Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I almost went that way but carbon didn't work as well with my color combination (carmon red w/sand beige) so I went for aluminum accents instead.

POST 1Original post

Just got back from dealer. He tells me tomorrow or Wednesday he will know how much time (if any!) is left for changes on the Feb. build slot. He tells me it is a late Feb. date, so I should have about one week at the most for coming up with my selection. That still seems short, is it normal for al changes to be locked out 6-7 weeks before the build date? I still am not sure about colors (inside and out) and going with stock 18's, or the 19' sport design wheels. The wheels are totally an aesthetic choice. I am wondering if might be better going stock, and then adding on an aftermarket 18” multi-spoke wheel like the oz superleggara? Color is a tough one for me as well. I was planning on the arctic silver/black, but I would like to make it stand apart a bit from all the launch cars, and make it a bit special. Speed yellow (I have a ducat that color) appeals, as does basalt. I could always just add some carbon to the interior? I thought I would have a month or so, and the chance to look at a bunch of cars before I decide. Any advice would be appreciated. Peace, Michael

POST 2Original post

On a Dec. build I couldn't make changes in mid-Nov. Don't remeber the exact date. I went with Cocoa on my Artic Silver for a number of reasons, the natural leather on black that AtlasCroc suggested is good and I think his Atlas/Blue is going to be very classy. The main thing to think about in color selection is to make sure you get something that you and your wife will not tire of after the new wears off.

POST 3Original post

Michael, I have an early Feb build and was told about 10 days ago that it was pretty well locked unless I wanted to push back production on the car. Some of the lead time is that the engines and many other componants are made in Germany, then sent to Finland to be assembled. So, there some transportation time built into the schedule. Most of the reviews I've read make the 18' vs. 19' quandry a difficult one. On one hand, they say the cornering is more precise with the 18s, on the other, the 19s will give you a slightly larger contact patch, but the 19s will be a lower profile tire which will also give you a harsher ride, which when you're not on the track or autocross course might be too harsh for you or your wife. Be careful with yellow... of you decide to sell the car, you'll see it's a color that's not for everyone, The metallic black (Basalt) is a very nice color. when the sun shines on it, it picks up a slightly goldish tone to the metallic flakes, and the sand beige or natural brown, or cocoa leather looks great with it. brad

POST 4Original post

Good luck on color choices (Atlas/Sea Blue or Basalt/Sand would both be excellent choices!) I've heard Basalt described as having a 'root beer' look under certain lighting conditions so think Beige or Natural Brown would be an excellent interior color with it. Have you looked at option XRR, 19' Carrera Sport wheels? They look really nice, have a wider footprint and would make your Cayman very distinctive.

Mine was started on November 30th and I made my last change on November 1st, tried again the next day and it was NO. Russ

POST 6Original post

Thank goodness everyone else doesn't want Speed Yellow like me! /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/tounge_smile.gif

POST 7Original post

hi k-man, i love speed yellow (or fly yellow for ducati/ferrari) i have lusted after a dino 246 in fly yellow for years. and a few years ago could get one for the 70k the cayman will run. they are now 100k and up! but not yellow for me this time after working over the porsche website, and getting friend/family opinions, and especially listening caymanclubers, i am choosing between: arctic silver/black with carbon bits seal grey/black with carbon bits arctic silver w/ natural leather any pics out there of natural leather?

POST 8Original post

Michael, I faced the exact situation a few days ago. Same choices like yours. I ordered mine Seal/Blk std. Love the artic but already a few or will out there. I love greys and Seal is a nice color, not too light not too dark. Blacks on the other hand makes the car smaller imo. The interior I chose black because of dirt issues and I prefer the agressive sportier look, no compromises, and I dont have the time to wipe dirt off every now and then. I am a sports person. The natural leathers or brown are nice but to me, fit for a sedan, not this 2 seater. Cocoa is very nice, but I wanted a younger look. But whatever you choose, like Russ said, beauty is in the eye of the Bhldr. Anything will suit this car. The rest is optical romance....have fun...get yours soon my .02 hope it helps ... cheers ... COCO.... oh and btw, looking at the car in flesh, the aluminun trim inside (even the std) to me much nicer than the carbon, at least in black interior. Oh and make sure you get the sport steering wheel leather, didnt like the standard. too harsh and could be even slipery with wet hands....a no-no

POST 9Original post

Actually I'm really surprised you can get a Feb build at all. I'm guessing it is a car the dealer already has on order that he is making changes to. You can always go for a March build if you want/need more time... but I think you are darn lucky to still be able to get a Feb build.

