Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have a few questions for those who have been driving their Cayman S for a little while. I'd like to know what the cabin (engine-related) noise level is like? Is the engine sound distracting? Does it prevent quiet conversation? Do you have to turn the music up quite a bit?

POST 2Original post

It depends on how you drive it. Above 4,000 with the throttle agressively positioned (more than 40% travel) you're not going to be hearing a whole lot other than the engine, exhaust, and tire noise unless the stereo is cranked way up or your passenger is speaking very loadly.

POST 3Original post

I'm addicted to the noise from my Cayman so I often have the stereo off and a typical conversation with anyone in my car is restricted to me saying things like 'can you hear that?' as I accelerate past 5,000 rpm! If you haven't driven a mid-engined car before, you'll probably find it fairly shocking. You can hear the belts whirr, the rush of air in to the engine and the revs build. At low speed you can hear a constant whining from the belts in the engine. When you are sat at the lights you can also hear a faint rumble from the exhaust - lovely! I can't help give the accelerator a little dab, which annoys my wife no end. When you put your foot down it gets gloriously noisy. A deep growl grows louder until you reach 5,000 rpm when the noise changes to a metallic scream, similar to a BMW M3. Forget conversation - you just can't help listen to the sound. On the motorway/highway the engine and the exhaust are pretty unobtrusive. The tire noise is more noticeable. All things considered its a great balance between reasonably quiet running when you are cruising and all the noise you want under acceleration.
