Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have seen many pre-facelift 996s with this issue so it appears to be a materials weakness in the plastics used on this part of the car....

It doesn't work; it's quite nasty plastic, you actually have to remove the surface layer that is bleached, I actually found metal polish does this quite well as it is mildly abrasive, but ultimately replacing the plastics would be great.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi On my 996 the black plastics on the openings behind the colour coded bumper have been bleached by the sun (this appears to be a common fault on 996s). Is is easy/inexpensive to replace these plastic parts? Cheers

POST 2Original post

It is a one-piece moulding on C2s and C4s, and there are several types, depending on whether it is pre or post facelift, and manual or tiptronic. Prices range from £40-£100 depending on model. The moulding clips in from the rear. A set for a C4S (slat-type) is £300-ish.
