. Maybe some Hoosier r7’s. But at that point you may as well just get a track only car as those tyres aren’t street legal.
I’ve added some of the clubsport/cup parts to get setup how I like it but haven’t played with new wheels yet.
Exactly, if you want outright times it's time to get a track car. Not like it is expensive to buy a trailer and car to tow if you've got half a mil to spend on one of these plus mods.
^^agree
I got rid of my RX7 track car in 2021. As much as it was a hoot and very quick, I got tired of trailering it everywhere and looking at it parked up and unable to be used except on track. The 4RS probably won’t be quite as quick (despite costing 8 times as much) but it’ll be much more comfortable and simple to drive to and fro, should break less often and also be able to be enjoyed on road from time to time.
Lots of people have a second set of rims for their road car to use on track. But I couldn’t be arsed given centre locks. For me it’s not about outright lap times anyway, more about enjoying the car at speed.
Last round we had two of these go into the 1:38's at GP circuit... 38.2 & 38.4 iirc you're not wrong, this is a lot of car for a drive there, drive home package!
38.2 and 39.6. Both were not stock though, have camber tops, toe links, aggressive alignment and one had a DSC controller. Both on A052 which is as fast as Trofeos. Might see a 36 on green Cup2R if they ever release GT4RS sizes.
No less impressive IMO, I really would consider those items to fall into the realm of
setup/chassis tuning
, to me they're not mods, as they don't fundamentally change the cars output, weight or chassis.
a 36 would be a mega time, I am sure someone will get there
Adding 2 more data points to the 4RS times for SMSP GP:
Another 4RS also on 245/295 20 A052s did 1.38.x confirming the 4RS is well and truly sub 1:40 for the Gardner circuit. Pretty impressive imo. Even with light suspension mods or chassis/setup tuning
However a different 4RS (with quite an experienced driver) on 265/295 20 R7 slicks was 1:39.7.
Admittedly different day, different driver makes useful conclusions between tyres limited. But currently all the best SMSP GP circuit times for the 4RS I have seen have been on A052 road-legal semi slicks. I know what tyre I’m going to fit on a Spyder RS if my allocation comes through
Given that Porsche is the feature brand again this year with the central sculpture being Porsche focused, I am fully expecting a surprise or two. 911 ST maybe?
There is a Sport Classic sitting at Parra. It’s like a super expensive turbo with a body kit and a manual transmission, with 150nm less torque.
Its a really odd niche when the GT3 touring exists, other than collectors I’m not sure who the buyer is for it.
it’s all part of the strategy to drive margins up by pushing more “luxury” products. All that fancy leather, wood and basket weave……
There seems to be no shortage of buyers that must have the latest and will pay whatever it costs to get one. Probably collectors and speculators buy most of them?
or perhaps the buyer is not interested in track so GT products serve little purpose for him/her but they want something rare not just a carrera. Great for the weekend winery run with the wife with everyone pointing and nodding at your good fortune. It’s a recipe they repeat time and time again and profits continue the upward March.
The limited run models that inevitably will follow in their EV ranges will be interesting, how do you make that exciting…..Taycan Sport Classic……? Macan EV GT Turbo? Body kit, interior and a few more Duracells to drop the 0-100 into the 2s
🤷♂️
https://techcrunch.com/2023/06/29/how-porsche-plans-to-grow-margins-with-luxury-and-speed/
This video is the reason I was saying I wasn't sure who the niche was. Other than the looks I don't see it.
In Australia I imagine the margin is higher again.
I'd totally buy one, but at the money it makes zero sense to me. You're better off with a GTS or the Touring if you want the road chariot.
The EV problem is one that all manufacturers are going to face. That said, Its only us dinosaurs that care about ICE. Most teenagers now think that Teslas are cool. F**king Tesla.
My daughters 18 & 20 have always found my car choices “embarassing“ yet they think Teslas are some amazing luxury car
🤷♂️
. I took one of them to school in my old 996 GT2 but I had to stop 300m from school so she could jump out without being spotted
😂
absolutely I’m the dinosaur in my family. They’d LOVE
😍
to be dropped off in a Tesla……
We hired a BYD EV in Noosa recently and we were all amused by the tunes, bings and bongs, self steering and active cruise. I got out lamentingthe future of transport becoming an appliance but the kids were thinking nice comfortable smooth ride, cheap to operate. What’s not to like. They were not keen on BUILD YOUR DREAMS emblazoned across the tail though
😂
AD09 are a good tyre, but I wouldn't put them on a GT4 or GT4RS unless it was purely a road car with maybe 1 track day a year. A052 is a much better tyre for lap times. AD09 will feel better on a stock car because of the sidewall.
A052 or Trofeo R would be my choice for GT4/GT4RS on stock wheels as a track tyre.
Call MK Motorsport in Melbourne, he should be able to get you Trofeos.
Cup2R haven't been released in 4RS sizes yet.
Best other options are A052 or Hoosier R7s.
I have been running AO52's and they have been very good. Also great in the wet as already mentioned. They seem easy to get.
The Cup2R tires I was told they were end-of-life and unattainable anymore.
If you shop around you should be able to get Cup2R tires in the K1 Ferrari spec, the compound is the same and you can step up to 255 front and 305 rear for some proper performance. I bought some a while back from St George Tyres. These should be a little faster than A052s, otherwise Trofeo R and RE71RS in 19s are all pretty similar pace. As mentioned above the 4RS has been setting some very nice times on the A052s.
FWIW - I went to Sandown on Friday and someone was there with the A052's on his 4RS. Running on track with them against my car on the OEM Dunlop Sport Maxx Race it was hard to see the difference in corner speeds, by my goodness did they have significant advantages under brakes! Could gain 10-20m at Dandenong corner alone. I'd expect the difference was 1-2s at Sandown between the rubbers for sure.
I'll definitely look at them when I need new rubber.
Also - I haven't enjoyed Sandown in +10 years but my goodness its a hoot in one of these cars! lol
How were your times? I found the dunlops to be a tad more durable than the cup 2's. Have been able to get into the 15's with dunlops but will be trying the AO52's next.
See you at PI in August?
Only did 2 sessions (just did the afternoon thing) - got in to the 17s with 40psi pressures (didn't bother setting them for the track pressures given I was only doing 2 "non timed" sessions).
Definitely keen to go back there again though - was more entertaining for me than the trip I did to PI last year. This car didn't feel that different to the old car at PI but it is a totally different beast at Sandown. Signed up to do the Calder Park National Circuit day in Novemeber, but at this stage haven't made any other track day plans. My car still only has 2,000kms on it in the 9 months I've had it lol
That's a bit of a skewed result though because there's a lot of missed sales by other comapnies due to a lack of available supply.
But in fairness those Atto3's do look less terrible without the BUILDYOURDREAMS written across the back lol
I remember reading a news article ten or fifteen years ago (I know for sure it was really a long time, I think pre-Tesla, or certainly Tesla being anything other than the quirky company putting batteries in a Lotus) that said the Chinese had decided they'd never catch up to the Germans or anyone else in building high quality ICE vehicles so they were going to start focusing on EVs and aim to dominate that market as it grew ...
BYD (and the rest) are the result of those efforts I guess ...
Imagine the position we could be in here if Holden or Ford Aus had played a long game like that instead of cranking out big sedans the market no longer wanted ...
😂
"Imagine the position we could be in here if Holden or Ford Aus had played a long game like that instead of cranking out big sedans the market no longer wanted ...
😂
"
Not with our inept handbrake govts
Success? Gee, I wonder why they have that percentage of the market?
🤔
Maybe something to do with them being more 'affordable', a.k.a cheap Chinese made shit, than a Tesla than actually being a quality vehicle
😅
I've no doubt they'll start exploding into a retina burning fireball sooner or later
(not aimed at you directly
@mc968cs
)
Took me a while to put two and two together. Good driving out there earlier in the week. Your car looks great!
Little vid of me having a bit of a moment with the tc/esc off
41's isn't hanging around!
Just out of curiosity
@cafe_racer
, and not that I'll ever get to drive around PI, nor can I drive that well, yet would short shifting help coming out of turn 11 so you can jump on the gas a bit earlier and harder, or would that drop the revs too much?
Spot on. I short shift out of t11 normally but was still warming the tyres on the lap above I posted so wasn’t giving it full focus. Based on the moment I had I probably should have been paying more attention and less heavy on the throttle.
👍
I only asked, as that's what I did when I raced bikes there a couple of times, as I tried to hold 3rd on my first laps there, yet found out real quick that was a good way to go over the bars
😅
Great driving too
👍
41s is a fabulous time. Sadly, I don't have the talent to get anywhere near that time. Current PB is 47s. Curious to know what tyres you were running?
From my perspective I had a frustrating day. It was my first track day in the car at PI and I was a couple of seconds off my PB. Although almost everyone I spoke to who was there on the Monday told me that for whatever reason the track was much slower on the Tuesday. In addition, my car was moving around a lot under brakes into T1 which did not inspire me with confidence and that's after getting the recommended Manthey alignment done to the car. I thought it might be the tyres but they were fine at 32psi. The Manthey alignment is supposed to reduced this 4RS trait so I think I need to take it back to get it checked. For a comparison, I took my 992 GT3 out later in the day and it was solid as a rock into T1.
Anyway, while frustrating, I still enjoyed the day very much.
Do you have a copy of set up to share
@WGA
? The wiggle upon nose dive is unsettling but can be driven around. Confidence is everything!
Nice to see you Monday
@cafe_racer
41 is magic! Can you share a clean lap video? I can’t believe the top speed of 260- I can’t get above 235 in the road going or cs 981.
That’s quite ok. It’s not a secret sauce or herbs and spices- the best thing about “Manthey alignment” is their tools- taking wheels off and going to axle, using lasers is great. As for how much camber and toe it’s not a protected, sworn to secrecy thing. It’s so expensive due to the time up and down on the lift playing around with corner weights and the hourly rate. Really no different to string lining other than the need for wheels on and off.