POST 10Original post

Michael - The Natural Grey leather is one of Porsches best interior colors IMO. First seen it tends to look black.....that is until you see it next to black and find that it is a very dark charcoal grey with a slightly lighter carpet to match.....very nice in person. It isn't like the 'natural' leather you spoke of in another post with imperfections, etc.......but a very high quality leather that is processed in a different manner than the regular leather choices. It looks a little richer with very fine grain and feels a little softer to the touch, but I can't comment on its upkeep as I have never owned it. Here it is on a 996 911...... <input type="image" height="480" width="640" src="/UserFiles/10085562e.jpg" />

POST 11Original post

I may be mistaken but the 'natural leather' that I was speaking about is brown between sand and cocoa.

POST 12Original post

I have a Feb. build slot and just received a call from my dealer saying the order has been excepted (except for the chrome exhaust) and I can't make any additional changes. He indicated that most builds have been happening earlier than planned so they could start building late January. Woohoo!

I meant 'accepted'...I hate typos so I thought I'd correct myself...

POST 14Original post

My Boxster S is seal gray with black interior. The combination has a quiet elegance with avery aggressive stance. the car was lowered, performance springs with 18 inch wheels and spacers. We added strut braces making the car very nimble. The Cayman that I ordered is Slate Grey with coco interior. The combination is very striking ( Slate grey has a brown hue to it). In terms of 'basic colors' the guys who have seen the car up close and personal say that the red is very fitting for this body configuration. I personally like black but as you know it a bitch to maintain. White is very forgiving when it come to touch up work.. I order the 19 inch wheels but have a set of 18 should my wife want to track it. David : 911 SC track car , Boxster S 2001

POST 15Original post

To Nthusisat, i am hoping because i have a "late" Feb. build slot, I may have more time? I won't know until tomorrow morning. And I do believe it is a car that has been ordered, just not spoken for yet. I am a huge fan of carbon, but have yet to see any of Porsche's in the flesh. uv degradation is concern with carbon exposed to light, but inside it should be fine. and at the price they charge, i assume it is the good stuff! I would like to get the door sil in aluminium (sic).

POST 16Original post

Check the dealer sites, there are quite a few unsold cars showing on many sites. Some should have near your requirements and may be available.

POST 17Original post

Michael I have a March build date and was told no changes by the 3rd. week of Jan. This makes it easier as I don't want to think about it anymore. I went with the Basalt Black and Tericotta all leather. It looked so rich and different on a 911 I saw. I'm sure whatever you decide it will look great. Jeff

POST 18Original post

I placed my order on 12/28for a Feb build.Today (1/3) I was still able to add an option.

POST 19Original post

excellent news. i will know in about 12 hours or so. i do not hear anyone talking about early vs. late feb (or any other month) builds. have i been misinformed? Edited by - michael young on 01/03/2006 6:55:20 PM

POST 20Original post

Michael, Let me know what you hear about the early vs. late feb build...my dealer told me that mine is slated for mid-Feb but he projected that it could start as early as the end of January (based on what he's seen with his other orders to date). I think the carbon accents will look great. I almost went that way but carbon didn't work as well with my color combination (carmon red w/sand beige) so I went for aluminum accents instead. I'd love to see pictures of yours when you get it. As everyone else is getting theirs this month, we can wait in agony for another 2.5 months...urgghhh!

POST 21Original post

here is my morning email from dealer: February production is now locked. My March slot appears to be still changeable but the production status will change again with no warning from Porsche. i think i need the extra time to sort out my choices. being in boston, may will be ok with me, unless we get an early spring!

POST 22Original post

Michael, I agree that it's probably better to wait to make sure you're comfortable with the options you want...assuming it is possible to be 100% comfortable - based on everyone's feedback it seems like we've all made changes to the last possible minute. I'm in NY and I'm praying for an early spring...worst case, I'd rather have the Cayman in my garage then waiting for it to come! Good luck with your decisions.
