Suspected cause
As you want a cab I suspect manuals will be even harder to find, as most cabs are boulevard cruiser owners so tip suits.
Leading evidence: 'manuals will be even harder' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'manuals will be even harder' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace (so i'm guessing it can't be too far away' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I can't see any evidence on clutch change (so I'm guessing it can't be too far away from needing one; although it drove really well).

I ended up selling mine principally because it is so difficult to use the performance it has on the public roads.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking at 996 and 997 turbo cabs. I want it in black and must be manual. I have been offered a 996 turbo cab, 04, 50k miles in lovely condition and with fsh. Completely standard car. Comes with hardtop. Last service by a specialist less than 1000 miles ago. Will need service next August due to time (rather than mileage).. I can't see any evidence on clutch change (so I'm guessing it can't be too far away from needing one; although it drove really well). Subject to an inspection (to check clutch, rads, Actuators, boost pipes etc) saying it's all good, what's it worth?
I was guessing about the same.
Any predictions of what values will do over next 12 months? They look good value against a 997 turbo cab which for same colour and spec tend to be 45k upwards (17k difference).

I would have thought 28-30k based on the milage and spec.

The OP mentioned standard and 50k miles
I would hope to get it for 27-28k, should hold its value well provided you don't add huge miles
I'm not looking to make money on it (although I wouldn't complain if I did), I just don't want to lose loads!
I'm very very tempted by a 997 turbo cab, but a £17k difference and the potential for quite a bit depreciation is putting me off.

my 997t coupe cost approx. 10k more than a 996ts with similar miles - for me it was worth it for better interior/power/looks (last one subjective) and younger life, think it will maintain a premium but may lose a few k more in depreciation just because it hasn't flatlined yet - but it will be immaterial over the 5 or so years I plan on keeping it for.
is the 17k comparing like for like in terms of conditionand mileage?
The mileage is the same on both cars. Condition is similar too.
I would prefer a 997 purely due to looks. I'm indifferent on the other matters (the power is nice but frankly the 996 is plenty fast enough, couple of years newer is nice bit private plates are going on, as for the interior I don't have a preference). A £17k difference just seems huge price to pay to get the headlights I prefer!!

Having moved into a 996 turbo cab this year I can report that I am very happy with it. I too could not justify the higher price of a 997. I even love the headlights! Groovy!
If only i could find a privately advertised black 997 turbo cab manual it would probably be about the right money. They seem to all go to traders which I don't understand!! Do people not sell them privately for some reason????

I will when I come to sell, truth is I found it hard to find my black/black manual coupe, so many tips around which I was not interested in (cannot stand tip box, think manual Mezger cars will hold value well) - took 6 weeks but finally found one, wasn't 100% when I got it but is now.

I suspect it's more that people don't buy them privately - when I sold my 6 turbo cab, I tried a private sale and got no takers. It's a fair chunk of cash for something that even those who know what they are buying recognise could have some expensive consequences.
FWIW, I was never in the market for a 7 cab, just a 6. And I never, ever, ever found myself thinking "you know, this is fast, but what would be nice is something just a little bit faster". I ended up selling mine principally because it is so difficult to use the performance it has on the public roads.

I must say, my desire for a 7 has nothing to do with power. The 6 is plenty fast enough. It's purely down to the shape, especially the front end. It's just a big price to pay for the looks.
I can't stand the tiptronic gearbox, having driven one there is no way I would consider it. Pdk is another story, but they are too expensive.

amen to that, get your point on the power thing, I found I was also hoping for an X50 when looking for a 6, then thought it is another tick in the 7 man maths box as all 7s come with more power than a 6 X50 (and I had no particular desire to tune either)
What would you normally expect a trader to drop in price? I've found what I'm looking for but the price is more than I want to pay. The trader has had it at least 6 wks and won't move a penny on price! Is this normal?
Everything else I have ever bought from traders/dealers they have been willing to move a couple of k at this level at least. It's also a cab so at this time of year there won't be many buyers of it, I wouldn't have thought.
Issue you will have from a dealer with 996TT at present is that a decent one will shift fast as there will be lots of interest - assuming priced correctly - if you will not pay the £££, then the next person will. I'd expect to get around £1K off at the £30K mark but will depend on the dealer/car
Asking prices and selling prices are rarely the same thing. Usually the aim of a trader/dealer is to actually sell cars? He has had this car at least six weeks. Would suggest that the price is too high to me.
I should also say that the car in question is a 997 turbo cab. I've been watching them for the last six months (I have bought and sold something else during that period) and they aren't going up, if anything they are coming down.
Ultimately its a black/black manual - the most sought after basics IMHO
so he may be happy to wait
I don't see prices going down for good low milage cars - I bought my 2008 black/black turbo coupe with 28k miles for £46.5k in March, doing a current search for similar cars gets 13 hits ranging from £47.5 to £50k. Only 7 are manual although that is a higher % than when I was looking, when it was 75% tips.