The cayman 4rs should have stiffer front spring to reduce nose dive that causes in and out toe under braking- the wobble bum. Gt3 suspension at rear is different in one way or another.
I’ve used TPC offset toe links and it doesn’t remove the in out toe all together. Ride heights and weight balance will play a part, but as mentioned braking around it you’ll just get used to it.
Hi mate, popped up a video of a clean lap for you.
https://youtu.be/MPf9SeXQVpY
For
@WGA
was running Trofeo R's, you are right, the track didn't seem quick as i have done a 1:40 with standard Cup 2's, I had hoped these would be faster, which I think they are, but track didn't allow for it on the day. Car is otherwise stock aside from some MR pads, brake lines and an MR alignment). I get the same T1 wiggle which can be unnerving, I drove my mates 992 GT3 the same day, we were both quicker in my 4RS for some reason...Just seemed more predictable on the limit.
Interesting production numbers from Rennlist. They are certainly pumping them out. Indeed, the number of people I met lately who already have one or have one coming is a lot!
Hoegh London, arrived 2 August but has been sitting at anchor in the bay ever since. finally pulled into dock yesterday. Porsche and a mate of a mate at the dock both said today is the day
🤞🏻
Don’t you know? RS stands for
really
special
🍿
Having had my 4RS alongside my 992 GT3 now for a couple of months the answer to that question depends on your driving preferences. Indeed, there is no right or wrong answer because each response is personal.....but for me....right now....I prefer the feel of the GT3.
Too right. And you really need to have the cars same day, back to back to compare. The gt3 grip just makes sense. I think it was the Top Gear video with the silver cars on track highlight the chassis pros and cons.
Do production numbers make you feel special? Sure! It’s just another Rolex competition.
You’re getting an RRS yeah?!
😜
Me and my mate swap our cars a fair bit at track days. He has a 992 gt3, I’ve got the 4RS. We were at Philip island and both of us were faster in the 4RS and it also felt more comfortable at the limit, he said he preferred the 4RS. I’d say a lot of that was setup and a little bit of tyres.
Long story short, he is selling his 993 GT3 and said he would have kept it if it was a 4RS. Being over $100k cheaper helps the 4RS too when driving it anything above 7/10’s.
At sandown we both prefer the 992 GT3.
There's no perfect car for everything let's be honest. I still stand 100% by my opinion that I think my 981 GT4 is a far more enjoyable road car. So when I go to the track I will take the 4RS as it's definitely more fun, but for a weekend drive I still take the old girl these days now that the novelty has worn off the new toy.
But I also tell people that out of my 3 P Cars - if I could only keep one I'm going to keep my Cayenne GTS! It's definitely my favorite car!
Good point, for a road car neither my mates 992 GT3 or my 4RS are ideal. Both cars mainly get driven to and from the track and otherwise sit in storage. It is getting to the point a dedicated track only car makes more sense for our use.
My friend has thrown me the keys to his GTS Cayenne whenever he upgrades- last drive I had I thought why do I need a 911 or Cayman! They are amazing!
A weekender that you can tow through the gears and have some nice exhaust sounds tick and tick!
Wonder if the gt3 had a nicer track set up how it would feel. You think it’s better at Sandown due to rotation at lower speeds whereas the higher speed pi corners it coasts around nicer?
Sure is fun driving to and from the track- easier, but towing it’s nice for comfort and cruising home without bouncing around on stiff springs and r specs.
Yes, it is.
Love my GTS too. Although not sure its my favourite..... but it is definitely my wife's equal fav.
While doing the Master GT4 RS event, Luke Youlden, the chief instructor, commented that so far most drivers tend to be up to speed and faster in a shorter amount of time in the 4RS than those that attend the Master GT3.....but....those that persist with the GT3 are ultimately faster than the GT4 RS. Case in point, reference lap for the GT3 is 57.1 secs. Reference lap for the GT4 RS is 57.8 secs. I believe Thomas Mezera was the driver in both cases.
I went down the dedicated track car route for a few years. You can buy very fast cars, very cheaply once you abandon road reg.
There is also the risk equation - I could bash the old girl over the kerbs, cop a spray of gravel, whatever, didn't matter for a track pig!
But I got the shits looking at the car on the trailer for months at a time, unable to be used on the road and having to trailer it everywhere for even the most minor repairs or tyres or brakes, waiting for E85 to turn to jelly in the lines.
For a change, I am looking forward to being able to drive the 4RS to and from track days (maybe 4 to 6 a year) but be able to enjoy the car in between.
That is, until I get the bug for track days again or get sucked in by my105 again
. Case in point......

Scottish heritage
🤑
But I’ve also learnt a lot selling my GTS on Carsales. I’ll send him a text telling him it’s worth $50k and then ignore him
when he calls me back
😂
4 with change for a trailer
@DJM
Yeah that is a very good point. I never thought about the actual pain of servicing, repairs, parts etc. I often think about changing to a track car as that is all I do with mine. It is very convenient just to drive and leave the track without a trailer.
More was a reference to his habit of getting bored with cars and moving them on then a comment about the GT4RS specifically. But I get your point. Short of a GT3 RS there isn't much better out there, and the new GT3 RS is wildly impractical for road use.
I'd say if you have a road bias the Spyder RS may end up being the pick of the lot if the rumours about a softer setup are true, but that may be just me.
I haven't driven one as yet but they sound like fun would I prefer one over a 992 GT3 , No and thats nothing to do with the 4RS as a car its more to do with my preference for the 911 and the Motorsport heritage that goes along with that.
The ultimate modern sportscar is very big call lots of factors come into this revered title.
Righto Nostradamus. It’d be foolish of me to say this one’s a keeper…..but I can’t imagine what I’d move on to. Maybe an EV with space for my lawn bowls. 992 3RS is a bit OTT for me
🤡
certainly look like a twat on the road in one of those
The boat was last seen steaming east past Wilson’s Prom so either they finally unloaded my car or they made off with it
🤷♂️
Porsche contacted me last night to say they hope to be inviting me to Essendon for pre delivery Thursday or Friday
this week
. I assume delivery would then be next week. I was originally expecting July, then early august and it’s now probably early September.
Nothing Porsche can do about it but I didn’t expect the boat to arrive into port Phillip bay on 2 August
and to sit out there for 3 weeks before docking and unloading. Seems to be a lot of congestion at the port. Luck of the draw I suppose.
Ports have been clogged for months.
When waiting for my BRZ in March, the ship sat circling below Victoria for about a week. Some other posters on the GR86/BRZ forum, had ships turned away from Melbourne to unload in Sydney.
While none of the above is welcome news
😗
I feel I have been duly warned that I will need to continue to be patient, so thanks all for sharing the experiences!
Oh yeah ...
😆
The abbrievated version goes something like this:
Departing Bremerhaven - awesome, car is finally on the water
Wait, you're heading for Whitehill Point in England
🤨
- I guess I shouldn't have expected you to go straight to Melbourne ...
WTF now you're going back to Bruges - is my car even on this boat??
🤔
2 more European port calls later - ok, finally underway, we're going around Spain and into the Med, heading for the Suez so you get here as efficiently as possible
😀
Nooooo!! - why did you not turn left into the Med?? now you're going the long way around Africa FFS
Last position now 11 days old, off Durban - I know the Indian Ocean is quite big but surely there should have been an updated position by now?
😬
... I guess if it had caught fire or sunk it probably would have been on the news ...
Lunchtime Tuesday, compulsively checking for any updated position - phew, it hasn't sunk, offshore Albany means it's not stopping in Freo, I guess that's a win
🙃
And there hasn't been an updated position since then ...
That felt quite therapeutic to get that all out, thanks
@sjm
for the prompt
😆
haha i feel your pain. My Porsche app showed it going through Med. But ship tracker showed it heading down west coast Africa. The app is clearly dodgy. Then the ship tracker goes "dark" for days at a time, arrrggggh.
When the ship was parked in Port Phillip Bay for 3 weeks, the app showed it off west coast WA - seems to be a generic shipping route/schedule, not actually tracking your ship.
I have some very good news though, car was offloaded at the port on Monday/Tuesday and I got the call today to say it's already at Essendon pre delivery centre. They invited me to go there tomorrow. Heading there in the morning with
@hugh
to check it out. They also offered to deliver to me at Brighton on Tuesday. So from port to delivery in about a week is surprisingly quick turn around given they said they were just flooded with new Porsches, 2 ships dumped onto the port.
I will collect Thursday so they have time to install 2 harnesses and extinguisher.
They agreed on sale to throw in a car cover and all weather mats. I told them today i forgot the Techquipment trickle charger and she agreed to chuck that in as well.
Have faith, it WILL happen eventually!
Thanks. Happy with the blue cage to match wheels, seats, door pulls, only about a $500 option too
👌🏻
I also had blue seat belts originally but decided to revert to black, didn’t want to overdo it.
Non Weissach Pack so that would have been circa $365k drive away new plus wrap etc maybe 375k.
At $399k plus circa $35k stamp duty etc it’ll be around $435k drive away. Still a reasonable markup on new albeit the cheapest to date that I’ve seen. And new price did increase recently. But it’s yellow……
👎🏻
Tucked up at home
👌
Amazing range of snorting, snarling and barking sounds even at low rpm. Big day racking up kms tomorrow, 9000rpm can’t come soon enough
In the same vein, looking for PPF recommendations in Melbourne. If the Port of Melbourne
https://www.vicports.vic.gov.au/operations/Pages/ship-movements.aspx
page is to believed, my car should be getting off the boat over the weekend/early next week
😁
I used Max Wang for my GT3 - Melbourne based - he did a fantastic job no issues what so ever. Perfect for the fussy owner from amazing workshop to security, ticked all the boxes.
https://www.instagram.com/maxwell__wang/?hl=en
He will quote to your personal requirements for a full PPF on 4RS I believe he quoted at DJM 13k.
