I’ll ask my local garage to get these fitted on both sides I think.
Leading evidence: 'Install on both sides i think' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'its mate is' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Install on both sides i think' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Only one turbo had failed and was replaced under warranty.

My car performing well now but considering one turbo’s already gone ( @ only 16k miles) I suspect its mate is on borrowed time.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Had car out last night for a fast drive and boosting well…and no sign of oil smoke 😁 it’s taken a while , parts needed from Germany but all good now…thanks for above contributors .
Hi My car has been smoking badly (oil smoke) from exhaust after a hard run. The garage has faffed about a bit and after a month diagnosed it needs one new turbo. That’s good , happy with that..my question is …. Is the GTS exhaust a single box that is fed by each cylinder bank or does it have dividing internal baffle so each cylinder bank has it own exhaust tip. My exhaust has twin outlets and both pipes smoke badly. If the exhaust silencer is one piece and fed by both banks I can understand why only one failed turbo can cause smoke from both outlet pipes . My concern is that both turbos may be faulty creating smoke. Previous generations of 911 had separate exhaust for each bank so problem diagnosis was much easier with cases like this. The car has a standard Porsche sports exhaust with switchable valves. Any thoughts?

Is this quite a common issue with 991.2 gts ?
I watched the YouTube videos of the guy that owns Mallory performance (unit next to Matt Armstrong) rebuild a crash damaged 991.2 gts and he just had one of his turbos fail.
My 991.2 S had both turbos replaced at 14k miles and again at 19k miles just as I sold it. It’s a real weak point of the car. Don’t know if 992s suffer the same. I’d never own one without a warranty that’s for sure !
They’re fully exposed to the elements, so they’ll get frequently covered in salt if the car is driven in the winter. I think the issue is with the oil feed failing. Litchfield motors do an upgrade on an exchange basis, which I’m thinking of doing at some point if it will reduce the chances of failure. Up to 29K miles with no issues, but not driven in the winter.
A bit of feedback on my car…delivered to my home from OPC yesterday 😀( great service as usual ) It’s had a new turbo on drivers side , oil separator and turbo oil drain pot/pipe mods to both sides. Other turbo was inspected and deemed ok. Had car out last night for a fast drive and boosting well…and no sign of oil smoke 😁 it’s taken a while , parts needed from Germany but all good now…thanks for above contributors .

Think this has just happened to my 991.2S going into the OPC tomorrow - it’s smoking like I’ve never seen absolutely gutted….
If you have a warranty don’t be gutted, just one of those things.
Interesting and disappointing, but it does again highlight what an absolute bargain the 911 warranty is at circa £1k per annum, especially in comparison to Ferrari/Mclaren at £4-5k pa.

Hi Guy. I’ve attached a pic of passenger underside . It shows the new turbo oil drain pot and its outlet stainless pipe. I think the pipe goes to oil separator area ( not 100% sure)
The initial repair was the two new drain pots and pipework. (This didn’t fix smoking and car had to return to OPC for new turbo etc.) I did ask the tech if the recognised repair kit (supplied by Porsche as first method/fix of smoking ) was visibly different to the original he removed…his reply …nothing obvious but “maybe” internal dia of pipe was bigger . I thought the oil take off pipe might be fitted lower down in the drain pot effectively lowering the oil level but the configuration doesn’t allow that either. So sorry nothing obvious between old and new fittings. The oil separator ( original fitment , not part of mod package) was heavily contaminated because of oil seal leakage in turbo and deemed “uncleanable” so replaced. The intercooler on that bank was also flushed to remove oil residue. Early on in my problems I did speak to tech at Parr motorsport , very knowledgeable with this fault , they probably have more hands on experience than OPC ‘s with this type of thing , if your having troubles might be worth a talk with them. My car performing well now but considering one turbo’s already gone ( @ only 16k miles) I suspect its mate is on borrowed time. Good luck Ian

The Turbos on my 992 are fine at 50,000 miles.
It doesn't use a drop between services which are about every 15,000 miles.
Probably helps them being used so much. They are very exposed though.
Don't leave it for the next guy I say.
