Suggestion

That's what I've heard - best noise is from replacing the primary silencer with a bypass - "cup pipe".

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone running this set up? I've just put it onto my 964 and have to say it's louder than anything I've ever heard on a car. It's completely anti social and hurts your ears if you are caught behind it. I'm going to try the various options of putting the cat back on and putting the back box back on. What are people generally running on 964s?

POST 2Original post

Hiya, I've done all sorts of variations including the one you describe. Have ended up with just the RS pipe on my 964 C2, best blend of Porsche noise and liveability. If you are Bucks/ Oxon way, happy for you to pop round for a listen. Cheers Slodge

POST 3Original post

I have just the G-pipe as a mod from standard and it's a pretty good noise from the drivers seat. Tempted to de-cat but not sure it's a great plan - I'm planning to be at Silverstone Sunday Service - if you're there it would be good to compare?

It's honestly way way too loud. The noise on the over-run is just absolutely nuts.

POST 5Original post

That's what I've heard - best noise is from replacing the primary silencer with a bypass - "cup pipe". I went for a G-pipe this time as my secondary silencer had split & too far gone to repair.

POST 6Original post

Decat and Cup for me which is loud but not rediculous. My specialist allways passes comment at service time... "sounds lovely this one" and he is no schmoozer. For £60, the S/S decat pipes on Ebay are excellent (no affiliation).

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've gone decat and sports pipe in the end. Much more liveable, but the overrun on the g pipe and decat was something else.