I think the GT3 is around 10k I had my windscreen done and added a black out area to the rear.
Max Wang has a good rep and was recommended by Porsche Brighton. But he was very slow to respond and quoted $13,379 for full PPF which surprised me.
While i was waiting for Max, I spoke to Auto Attention in Richmond (Damon Lawrence). I saw on Insta that he details and ceramic coats some of the cars that Max wraps. Turns out AA do lots of wraps as well. In fact, he has the contract for Lotus and does heaps of Emiras (2 in the workshop yesterday).
Damon didn't want to cut Max's lunch but I asked him to quote and in the end, we agreed on $10k which includes:
pre detail (car was filthy after 1,000km drive on Thursday!)
indigo blue stickers to wing end plates and front splitter
full PPF (including double layering around wheel arches)
full ceramic coating afterward, including wheels
Much better value than Max and was great to deal with. I dropped my car off yesterday, pickup Tuesday 12th.
I understand Max is a bit of a guru and I realise some people are very particular about PPF. But I am not one of those. If there is a join here or there, that doesn't bother me. But Damon went to great lengths to explain their process yesterday - they use a mix of templates and custom cut PPF. They carefully wrap into all edges and openings. He showed me a couple of spots where joins cannot be avoided, meh. I'm sure I will be happy with the result. He works on some cool cars - i particularly like the restored '87 Lamborghini Jalpa. Last time I saw one of those would have been late 80s as a teenager at Brent's in Oakleigh - we used to drop in periodically when in the area, to ogle their fancy cars.
Love it. After 1,000km in the seat on Thursday through some epic roads, I didn't want to get out of it! Back in the Cayman chassis but with the full fruit engine and short stacked PDK, happy.
Pickup from PPF 12 Sept, throw on another 300km to complete 1,500km run then into PCB 14/15 Sept for oil change and to fit harnesses and extinguisher. Then I'm ready for more epic drives and the odd track day.
Melbourne prices for PPF are up there. Just had the Emira done for ~5500, will have to check the invoice.
I'm not fussy about PPF either. Its there to protect the paint, nothing more imo.
Out of curiosity, has anyone enquired as to whether the new vanadium grey metallic paint and carmine red accented interior available in the GT4RS spyder will eventually be available for the coupe?
In the first 5 mins or so, he highlights what he thinks are the weaknesses of the 4RS and what SSR have done to correct them. And more comments at the 16:30 mark after the 1st lap and then again at 27:00 mark after the 2nd lap are also interesting.
Pretty interesting, it's cool. But also, why not just get a track car at the point of adding the above (which would be $100k in Aust at a guess?) by that point you are into the car for near $500k.
I added toe rods and A052's.
Seemed about perfect now to me.
The irony now is those mods have taken away the sketchiness which means the car is nicer to drive but not necessarily more fun.
It really surprises how many people are searching for better handling characteristics from the 4RS straight out of the box. Has Porsche (GT Dept) not developed the suspension adequately for the RS package or is it something else?
Around the 13:00 mark is interesting as some shitbox cuts across his nose. That was close…..
If they gave us fancy wishbones, the 911 might lose the throne
🤷♂️
so we make do with struts
😂
Gotta have something to blame for people's driving inadequacies
😁
Im sure most owners won't be pushing a 4RS to it's limits, yet like any sports car or bike there's a base setting and refine it as you go, as we all have different driving styles, yet some people just can't help themselves and throw money at it
😁
Yeah the Porsche Track Ap (which I must say is pretty cool) - gives you a % of your limit. I've never gone above 90% in this car. Have a mate that usually runs at around 97% lol
I’d imagine the factory setting is very conservative as with all/most GT cars. The beauty is in the level of adjustment available. Race car for the road and all that.
Agree!
I firmly believe it takes a lot to reach the
out of the box
limit on these Porsche GT cars… the best investment is definitely seat time & setup!
Mine has finally made it off the boat and to PCM for delivery in a day or two
😁
, so about a week from the boat berthing to getting it to the dealership, which I'm pretty grateful for. Thanks for the tips that alleviated the impatience and helped me know where the car actually was!
Pic from my run-in trip over the last couple of days. Didn't notice the mural behind the car when I parked, but seemed like a photo I had to take when I came back
🙂
Out of curiosity, what tyres are delivered on the 4RS from factory. I've seen both Dunlops and Michelins in various photos. Is this region specific or simply whatever the factory has in stock at the time (luck of the draw)?
I'd really prefer Michelin Cup2s on mine.
Thanks
@cafe_racer
. Are they the Cup2 connect? The newer Cup2 version has a different compound with improved tread wear rating that has increased from 180 to 240.
My 4RS was delivered with Dunlops and my butt meter tells me the car rides a lot better than Cup2s. Based on this experience, I plan to put the Dunlops on my GT3T when the Cups are done.
Thanks
@WGA
, very interesting. I might check out the Dunlops again (never been a fan but maybe they've improved).
Looks like luck of the draw when it comes to factory tyres!
I rate the dunlops
tyre delivered consistent feel/times even after multiple back to back hot laps.
im on ao52s now and they’re skittish…faster but they don’t seem to old the pace beyond one or two laps.
On a separate issue, I think I’ve gone too far with the camber. 3.4 degrees front and 3.1 rear.
I couldn’t even touch the inside of the rears after a few laps because they were that hot, with the outsides being noticeably less hot. And I’m struggling to turn hard or fast enough to touch the last 5mm (the very edge of the tread) on the outside of the tyres.
car is driven between home and track, nowhere else at this point. So, leave as is and find some new lines/cornering speed, or dial back to say 3 and 2.5?
A pyrometer tells all- but also doing pressures and temps are only accurate after a hot lap and not done by the driver , if you do a cool down and temps and pressures done by the driver it won’t be accurate.
Time will tell with wear of course but it’s all a compromise- 3.5/3 for a road car at track isn’t going to be ideal for road. Maybe decide how much time on track and how much time on road you’re spending and go from there- back it off if you’re on road more.
Depends on the track you are driving a bit right? I’m not good at this stuff but noticed I was wearing them a lot faster at PI vs sandown so far as tyre temps on the shoulders.
Over 4.5 years since my EOI on the GT4RS was put in and almost 2 years since my order was put in the system, my 4RS finally arrived at the dealer. Got to unwrap it yesterday, delivery is booked in for Monday then 1-2 week wait for PPF before I get to put some kms on it.
Dealer told me to keep it under 7000rpm for 1500km. I followed the Preuninger method, 5000rpm max for 500km then added 500 rpms every 150km or so before full beans 9000rpm after 1500km.
I had the oil and filter changed just after 1500km. Not required by Porsche but makes sense to me.
I can only tell you how I personally do it, or how we do it at Weissach – for the first 500 kilometres or 300 miles, we don’t drive that car car ever over 5000 rpm, never. From then on, every 200 kilometres, we up the rpms by 500, so we end up at 1300, 1400 kilometres at the threshold before we can really go full throttle, at 800 or 900 miles. He then went on that this procedure was really important for the GT3 RS engines given their more «delicate rings - and how important this break in really is for any of their engines.
Why do people feel compelled to ignore the running in recommendations in the manual which are very generous IMHO. Max 7000rpm for first 1,500kms!
You even get a prompt in dashboard screen to follow the instructions every time you start the car under 1500kms.
Everybody quotes AP but his was a generalised recommendation made a few years ago regarding a different car and is less generous than the manual.
Thank you. This is why I asked for a copy of it, I don't have my car yet so don't have a copy of the manual. 7000rpm is awesome. GT4 only went to 7800rpm so that's not even missing much
- some guys overseas have manuals that say 3,000km run in and 4,000rpm limit
😲
Apparently Porsche issued a correction to say 1,500km is correct - never trust a printed manual
😂
- AP advice is more conservative with 5k not 7k limit initially. Doesn’t make much difference, particularly if you smash out the kms in a day or 2
- AP provides detail on how you build up from 5,000 to 9,000, the manual doesn’t - so it is 7000rpm all the way to 1,500km then 9,000rpm?
- I didn’t get any “run-in program” messages on the dash, not once
probably immaterial whichever way you do it
🤷♂️
@WGA
I assume you didn’t change oil after run in given that’s not in the manual? That just seems strange to me so I changed it as a precaution.
I notice in the picture above it states miles first with kms in brackets so this is likely a photo from a U.S.A. manual where they have always published very conservative run-in numbers compared to ROW due to their extremely litigious nature.
Strange. I got an “observe run in’ message on my dash every time I started the car. It magically disappeared after 1,500kms.
Correct, I didnt change oil after run-in. Indeed, still has the original oil 3,500 kms in.
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a42347494/ultimate-porsche-boxster-break-in/
I honestly believe if Porsche put in writing no more than 7k for the first 1500kms then free to let it run, and no oil change required until the recommended interval all will be fine.
From there it’s up to you and what ever you feel comfortable with as I said I felt more comfortable with a more conservative approach one that aligned with my understanding. Dropping the oil after the 1500km run in was another process that aligned with my knowledge on the subject.
At the end of the day your the one who decides and one can’t be frowned upon for running in as per the manufactures manual.
I attached an article from Matt Farrah the smoking tire which outlines another view on the break in process for his Deman 4.5L build.
Run in periods are complete bullshit designed to save the manufacturers arse incase they made a mistake during manufacturing that causes a failure that ultimately injures or kills the occupants.
They have zero to do with the longevity of the engine.
Either way they're liable, not you under Australian consumer law. As such whether you observe them is up to you.
