Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hoping to trade in my S4 for a 996 soon. the dealer (momentum in houston) has several nice low mileage 996's. anything in particular that i should be aware of (cabs in particular)?

POST 2Original post

I'll look up the TSBs (if Loren doesn't beat me to it) and see if there's anything. I know of one on the fitment of the hardtop because of rattles. You do know that the rear window was changed to glass for MY 02. Is it a C2 or C4?

POST 3Original post

clutch, rear main seel, mass air sensor, o2 sensors. Oil consumption. Try and find one that is still in factory warranty that way you can get an extended factory warranty, simply the best in terms of dealing with things.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

there a few different cars that are possibilities. c2 and c4. i like the idea of a cab but rattles and houston weather might make me get a coupe. they are all 01 or 02 with 12k to 22k miles. so some warranty still left. warranty is one of my concerns. so i would for sure look into an extended. thanks for the info guys.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

apparently, i suck at ubb code

O/T stuff that pertains to any 996 that posters have listed there are a few Cab specific 6101 A&B "Noises in convertible top" 6102 "Noises in hardtop 6117 "Modified rear hardtop lock" 6119 "Convertible top latch cover replacement 6119 "Convertible top locking hook" 6141 "Convertible Top side flap microswitch modification. POST 8Original post

I would go for an 02 if you can manage. The difference in the engine from the 01 is worth it, but thats just my opinion. Others might say its not noticeable, but I think the sound is better, and of course the 20 hp boost helps.

POST 9Original post

Lots of 996's to choose from in Houston. When I was looking, I had a bad experience with Momentum. While I was negotiating the deal (over the course of a few days), I found out that the windows had been left down in a major rain storm the night before. The sales person concealed it and when confronted, lied about it. It was bad enough (new carpet, padding, drivers seat, seat control, etc)that the car was immediately wholesaled out after I ended the discussions.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

you know, to be honest i was really suprised at how easy it has been to work with the salesguy. i have never heard good things about momentum Porsche sales. btw, any other places to check out to do some comparison shopping?

POST 11Original post

Hey, i remember you from AudiWorld...good luck with getting a P-Car, you will not be dissapointed

POST 12Original post

Good luck making the switch from S4 to Porsche. I just did that about a month ago. I also remember your name from AW. I personally bought a 03 C2 Coupe. I would look for a 02 if I were you since the engine/exhaust sound changes are greatly improved. Either way I'm sure you'll love the car. I really liked the feel of the sports chasis (M030) so you might want to look into that option and a TON of people buy the PSE (Porsche Sports Exhaust) so you might want to also see if you can find that as an option. Other than that good luck. My only mistake was to get rid of the S4 since I do need a more practical daily driver, and will be forced to purchase something else to go along.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi fellow AW'ers. i was back at the dealer today. great morning so i decided to drive a cab. i think it reaffirmed my thoughts on getting a coupe. i would get an 03 but $ is an issue. there is a magnificant 02 seal grey c2 with 18k miles miles. if i can get out of the s4 lease i will snap it up. otherwise i can wait. i am sure there will be other used 996's around. besides, it might be a chance for me to get into an 03

POST 14Original post

Hey, I just picked up my 01 996 from Momentum on Monday. I worked with Phillipe. He was great. I drove all the way from Eastern North Carolina to Houston to confirm the condition of the car and finalize the deal. The car was as advertised. The coincidence is that I traded in my 01 silver S4 for the 996. Last, I got the 01 because I wanted the aerokit. In fact, the car has the GT package (aerokit, sport chassis, stainless steel exhaust tips), so that was a bonus. As I was trying to make the decision, I drove both 2001 and 2002 cars and I thought that the torque difference between the 01 and 02 was noticeable. According to Porsche, the 02 body is stiffer. But with that stiffness comes extra weight (I may be wrong on this) so the actual performance of the two cars seemed to be about the same.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow small world. after looking at my lease i think i will put this off for a few months and reassess then. i am still going to get the car, but just not tomorrow
