As we now know the reason the 991.1 GT3 didn’t have a manual box was because there wasn’t enough budget for it (I guess they used the budget on developing the PDK gearbox for the 991.1 GT3).

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Saw this appear on the OOPC finder on Thursday afternoon, and it got me thinking. It's from quite a well known 'collection', so I wonder if it's been 'offered up' in order to secure a 992 GT3RS slot? I'm struggling to work out why else the owner would want to sell it. If it was/is, then I'm not sure I would. This particular 911R spec is IMO perfect. Having said that, with less than 200 miles from new, it's not even been used... https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/details/porsch...

POST 2Original post

Any number of reasons why someone might sell. Perhaps the seller felt it had achieved its peak value and now would be the time to get out - especially if it’s not being used. I don’t particularly like the colour combo, but cars like that get stuck in a rut - the next buyer is paying a big premium for such low mileage, but that will take a hit if the car is used.

POST 3Original post

More likely because 992 ST is literally around the corner.

Agree, one of my favorite cars but would be las choice colour both for car and stripes. odd its not going back to supplying dealer, cambridge, but one of the other garages in group. they have low miles turbos exclusive in stock which has been sat around for couple months and had price drops

Porsche specials seem to be following the example of MX5 / Lotus / ... just another one to sell a few cars. This R was special (see the price) ... but how many ways is it possible to cheese pare the 992 GT3 spec ??

Poor car, given the daft premium it seems destined to pass from one garage to the other, gathering dust.

POST 10Original post

A nuts ask, plenty for sale at the daft asking price, not that special or rare, nice enough car though,if only it was a proper lightweight.

POST 11Original post

So many great cars just get parked up in collectors garages never bing used . While we are still allowed to use them they should be used as much as possible .

This car is a collectors dream, not seen one for ages with the ultra low miles, bit marmite colour combo, but hey! its got us folks talking so no bad press for the dealer is it!

POST 18Original post

I think people will gradually forget about this model, or certainly covet it less over time. There have and will be so many more limited edition 911s to water it down. I’m not sure if the owner really wants a GT3RS, as they haven’t bothered even taking this one for a single weekend away. Ah, what the hell, just get one anyway. It’ll soon be a 4 owner car with 1000 miles on the clock.

Rumour mill had it they were selling at that price but they were not! i know somebody who sold theirs at the same time the were apparently selling for 800k. Didn’t realise it was even possible to spec the plastic dashboard on the 911R - crazy

POST 24Original post

46AF said: Didn’t realise it was even possible to spec the plastic dashboard on the 911R - crazy I was going to post the same thing yesterday. I know it's only a bit of interior trim but the placcy dash looks really poor, bear in mind leather upgrade would also apply to the door caps, centre console etc. and makes it a much nicer place to sit in - it just looks out of place to be plastic.

POST 25Original post

TBF, Plastic was the launch/presentation spec IIRC. That said - launch car also had Red Stripes.

Quite but be very careful you will trigger the handwringing spec Commandant who as usual will bore us with 'its all about the driving don't care about the spec' drivel. :

POST 27Original post

I think on an R it suits the ethos of the car - lighter weight, no fancy bits. I'd have specced plastic dash, PCM delete, LWFW etc. I'd probably do the same on an RS too, for the same reasons.

POST 28Original post

Would agree with you T on e.g. the pcm delete but as others have said the leather upgrade undoubtedly makes the car a nicer place to be even at the original £130k basic list never mind the insane current price £££. Usual story on the price you are now essentially paying for rarity but whether the R offers anymore over and above a 991.2 GT3 manual with its better engine and higher 9 k rev limit at c33% of the price of the R is doubtful.

POST 29Original post

I agree if you're wanting to drive the wheels off it a 991.2 Touring is the better buy but it won't feel as special. I'm sure for resale the leather dash is what most people would want, but there must be other oddballs out there like me who don't buy for resale....

Except somebody in the US on Rennlist weighed the plastic and extended leather 991 dashes. And guess which was lighter? Yup, the extended leather. Apparently, the extended leather dash isn't just the full plastic dash with leather on top. The structure underneath is the same, but the extended leather dash doesn't have the soft touch plastic surface treatment of the plastic dash. So essentially, you have the same basic structure with two different surface treatments and the leather one is actually lighter. So, turns out it's extended leather that suits the "ethos" of the car more, if you care about that. Personally, just think the plastic bits look and feel grim and the weight difference was never going to be actually material, even if the leather was a tiny but heavier.

POST 38Original post

Yes the 911 R was the hottest of of hot things when it came out….and they traded at mental money,I’d heard £600k ish…never heard that £800k number before which does sound very excessive. I think they’re very expensive cars now as a lot of what we thought made them special is no longer the case - It’s not the last manual Porsche GT car - It’s not the only modern Porsche GT car without a wing - It’s about to be replicated in being a road focused RFS derivative by the ST As we now know the reason the 991.1 GT3 didn’t have a manual box was because there wasn’t enough budget for it (I guess they used the budget on developing the PDK gearbox for the 991.1 GT3). They then gave the manual gearbox the green light for the 911 R knowing it would be brought back in the 991.2 GT3. So if we knew then what we know now the R would never have been a £600k car IMHO.

991 Speedsters seem to be £150k-ish less than this 911R and the Speedster is a 911R convertible. The V5 on a Speedster states it as a 911R convertible and Andreas Preuninger descibes the Speedster is a 911R convertible. On this basis the £450k for the non convertible version does look a tad steep.

£400 + . No. The R is an ornament for serious collectors only. Never has there been a car where mileage has been so ruinous financially. Put 1-2000 miles on and it will cost you north of £100k at todays rates, and no one wants one with mileage anyhow so may well be stuck with it. Beyond irrational.

This is what I do not understand about the 'halo' models. If you have an gt3 etc from new, you could crack 15k miles on it in a year and still offload most likely with a premium. Why do so many owners sit with them under a cover in a heated garage posting on here about the importance of a leather dashboard etc whilst hardly using it to keep miles down? I enjoy whatever I have as often as I can in all weathers. Not having a go at anyone or trying to stir an argument; I just don't understand. It's been indicated that I shall be offered a .2GT3, and if that happens and I take it, it shall be parked on the driveway and used as above, just like the other stuff I have. If the above R had 40k miles on it, it would still have a £100k premium, with the more important fun that was given with actually using it. I submitted a configuration for a S/T, and got a call back from the DP that they haven't been told if they shall receive any allocations....not that I would be offered one anyway!

Thing is you have to be a lunatic to put mileage on an R given that it is so close to a 991.2 Touring. Yes it’s got the lightweight panels etc and apparently a more road biased chassis set up but the Touring has got the better engine.

Wasn’t that on CC recently? Another silver one also on CC at the moment. Funny thing is, the AT Ad says the mileage is 5,300 below average (it’s only done 69 mls). So, for a 7 year old car, that suggests the average mileage of a 991R is about 750 mls pa.

Be intresting to see where it ends up i think circa £350k

so cc car ended at 320k. guess that means the east london one is way overpriced and should be at 350k max if you want a low miles ones. hang on a few months and prices will drop even further. i see it as a 300k car come 2024.