Here is a picture I have taken the manual which came with my car. Also asked my dealer yesterday during delivery if an oil change at 1500kms was needed, the reply from the service manager was not to worry about it
Certainly a few of the overseas owners claim to have flogged them off the showroom floor. For me, a day or 2 of inconvenience running in and an oil change that’s not strictly needed is an old school approach that provides me with peace of mind. And the anticipation builds slowly as you get through the kms and can finally boot it.
you claim there is no benefit, no need and you might be right, but we’ll never really know. There is very little downside to running in and it makes me feel like I’m being mechanically sympathetic to a special car
🤷♂️
. AP also says these engines DO require run in and at Weissach they have their way of doing it. Perhaps you don’t believe him but again, little downside so why not…..
And I don’t fancy taking Porsche to court to argue for an engine replacement because I thought I knew better and ignored the run in advice that’s in the manual and advised by the dealer.
same as mine, same as
@WGA
posted above on Friday. Dealer also told me oil change not needed but that most owners do it anyway, as a precaution.
At the end of the day, each to their own…….Do what feels right for you.
A bit of foreplay before taking it to max revs is always fun. I did 1500 k's in a couple of days before taking it on track. Then did an oil change and had the oil tested, oil was all good, so probably unnecessary.
The other reason for run in periods is to scare the customer into driving it steady until the customer is familiar with the vehicle before they open it up. I have a number of engineering mates who work in the auto industry. For their own cars they drive em like they stole em off the showroom floor. Doing it properly will improve the engine life and reduce life time oil consumption. Most engine builders do similar. Wait till warm and then do pulls. Change oil after about 200km of that.
Picked this up from PPF yesterday and ready for some kms. Wrapped the roof in carbon to match the hood and wing, and added some custom blue 992 3RS style decals to match the wheels.
Spot on.
"This precision machine that we've built somehow will be more precise if you baby it for an arbitrary amount of time" - absolute rubbish.
Anyway, if you want to do it more power to you, I just hate misinformation in general.
I have been told the same thing from a top engine builder. Race engines, beyond the first 20 mins bedding in the rings and an initial oil change, get flogged out of the box. It makes no difference to the engine. That said, if I had invested a huge amount of money on one of these cars, I would still probably play the game, even though in my head I know it is bollocks.
Good luck with the sale
@cafe_racer
This would have to be the sharpest priced 4RS to date and looks great with the subtle tweaks you made. Someone ought to grab it quick.
Oh, he clearly hankers for something a bit slower……
🤣
(watch him pass me on track in a GT3 now I’ve said that….
😂
)
Thanks for the positive feedback all, we shall see what is next, I assume it'll be some kind of P-Car. I am going to do some karting this year, slightly less hp
😀
Wow- you have used it more than the vast majority and have openly shared all your knowledge and mods freely with the group. Best wishes for whatever you are jumping into next.
Sorry to hear you are selling your 4RS. You were certainly the fastest 4RS on track that I have seen so far! I won't have much, or indeed anything, to add on car setup details considering I am still 4 secs behind your best time at PI! The size of my cojones and my age are all against me!
Do we think there will be a MY25 GT4RS or will MY24 extend until August when the last of these cars will be produced for aus?
For some reason, MY24 started on 1st June last year and it seems a bit unusual to me for a MY to extend over 15 months.
The jury is still out on that. The new EU June 2020 Cyber Security regulations will come into effect in Europe, Japan, and South Korea from July 2024 which means the end of the 718 Boxster and Cayman in those markets. However, for selected markets that are not affected by the regulations, they will continue to build and sell the 718 until 2025 at least. But, But, But..... while Australia is not subject to these regulations, it just may end up being collateral damage given it would be one of only a handful of small RHD markets left for the 718. So the question is will Porsche bother to manufacture just a handful of RHD cars for those markets?
What I've been advised is that August is end of the line for manufacture of all petrol 718 cars targeting Australia. This would result in there being a 12-18 month gap where Porsche Aus have no Caymans to sell until the eVs arrive, and it would also mean that the 4RS Spyder would have had a very short (~12 month) availability down under.
I just had to bring myself up to speed...
If it aint the treehuggers killing ICE cars then it's the politicians.
New automotive cybersecurity regulation on the horizon
From July 2024, UN
155
/
156
(as set out by
UNECE WP.29
) will require all original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their supply chains to include multi-layered cybersecurity solutions to protect against current and future cyberattacks. It is the first-ever regulation requiring vehicle type approval with regards to cybersecurity, and vehicles under development need to comply with these new regulations, from development and production through to customer-use. Failure to do so could lead to vehicle production being shut down.
I have heard the same thing. From what we were told, Aug 24 will be the end for the 718 RS in Australia and all cars produced up to August must be delivered before 31 December 2024 here.
Yes, which is why I couldn't get one. I haven't been told exactly how many cars each dealer is getting, but the response was 'only a couple' when I asked. Remains to be seen if that is true.
Non-numbered limited edition.
Thanks for sharing that, it’s very close!
I was never planning on going for black as upkeep is a royal pain (PPF is a must) and I do love a good metallic finish, but I just couldn’t get over the carbon bonnet looking like a bolt on when going with the weissach pack. Other than PTS, the only standard colour that best integrates the bonnet with the car is black to make it look more cohesive. It would have been nice to be able to have the bonnet painted as a free weissach option like on the Spyder RS.
I’m planning to go with the standard dark grey wheels to add just a bit of contrast and better match the carbon bits. I think those black wheels get lost in a sea of black and are better suited to lighter paint colours.
You make a valid point. A bonnet stripe helps reduce this to some extent and you are quite right that a non-WP would remove this effect altogether. I appreciate that many customers actually like the contrast difference between the bonnet and fenders, and that this is a personal taste thing.
I suspect that Porsche had some similar feedback to mine post release of the coupe, and hence decided to offer WP with a painted bonnet no cost option on the Spyder RS.
It's all about trade offs. I quite like all the carbon bits and interior trim changes that the weissach pack offers so adapted the paint colour to best match the carbon bonnet of the WP.
Few false starts with the off market process, so have gone old school. Now up on carsales!
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/porsche-718-2022/sse-ad-16742593/
Thanks all, I’ve had a great time with the car!
I prefer to go in with it well priced off the bat rather than have it sit and reduce over time. I’m getting the same alerts for lots of cars right now.
I know one you can try out for a minor fee. 996 RS swap?
😂
I’d say in excess of 200. The goal was 7000, they mentioned It at their AGM. They also brought in a similar number of the previous generation GT4s, and it felt like half the forum had one at the time.
It won’t matter a lick how many they sold, in 5-7 years you’ll struggle to get a good one.
Interesting view and opposite to what I expected. Porsches if serviced seem to me to be well engineered and last really well.
With them being readily available (take your pick from 15 second hand being listed tonight and it keeps growing) what’s the thought behind that?
I mean that getting one in a decent spec that isn’t white, black, or silver, will be very difficult in 5-7 years time from now. Also over time the number of cars on the market decreases. Plus the better optioned cars are the ones that people tend to hang onto.
If white is your poison more power! But I’ll wrap anything white.
This wasn’t a reliability dig in any shape or form.
I reckon some people buy an RS for bragging rights and then decide too harsh or too noisy for taking the wife to lunch on a Sunday. I’ve read garbage on FB about guys needing to wear earplugs and complaining about the ride. Seriously………exhaust closed and cruising revs it’s not noisy at all. And the ride is fine……it’s an RS, I’d be disappointed if it was comfy and quiet. It’s all relative.
Some people need to admit that they actually desire a 996 cab for winery runs rather than an RS……..so Carsales beckons
🤣
.
It feels like about 30% were bought to flip or on a whim because money was cheap.
You're absolutely right though, the contingent that needed to win cars and coffee should have bought a Turbo S, but the internet told them that the RS (GT4/3) was the most desirable.
Totally agreed, car is super easy to get along with at cruising speeds. I drove mine to bathurst after a bunch of serious rain last year, front axle lift over some potholes was all that was required. It has carplay and good a/c. What else do you need. That and the fact its then a weapon on track!
For manthey pads and lines I was charged $5200 inc fitment.
set of pads was $1578 front and $1380 rear.
I found the MR pads a bit noisy so was going to pop a set of pagid RS29’s in to replace them once worn.
Have a few 4RS bits and pieces for sale. If anyone is keen shoot me a PM
bbi cage, it’s painted satin aurum for full boy racer spec. Will fit a gt4 and a gt4RS new and never installed
dundon front and rear camber plates, new in box never installed
pagid front and rear pads RS29’s, again new in box
I’ll get some pics up and pop it in a for sale section thread tomorrow
Great to see another one on track because I am asking myself where the hell are they all?
There have been 30+ 4RSs delivered in Victoria alone and yet I have only seen 5 different 4RSs at track day events in the past 12 months. The bulk of the cars are obviously going to people who have no real interest in driving. Kind of makes a mockery of the dealers stated intent of wanting to sell these cars to people who will drive them as intended. There is another track day at PI next week and yet there is only one other 4RS attending.
I know it's a hackneyed question but why would anyone buy one and not take it on track.
There are quite a few that track them in Sydney. We had a private track night with 35 cars last Thursday and there were 4 x 4RSs on track.
Probably doesn't help that Vic guys have to travel so far to get to the track.
PI is 3+ hours and Sandown 2+ hours travel time for me. So unless you have a car trailer, its a bit unrealistic to track it too often without clocking up hundreds of highway kms before you even get to track it.
Road kill at 200kph. Hit a pesky Cape Barren Goose at the end of the PI main straight at 200kph! I count my lucky stars because the damage could have been a whole lot worse. As it turned out it's mostly cosmetic. No damage to radiators, etc. Whew!
Boof Road Kill.mov
They’re a bloody menace at PI. I copped one turn 12, years ago - it took off just as I hit the apex before coming onto the main straight and it bounced off the windscreen and made a hell of a thud but didn’t break it. That was in a Datsun 1600 years ago.
I blame concern for geese for being 3s off the fastest 4RS times
🤣
Those two birds just kept waddling across oblivious to the world. Car not loud enough?? Maybe because the car is white they thought it their long lost cousin?
The front splitter really lived up to its name.
Glad it is only cosmetic. New front bar and right indicator. Maybe can even keep the splitter.
You cant kill a Datto 1600. My first car... many many years ago.
Years ago at Sandown a guy in a clubman with a small aero screen copped a seagull in the chest on the main straight. Fair to say that took the wind out of him…..
😬
.
Copping a goose on a bike would be next level dangerous.
Not that I'm aware of.
Yeah they're ok. The innocent party in the video ended up in hospital with some injuries but nothing major, and Iannone continued on.
There's been quite a few riders that have hit birds at PI, also one bloke I remember hit a roo or a wallaby through the hay shed. That was messy, but he lived...the animal however, probably safe to say getting torpedoed by 250kg at 180k did not
Happens at the Isle of Man too.
Top guy Ian Hutchinson headbutts a bird at warp speed
I've had some history at PI with our feathered friends! Double bird strike on the main straight at over 200kmh... I've also been to a track day there where a 997 turbo wiped out it's front screen at approx 240kmh approaching the braking zone for turn 1.
If it's not wildlife, it's wayward vehicles or panels at the island... Never a dull moment!
Watching that video brings back memories... One year I was the very next car coming into the turn 1 braking zone after a Nissan GTR R35 race car had just lost all of it's undercarriage panels thanks to some dodgy brake ducting put together by the race team.
Came over the crest at about 250kmh and had a good second to decide how I was going to get to the other side of those panels in 1 piece! My options were to try and go around either way which would have ended in a wreck or go through and pray.
Decided to go heavy on the brakes to put the splitter as close to the ground as possible, positioned the car center to the panels and effectively hit the panels, scooping them off the brake line for those following. Thanks to PPF I was lucky enough to walk away unscathed
🙏
🤙
Not a lesson you want to learn at those speeds with a split second to decide. Watching your video reminded me how little time one gets to decide going into that corner!
Comically, the first thing my wife said after seeing the video was not "how is the car" or "how did you feel"...but was "I hope it didn't have babies in a nest somewhere".
My 4RS is now on a ship heading down under (woot!)
However, I can't seem to find any factory images as part of "delivery stage 4", even when looking into the my porsche source pages. (e.g. "productionImages" is blank). It's been a few weeks after production has completed so I would assume the images should be appearing by now?
Did any other 4RS owners manage to get factory production images and if so, how long did they take to appear in My Porsche?
All the current 4RSes and Spyder RSes are being produced in Osnabruck whereas the initial 4RS production run was in Zuffenhausen. Osnabruck currently doesn't have any cameras set up to do production images like Zuffenhausen, thus both your 4RS and my SRS have no photos
BTW When did your 4RS's ship leave port?
I got images from the production line of my car but it wasn't until well after production was complete. So you may still get them.
.....however, Porsche shifted production of the 718 platform to Onsabruck in Austria last year. Not sure if it was all production or if some production stayed in Stuttgart. You can tell where it was built from the VIN number which I assume you already have. If there is a "S" in the VIN, it's Stuttgart. If there is a "K", it's Onsabruck.
If it is an Onsabruck build, then AFAIK, it is not equipped with the cameras to take photos of the cars on the production line and match them with the VIN,.....which means that people don't get production line photos of Onsabruck cars.....but I could e wrong on this.
Mines on a ship and just left Sth Africa for Australia, still no pics so I think the above
⬆️
reply seems very accurate. My mates’ 3RS’ recently all got pics!
😢
[Image-only or quote-only post; no author-written text.]

OK, it is an Onsabruck built car.
My VIN has
ZPS (Z=ROW car, P= Model year 2023, S=Factory Stuttgart)
whereas you have
ZRK (Z=ROW car, R=Model year 2024, K=Factory Onsabruck)
Going a bit off topic, but why do a lot of people blur out the VIN of their car when they post things online? I was a bit surprised when Nik/Spartan just screenshotted the whole VIN, but then I realised I have no idea what is wrong with doing that.
Also is the Porsche factory Onsabruck or Osnabruck? I thought it was Osnabruck, but
@WGA
you are usually quite detail focussed (eg Carrara White Metallic) and have me questioning myself...
It's generally to avoid scammers using/copying the car's ID - In a similar way to obscuring Number plates. The scum that plan to scam people, will use anyone else’s genuine ID to pretend they own that car to solicit a buyer in a fraudulent sale.
Yep, very common practise for rebirthing stolen cars. They steal a car, then transfer the VIN plate from a wrecked one they bought 'legitimately' cheap. Most end up interstate or overseas
I had given up hope of an allocation but got the call last week. Had made myself forget about it so as to not be disappointed, now I’m going to have to start seriously thinking about colour / weissach vs not (always thought not personally, but will I worry I’m missing out…). Good decisions to have to make!!
There is a guy in the US who has access to VINs and pretty diligently logs the productions numbers. As of April 1st this year, they have made in excess of 5,000 4RSs with another 18months of production to go...at least. By the end of production it should be somewhere between 7-8000 cars. That will make it close to the highest production model of the 718 range.
My VIN has a K in it so no build photos for me...
Thanks folks, that clears things up!
That's great news! What is the target build month for your allocation?
Sounds like it! Not great for resale, but I great for enthusiasts.
I never got an email or link to check the status of my order! Where did you guys get it from? Is there a website I can register with?
Huge congrats. When do you have your Change Freeze Point? Mine is 31/5. I will not be going with the Weissach as the exposed carbon reminds me too much of the JDM scene (not great for someone in hiw 50s), and it adds no noticeable enhancements other than 10kg savings if I get the magnesium wheels (which I won't given the fear of curbing them later as will be letting the son use the car from time to time and curbing them may cause me to disown him).
Porsche will send you an email with a link that will go straight to your order once it has been confirmed. You can also find it in MyPorsche app along with any other Porsches you may currently own if you already have the app from another car.
Thanks. Same to you!
My change point is also 31/5 with a July build.
I also didn’t go Weissach because I personally prefer the look of the painted bonnet in my spec and didn’t see the value for the bits I did like. Good to have variety out there!
Now my last decision will be closer to delivery and whether I get dealer to install
the drivers racing harness or not. What have the majority here done? I plan on doing some track days in it, but I’m also going to drive it regularly on the street - not a daily, but still 1-2x a week at least. One car I sat in with the harness installed I found the bottom belts / buckle to be a bit annoying feeling it under thighs (when using seatbelt for road use). But I didn’t spend ages playing around to see if could improve it or not..
I have 2 harnesses in mine. I just “do the tuck”. The shoulder belts tuck over the wings of the seat and the waist belts tuck over the side bolsters. The buckle pulls down through the hole in the seat and lays flat on the carpet underneath. It’s a 2 minute job to pull seat cushion up (Velcro) with one hand while feeding the buckle back up through the seat base with the other hand. The seats are essentially clear of the harness belts for road use. Non issue.
You should get the dealer to install the harnesses. If you don't, you will regret it once you hit the track.
For road riving, I simply pull the shoulder straps through the holes in the top of the seat and let them hang behind seat against the rear firewall. If you are pendantic, you can use some velcro to roll them up into a neat ball but I don't bother.
For the lap belts, I pull the outside strap through the side bolster hole in the seat and let them sit on the floor beside the seat. The inside lap belt is a bit tricker because it is hard up against the tunnel with next to no room to pull it through the bolster hole....so I loosen off the belt almost as far as it will go and then tuck the belt up over the side of the bolster onto the floor. This put the belts completely out of the way as if they are not there.
Thanks DJM and WGA for the harness info - very helpful! The one I sat in (photo attached) had the buckle hanging on the seat so was quite noticeable sitting, which is what gave me the doubts. But how you guys describe sound like it should be a non issue!
Is it true that the 4RS will be made through 2024 and 2025? I had given up too but have sent another enquiry just to be sure and letting them know I'm willing to wait til next year if need be.
Last production is 24 model, August of this year because of regulatory reasons. I was offered one two weeks back out of the blue so if you ring around you may get one before production ends.
Edit: to be clear production will continue for the US market and other ROW markets outside of Europe, PCA just can't comply them after January 1, 2025 here. Japan and a couple of other markets have a similar issue and will also cease production.

Everything
@sleazius
said is correct, bar a small correction on the date. 1 March 2025 rather than 1 Jan 2025 is the cutoff date for the compliance of a certain type of autonomous emergency braking that the 718 (and ICE Macan) can't comply with, therefore can't be sold as new cars.
Normally I couldn't be bothered to correct something so small, but in your case, those 2 months might actually make a difference.
Thanks
@sleazius
and
@Ian718
... Sent the question... Don't expect there will be a slot but no dramas... Looks like the second hand market would be an option in the future as there seem to be more GT4RS than GT4s and GTS 4.0s!
Thanks
@Ian718
- was just relaying what the dealer told me, always good to get clarity however!
Meanwhile the European stop sale is due to emissions regulation that was supposed to go into force in 2025 but has now been pushed off until 2030. Brussels is doing their level best to destroy the german car industry with their flip flopping.
Good luck LuNguyen, I hope you get an allocation. As others have said my dealership said August last production for Aus.. I had been told no joy re: allocation and then got a call 2wks later out of blue saying Porsche AUS has given them allocations unexpectedly and it’s mine if I want it.
Yep that crutch strap can be pulled through and lay under the seat entirely. No need to have it flapping about near the crown jewels
😂
. I’ve had my car about 9 months and I’ll pulled the buckle up for 3 track days, the rest of the 7000 or so, buckles are tucked below the seat and no issue.
im yet to convince anyone to ride with me on track so the passenger harness remains tucked and never used
🤷♂️
Have any 4RS or GT4 owners used lightweight Lithium batteries to drop some weight? (asking for my incoming Spyder RS, but this thread has a lot more traffic and what works in a 4RS is going to work in an SRS)
I want to: (1) Not throw error codes and (2) Weigh as little as possible… and obviously these two principles are conflicting
I had previously been considering the 60Ah version of this battery.
https://www.lithiumax.com.au/product-page/lithiumax-gen4-restart10-bluetooth-1200ca-120ah-pbeq-starter-battery
I posed the question on the Australian GT4/4RS FB group, and 1 person has unfortunately used that specific battery (60Ah Lithiumax Restart10) and it threw error codes on his GT4MR (but surprisingly it didn’t throw codes on his 991.2 3RS).
The Rennlist crowd seems to have a lot of people using the H6 60Ah antigravity
https://antigravitybatteries.com/products/starter-batteries/automotive/ag-h6-rs/
. Zero reports of error codes, but I think I need to get it shipped from the US…
Then there is the maximally expensive end of the market -
https://en.liteblox.de/shop/liteblox-lb28xx-lightweight-battery-for-performance-and-motorsport/
Does anyone have any real world testing of lightweight Lithium batteries here?
Even if you dropped 20kg from the car what does it matter? Get on the treadmill, go to the bathroom before every drive, wear only board shorts and crocs and don’t fill up past 1/3 of a tank- you’ll feel faster.
I know you guys are joking… but at timed track events I actually do start with under 1/4 tank, remove frunk pods, air pump, drain wiper fluid, etc (ie all the ‘no cost’ weight savings). Each small weight change (like a Li battery) doesn’t matter individually, but adding them up can be significant to lap times!
Of course on the street, you are 100% right
Try it with and without weight loss and report back on lap times. I’m tipping bugger all difference.
I’m definitely not a pro driver so I struggle to get consistent laps within half a second of each other so I don’t imagine saving a little weight will show up on the lap times .
Reminds me of a mate who would spend $$$$$ to get super lightweight pedals for his push bike to ride down beach road 0.000001% faster
🤷♂️
I’m now at a level that I can put down pretty consistent times on my hotlaps. Not consistent enough to notice a small weight difference, but passenger vs no passenger laps on private Luddenham trackdays is about 0.5s (51.x second laps).
I hold the majority of the lap records for my power to weight ratio class at the PCNSW supersprints. And it did hurt me to miss a record I don’t hold by 0.01sec
And it does make me wonder ‘what if’?
To me the Lithium battery is actually one of the 'low hanging fruit' kg/$ weight saving options. There are much more expensive ways to lose weight!
You must be quick! I’ve got a baby seat in the passenger side of my 996 gt3 right now and can’t tell the difference. To me tyres and setup have always been #1 for lap times
I know you are joking when you say you empty your washer fluid. I recall a YouTube video comparing hill climb on a pushie with a drink bottle full vs empty. Was interesting data.
If 0.5 sec with passenger and let’s go conservative 80kg for the friend, is a 20kg saving 0.125?
I do hope you’re joking about emptying washer fluid. Is your car radio delete? You know how many speakers are in the car? Tyres filled with helium? Got the grinder out on the body deadener? Shaved your new tyres? And back to the washer fluid, have you thought about removing the wipers when you get to the track? All adds up.
Don’t get me wrong, I get it. I shaved 45kg from a car to get it to 780kg with 90hp at the wheels and being 96kg myself there was a big impact on what I stripped out.
With your car I would suggest driver coaching or a race car, not a road car. I know someone who is the man to beat and stood 6”4 like me but another 35kg on me. How did such a heavy weight be the quickest?
Oh, another trick it to remove your carpet mats and pedal rubbers.
1 litre of water equals 1kg, and most washer bottles hold probably 3 or 4 litres, so removing the water has gotta be worth at least 000000.001 per lap
👍
😉
If people are serious about reducing their lap times, removing any unnecessary weight is the first thing on the list, not spending $28,000 on lightweight braking systems. That's why there's cars like Cup cars and the GT4 Clubs port available.
Increasing one's depth perception of braking later (aka bigger balls), using the loud pedal through and on the exit of corners earlier by .5sec per corner, better gear changes at the correct rpm in the sweet spot of torque (aka you don't need to rev the shit out of it to the limiter at every gear change). Pick a section of the track to focus on to improve every lap, then move to another section to focus on. Professional suspension set up advice, tyre pressures, get some professional tuition...etc. The list is long, and so is the time to tie it all together.
You can't possibly improve lap times when you're only doing the occasional track day every 2 or 3 months if you're a 'beginner' in a street car, as you take half the day getting back up to speed. Throwing money at go fast parts in a GT4 or GT3 might work in your head, yet 9 times out of 10 the car is probably better than you are as a driver.
I'm not a great driver to offer driving advice and have never done a track day in a car (bikes, thousands of laps so I have half an idea which does help car driving), yet the one thing I'd highly recommend (again, if you're serious) is get a 125 Rotax Kart or similar...preferably a gearbox one like a KZ or 2 speed DD2. That will hone your driving skills to reduce your lap times, be a shitload cheaper and probably more fun. You'll probably forget about driving your car on a track
😁
Name an F1 driver who hasn't raced Karts and occasionally still do drive them!
Above all, I'd be getting tuition from a professional driver first, then see how far down the rabbit hole you wish to go/afford
Dribble over
👍
From how I read it, it seems like Ian has probably already done all of those things and is a lot quicker than most people when tracking his car. Definitely the law of diminishing returns, but once you’re at the pointy end that’s what it takes I guess.
I do some karting (at a club level, not major state / nationals) and some of the top guys there are taking out a few bolts and washers for weight saving to keep to their minimum class weight! I know the percentage of total is different etc etc, but I guess same principles…
So good luck and good on you Ian, I say. Sorry I don’t have any advice re: the batteries though!
As the instructor at Master GT4 RS said to me..."If I can go 2 secs faster than you around this track in a stock car, you don't need to do any weight saving tricks, sticky tyres, etc....you just need more instruction/seat time".
It was a general rule for anyone really
👍
Yep, many of the guys I raced against in Karts were always chasing their weight limits to gain an advantage....so I just braked later
😁
Yes I 100% agree with everything you said! I guess I was thinking maybe Ian has already done all of those things everyone should do first before looking at things that have very diminishing returns like weight saving etc.
I enjoy my sweets too much haha so just accept that I’m a bit over and focus more on seat time like you said. I’m still nowhere near good enough to maximise my driving to move on to expensive mods!
Further to this I was happy with a light weight battery in both cars, until I ran into the previous linked issue. I have ended up settling back on the stock battery for now.
I think for $1000 to save 20kg is a pretty amazing outcome considering the titanium cage costs around $7000 and only saves 6kg!
After a track day it took me 2:15hrs to clean my car the next day. 45 mins on the wheels alone.
Back was killing me afterwards from removing all the rubber down the side of the car.
Almost makes me think the Porsche Experience days are worth it just for not having to clean myself.
I just wanted to say thanks for the tip on the Mothers Racing Rubber Remover. I had my first trackday in the new car yesterday, and the Mothers R3 worked like magic this morning!!
My car just finished production yesterday - getting exciting! My Porsche app has delivery estimate as mid October - late December range.
If they’re still using Hoegh shipping from Bremerhaven then looks like it’ll most likely arrive in port early-mid November hopefully.
Congrats! Cars finished in July ended up doing a world tour, Hopefully yours takes a far more direct route.
Hoegh Detroit is going via the EU, UK, US, NZ, and finally Australia starting in Melbourne. Even though it already departed it only gets to Brisbane 18/10.
Ahhh that is convoluted! The Hoegh track my cargo site just updated when I enter my VIN today, to show it scheduled for the Hoegh Tracer, departing 31/8 and ETA early October in the port. Will see if that eventuates or not!
Speculators getting allocations, lots of cars sold, monies tight and GT cars can tend to change hands reasonably often there not for everyone. It will be interesting to see where they settle I’d imagine the potential buyers will be watching the 991.1. & 2 GT3 as well.
It was too capable to be enjoyable on the roads. Which left it as a track car. And if it’s track only, may as well get a dedicated race car. I used to daily it and it was great. Ample storage. Cup holders and apple carplay.
I found value in an engaging driving experience over a fast one though as I realised no one cares about my lap times. Hence the 996 gt3. Manual, no traction control or Nannie’s to save me. It’s old enough that it still has that classic 911 feel to driving (weigh transfer is fun to mess with). But new enough that it has enough power to break traction.
You’re all too soft (Misha included)! The noise is awesome, it makes the car and you choose the volume with your right foot and the exhaust valve button
🤷♂️
Clearly some RS buyers should buy GTS things if quiet and comfy is the brief. Me, I sold my 992 GTS when the 4RS arrived and I ain’t going back
🤣
.
All about tools for the job isn’t it?
I don’t really subscribe to cars being “good all rounders”, those are often compromised and not good at any one thing, just buy the one that’s right for the job you’re doing with it…
On the track with open faced helmet on I did not even need ear plugs. I think it is fine- even the 3.5 hour drive to the track was fine. More tyre noise from coarse chip than anything else.
Hi all.
Bit of a random Q - have you guys had a front mount plate installed for the number plate, or gone straight on with double sided tape?
I’m taking delivery soon and sales guy recommending to place the front mount for the plate as they’ve found they fall off easily with tape. Not sure I’ve see gt4rs with the mount installed to see how it looks.
Cheers
As
@wirthO
mentioned, 3M tape (especially the industrial type) I've used before with no problems
👍
Sales guy is just upselling for extra parts and labour
😁
Picked up the car earlier this week. I was laughing to myself the whole drive home - this thing is ridiculous! (In all the right ways). The noises - engine / induction / gearbox, even when using part throttle and at <5k rpm (or idling for that matter!) are amazing. I’ve not driven non GT / RS Porsche PDK, but I can’t imagine them being so “rough” and unhappy at low speed (which I love). In fact I took my mate for a spin who has a 992 GTS and he was surprised at the relative lack on smoothness.
1) Not going to start a break in debate haha but I’ll probably follow the AP graded method for first 1500km like a few do. I’ve realised this will be in manual mode only (the plan anyway - my daily is a civic type R for my manual fix) as left to its own devices, at least when using only half throttle etc, it changes very early and is often sitting at <2k rpm. I think labouring at low revs in high gears is prob worse than redlining.
2) Are most ppl following the tyre placard for cup 2 tyre pressures (30psi front and 34psi rear cold) on street?
3) out of interest, what is everybody’s typical oil / water temp on day to day driving?
can’t wait to run it in and get it on some nice roads and the track!
A couple of comments.
If left in auto, the engine will not labour because the PDK will automatically change down if that is happening. If the car is sitting below <2K rpm, it's because it is happy to do so.
For break-in, just follow the rules in the owners manual. It is much simpler than the mythical AP rules...and....it gives you far more latitude in the rev range.
The cold tyre pressures on the placard are fine for street driving. For the track, the ideal pressures are the same except HOT rather than COLD which means starting a track session at around 25 cold .
Oil/water temps are mid-high 90s.
👆🏻
what he said
The only comment I’d add is on light throttle I do feel like PDK shuffles up through gears too early, I often find myself flicking back a gear or 2 to a gear that feels more appropriate. It’s not a problem, and it won’t be doing any harm, just an observation or preference.
Thanks everyone
: ) Loving this car so much, it’s everything I’d hoped for.
A premature and possibly stupid question, but just checking that Porsche Australia offer the option to purchase extended warranty on RS models? T
here is some conflicting info in the US market at least about RS models, although I’m assuming / hoping that that’s market specific.
Driven a few GT4RS's recently on the track. Noise is ear shattering insane at 8-9k. I suspect that's one of the major reasons a lot are on car sales at the moment. The only car I've driven on Porsche track days where they give you a set of headphones. A lot louder than a GT3RS which sounds muted in comparison.
Anyone driven a GT4 & GT4RS back to back? Wondering what a GT4 Manual would be on the fun factor scale compared with the PDK RS.
If you are driving on track at 8-9k rpm then you most likely have a helmet on and then the noise is quite ok. On the road where you
mostly
drive at legal speeds, the noise is no louder than a regular Cayman.
So I suspect the number of cars for sale right now has nothing to do with the noise and mostly to do with the fact that a lot of people bought them who can't really afford them and with used car prices on 4 RS's dropping, they are trying to bail before they get seriously burnt.
I’d tend to agree with that WGA. Although I’m sure there’s a small number who find it too noisy (which surprises me as that was one of the big selling points of the car) plus some who will be trading up to GT3/GT3RS maybe.
I’ll be keeping mine long term (it’s the swansong to the ICE performance car for me), but will be interesting to see what longer term resale looks like once production ends in years to come. Definitely not GT3 etc levels I’m sure but whether they plateau and hold a bit or continue to drop. Time will tell.
Not back to back but I had a 981 GT4 a few years ago and it’s chalk and cheese to 4RS. I found the 385hp GT4 engine pretty underwhelming and the tall gearing didn’t help. The full fruit 500hp GT engine with close stacked 7 speed is hilarious. No comparison and probably 4-5 seconds faster around Phillip Island. Much more exciting and engaging, PDK included.
Been a few GT4RS'S sold recently. Or so I thought. PCM had two high spec cars, now PCSS have them. Cheekly priced at about $16-17k more.
Interesting to see how this car goes today. No roll cage. Strange to configure a GT4RS without a cage esp. with weissach pack. Personally that would sort of be a deal breaker for me.
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2022-porsche-718-cayman-gt4-rs-weissach-pack-5
Porsche couldn’t supply cages for the first batch of cars so they all got delivered without. You could retro fit one easy enough but probably $10k. Glad it didn’t sell at $310k, too cheap
🤷♂️
. Carsales more like 365-370 for Weissach cars so maybe 350k is a realistic.
PCSS now has four GT4RS for sale. All for around 400k +, a couple recently acquired. So seems they must be bullish about achieving a high price.
If you're getting these primarily for track use I don't think the lack of manual is going to bother anyone.
PCSS - Now have 6 GT4RS's advertised for sale!
I think PCSS is a company owned store. Looks like they have be acquiring a few RS's from other dealers. All priced at the top end of the market. Doubt if they will move many quickly at the prices they are asking, so what gives?
Sadly, that's the market for trade-ins right now. Versus the fraught decision of a private sale which would probably net you a high $200K to low $300K number. But it could take a very long time to sell. Some private sales have been sitting on Carsales for 6+months.
I am in a similar position at the moment. I have managed to secure an allocation for a GT4 RS Clubsport from Porsche Motorsport but need to sell my GT4 RS to make the numbers add up. With so many used 4RS on the market right now, a private sale would probably only get me a low $300K vs a trade-in price of well under $300K. But I really want that Clubsport.
I got a call for a 4RS clubsport too. Amazing as about 18 months ago they said no chance and I’m low on the list. But 18 months later seems a few fell off the list! They are a great thing but am unsurprised people passing on them now as opposed to the hubris back then.
The 4RS I traded a fair while ago now is still for sale at the dealer I traded it to. Shows the market!
Yes, saw that one hence my realistic expectation of a low $300K for a private sale...although mine is a year younger....but with more kms.
Yes, at the moment, it seems that the only path to a guaranteed sale is a trade-in if I want that Clubsport.
What I don’t quite understand is the asking on a lot of the PDK 718 GT4’s … lots are mid to high 200’s! Surely a 4RS at low $300k is the better move, if you want a track car?
Asking & getting are two different things. One thing that’s the same for both - there seems to be more sellers than buyers out there. Bloody hard to move at these prices.
Definitely, however the manuals seem to be priced a good bit lower...
This is true, the cars I have seen move quickly are price at low $200k for PDK GT4.. the higher priced ones just stagnate! Have not watched too many GT4RS listings but even those seem to stagnate at mid $300k
This may be a contributing factor to the release of GT4RS Clubsports coming to market in a rush. FWIW I’m surprised they took so long to release them anyway…what’s the point of race cars not being used? I’m guessing Penske took one look at the capital they had left tied up and went…bzzzz.
Porsche Centre Melbourne motorsports being shut down.
On the topic of the number of GT4RS on market, ie heaps, I think they will sit at mid to high $300k current asks. I’d assume a 20% discount to the “when new sale price” pretty conservative….which takes them below $300k as my buy. Not trying to be inflammatory or controversial, just seems, well, logical as basis for transactions to resume.
Interesting seeing the prices on the 4RS. I have driven many Porsche’s, GT cars, boxsters, Carrera’s etc I still haven’t found a car that’s more fun to wind up to 9000rpm. The sound in the cabin is something else and very addictive. The car is definitely best experienced on the track where you can experience this properly.
Noticing the 3RS market is starting to look like the 4RS market. A lot of cars for sale pushing prices down. GT3 market seems to be holding quite strong in comparison.
It's a shame Penske were allowed to form a monopoly in Victoria and it's a bigger shame PCMM have been shut down. It was great to be able to go to your local dealership and have your car dialed in like a race car. Penske's decision is going to push clients outside the dealership network for their track needs here.
The RS markets are a byproduct of flippers and enabler dealerships... Once upon a time when numbers of these cars were limited, cars went to enthusiasts who bought them, enjoyed them for a couple of years and updated. Now they are going to speculators who are buying to sell and far too many cars are ending up on the market at the one time.
A salesperson recently tried to justify the qualification process due to the 3RS being very sort after. I pointed out that it was hard to make that argument with anywhere up to 17 cars on CS pre Xmas, many with delivery kilometers... Sort after for a flip yes, not necessarily to drive and enjoy.
I think the announcement only relates to shutting down of the Carrera Cup team not the whole department which does good business looking after customer cars.
Just had it confirmed to me by the Motorsport Technical manager that the announcement only relates to the Cup Racing team. and they will continue with technical support and maintenance.
I have it on good advice that there will likely be an exodus as a result of the motorsport decision. Without the motorsport component there's no reason for talented mechanics to hang around. They thrive on the competition and will likely seek work with race teams... If they go, so does the talent that had my car dialed in with different camber at each corner and cup car like corner balancing. It was turning laps over 3 seconds faster around Phillip Island in the hands of a pro vs the best factory setup we had found till that point...
997.2 GT3 pulling 1.42s around PI on cooked PS Cup2. I remember the pro driver saying "bring me a set of slicks on this setup and I'll show you a 1.38"... No factory trained tech will have the expertise to do what these guys are achieving for customers...
That's a good spec (although doesn't have front lift).... at a very good price....but depressing pricing prospects for my car when I plan to put on the market in the next 4-5 weeks.
Lowest price of a WP optioned car that I’ve seen. Dropped from $359k down to $324. Been sitting on car sales for quite a while. If it does not sell very quickly, prices of every other GT4RS will have to tumble with it. Will we see a sub $300k market within the years end?
Yeah...Clubsport!
I could be wrong, but I don't think these cars will drop much further than this. Indeed, once the current glut is over, I expect the cars to comeback in price when the EV version is released and we edge closer to EV Hell. At that time, they will hopefully be looked upon as the last, really feral NA mid-engined Porsche.
So if I have to sit on mine for a couple of years, I will.
My decision to buy a 4RS Clubsport now has me disappearing into a deep rabbit hole of $$$$. Some expected, some quite unexpected.
First up I had to get a trailer and tow bar for my Cayenne. I ordered a Futura Super Sport which I pick up next week. The price on these things jumps quite a bit once you add a tyre rack, winch, rock guard, spare wheel, etc.
Next up was the Clubsport spares package which was also quite a bit higher. Items like Vbox, gas bottle, air lance, windscreen tear offs, etc were in line with my expectations....but I kind of (maybe naively) expected the car to come with at least a set of slicks. Out of the box, it only comes with transport tyres. If you actually want a set of slicks to drive the thing on track, you have to buy an extra set of wheels and slick tyres....and typically owners get two sets. Thats $20,000+.
I also optionally got a passenger seat for instruction/training. The only seat they offer you is the same Recaro P 1300 GT seat as the driver...at $16,000! So I installed an FIA approved Recaro Pole Position seat for $2,000 instead. And in a bit of fun, I went for a bright red seat...now nicknamed the "hot seat".
Lastly, the wrap. Because the whole front of the car is raw fibre panels and the rear is a plain white with no topcoat, you really have to get the whole car wrapped. Currently working on a design based on the recently announced 4.2l GT3 R Rennsport (see photo). Although, this is turning out to be almost double the cost originally indicated!
Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound. It's going to be a very exciting track tool. First outing is hopefully Phillip Island Feb 6th if everything is completed by then.
Porsche are the masters at “would you like fries with that”
How do they justify delivery without tyres needed to actually drive it as intended. That’s like a burger with the bun as an optional extra……
👎🏻
And $16k for a seat, cmon, that’s just obscene.
youll soon forget that nonsense when driving in anger at PI.
Exciting day. Picked up the new trailer then headed straight over to Porsche Motorsport to collect the car! Hopefully hitting Phillip Island on Thursday for a shakedown.
GT4 RS Clubsport delivery startup.mov
Fetching info...
Shakedown day at Phillip Island yesterday. Only did about 15 laps to make sure everything was working and to get used to the car before putting it back on the trailer and heading home. Was into the 1:39s in the 2nd session without pushing too hard so there is a lot more time on the table. Looking forward to heading back to PI next month for a more focussed go.
In the meantime, it's back to the shop to get passenger seat fitted, wrap done, tweaks to the VBOX setup and collect a 3rd set of wheels and tyres.
Being a non-WP car and no-front axle lift, that's probably not too bad a price. In 2022 car, it would have cost $350K before on roads. So at $320K, that's only $30K below the new car list price after 2-3years.
Yep - suppose you're right when you look at it that way. I deleted the original post - I don't know why the font came out so BIG!
Still a lot of WP cars a couple of yrs old in the late late 300's. A few cars have sold recently, WP cars that are priced at <$340 (exc on roads) seem to be moving. Not many above that.
PCSS seem to have a lot for sale (about 1/3 of the listed cars) - they picked up a couple from Melbourne that were listed a few months ago.
Yes, as I mentioned on my Insta awhile back, that was the inspiration for the design. It's close but with a couple of tweaks. Including the colours which are Shark Blue and Carmine Red. They are different on the Rennsport car.
For those who have done track days on the standard cup 2s, how many sessions will things like tyres and brake pads normally last? I know a lot of variables, but just trying to get an estimate - going to take mine on a track day and deciding between doing a half day vs full day session.
I’ve done lots of kart racing and a bunch of formula ford laps, but will be the first time taking one of my own cars on track, hence the lack of knowledge about wear and tear.
Cheers
You should get 4-6 track days on a set of CUP 2s assuming you are running 4-5 sessions per track day.
Depending how hard you are on brakes, the pads should last around the same. Once you have burned through the first set of pads, I would strongly suggest you upgrade to the Manthey pads and brake fluid. You wont believe the difference they make...and they last longer.
Market update. Lot’s of GT4RS all for around the same price on Car Sales from one dealer PCSS. ($399 k or thereabouts) Had an interesting discussion with a sales person there.
Most of the cars are on consignment. Explains the high asking prices for most of the cars. Seems like owners have been enthusiastically listing at the same unrealistic price point. Silly when you see similar dealer cars listed $50k below & they still sitting on the market for a long time. I haven't been seeing anything moving at that price point.
Yep, no cage, but with every other dealer car around $40k more expensive sounds reasonable.
There is a $399k fever from almost every car on Car Sales. Another dropped in mix today - a yellow car - you guessed it $399k. Surprisingly a 2022 car with only 211 km on it. Never understand cars that are purchased but not driven. What was this owner trying to achieve?
So it’s a three year old car and hasn’t even used a tank of fuel….maybe he’s trying to wreck the engine with fuel that’s stuffed? I can’t fathom it either.
Yep as the add says ‘as new’ …..except the fuel & the almost expired warranty, flat spots on the tyres, dried out lube, oil sitting where it shouldn’t be, confused battery. All at the price it probably sold for in 2022.
In saying that - it’s probably fine. After seeing a sea of grey cars, I don’t mind the yellow. Sort of looks right for a GT car. I’d be interested if it was $40 k cheaper.
Finally joined the GT4RS Club yesterday. New June 24. I think a few dealers have a couple of unsold last allocation cars floating around. This car pretty well has my ideal spec. Traded my 992 in on it and got what I thought was a pretty good deal.
where did you get this one from? didn't see this one advertised on carsales or on Porsche's website?
im also in the market for a 4RS, any leads on any unsold last allocation cars?
Yep - It was a surprise to me also. Enquired about the yellow GT4RS from Willoughby & they pulled out another 3 new cars unadvertised for me to look at. The yellow car is on consignment. The other two cars they have left (brand new) - were non- WP cars. Gentian Blue, and Arctic Grey. One had ceramics from memory.
Traded my 992 in on the GT Silver WP car. Happy enough with the deal.
PCSS have 6-7 GT4RS used. Some they got from Melbourne, some on consignment.
I think if you rang around to all the dealers, you might find they have some unsold last allocation stock that they purchased on spec. If you find those, that's your best chance to get a deal on something new.
Not sure why they would have painted the ceramics brakes in black when they have everything else highlighted in yellow
First sub $300k car I've seen on car sales. 2023 High km car (24,000). WP with the right options.
Kilometres are interesting. A least this guy drove it.
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2023-porsche-718-cayman-gt4-rs-982-auto-my23/OAG-AD-24391197/
How many KM are too many?
I don’t really get the fascination with uber low mileage. 24k would not bother me in the slightest, unless it was mostly track mileage then it’d be a different story.
I’d happily take the steep discount for what remains very low kms, objectively if not relatively.
I suppose with so many on market, mileage becomes another excuse to haggle over price. This should sell quickly with good spec and very sharp price.
future classic, be quick
🤣
Frustrated Driving like Miss Daisy trying to rack up 1500km during a couple of double demerit weekends in a row before a couple of track days coming up shortly.
Car was delivered with Dunlop Maxx2 which I’m unfamiliar with. I expected Cup 2’s.
After 1500km & two track days - will there be any life left in them? For guys who are tracking, how often are you replacing your rubber?
My GT4 RS was also delivered on Maxx Race 2s which were replaced by CUP2s once they were shagged....not because I disliked the Race2s...but because I was told you can't get them in Australia anymore.
I really wanted the Race2s again because, IMHO, they are a better tyre than the CUP2s (and I have run lots of CUP2s on my other cars). They take maybe a little longer to warm up but then they stabilise and remain faster for a longer period than the CUP2s.
I always found that the CUP2s started to fall off after the 3 or 4 lap whereas the Race2s gave me good laps times for a whole session and I got 5 track days out of them.
And BTW, if you search Rennlist you will see that the general attitude towards Races2s is that they are a better tyre.
Before going away for holidays for 4 weeks I had not driven the 4RS that much as felt I was getting bored with it. Went to France and noticed the only nice cars were UK plated and the French mostly drove very simple basic underpowered cars (including the rental car I had). Covered 2500km just bumming around without much of a plan.
When I got home and took out the 4RS I suddenly appreciated it a whole lot more. Have had 3 good drives in it since coming back 10 days ago and got to say it still ticks all the boxes that I originally wanted in a weekend car- NA, raw feeling, and quick enough to scare me a little on the roads. Have booked to take it back to the track this month so the car is back in the good books and I'm keeping it. Another car is going to get sold instead.
Just sharing because I guess I took it for granted having it around and the thought that there is always something better out there to buy and try. I hope all of you with a 4RS in the garage are still enjoying yours.
You are 1000% correct. I was in a panic when I saw prices dropping but you only lose once you sell. Especially if you haven’t enjoyed them much! I on purpose don’t drive too often & have different daily’s so when I do jump in my 4RS, it’s a fkn animal of a usable SUPERCAR! Enjoyed at ALL speeds where as some other GT cars need to be exploited at much faster way more illegal speeds. Enjoy guys what you have and not always what’s about to be released! Newer not always better and it’s just flexing most times.
Seen the tax rates in France ? A GT4RS has CO2 of 299 so that’s 70,000 euros…

Nice one fella
👍
I haven't driven my air cooled for a bit over 3 years, as I just got bored with driving it every weekend for 4-5 years.
I've contemplated selling it more times than I care to remember, as I'm basically unemployed and it'd nearly pay off our mortgage, which would put my mind at ease knowing the missus would be ok if anything happened to me. Problem there is, she won't let me sell it, as it's the only car I'd wanted since I was 10 years old and at 50 I finally bought one, and in all honesty there is not one car that would, or could possibly replace the feeling I get knowing I own an air cooled 911.
Sure there's plenty of cars that are a quarter of the price that'd run rings around it from a power/handling perspective, but they're not a 911, and I'm sure your RS would give the same feeling.
Maybe 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' when it comes to driving our cars, as I think we get a bit blase about them sometimes when we drive them so much, so a break always does you good I reckon
Never had an air cooled but the 997.2 manual is coming back to home from being in storage for 2 years this month as well. Now that's a car I will never sell as like Lee, it was a car I always wanted when the 997 shape was released when I was still working, and a few colleagues went and bought them new and lived the dream, whilst I was trying to buy a house to put a roof over my head.
I somehow think the 4RS is also a car that should end up being a keeper since I spec'd it how I wanted it and it is a one model run mid-engine Porsche.
Pity my kid is not interested in cars at all.
Oil Service question. GT4RS
Got Porsche to do a non-scheduled oil change after run in at 1500km.
Now have an 'oil service' notification come up at 2900km after 3 track days. Normal stuff? 1400km?
