Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The rubber/plastic lanyard connecting the fuel filler cap to the body has broken - the little loop at the end which attaches to the rivet broke but I have managed a temporary repair usinig cord thinking a replacement cap would be the usual Porsche price! However, on anothern thread recently the very reasonable cost for a replacement cap was highlighted (<£10!!) so I am picking one up on Wed. My question is how do I re-attach the new cap to the body. Do I also need to replace the rivet and if so how? Does the old rivet pull out and I then push a new one in with the lanyard loop around it, for example. ':?:' Grateful for any help/advice. It's probably easier than I think but don't want to break new lanyard. Regards David

POST 2Original post

Interested in this as I too need to make the same fix...

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Collected replacement filler cap and rivet on Wed and Dick Lovett Swindon kindly fittted it for free! As usual excellent service from this OPC. However it is in fact quite easy. It's best buy a new plastic expansion rivet (Pt No P999.507.499.40 £0.22 + VAT) as well as the Cap(Pt No P996.201.241.03 £7.60 + VAT) since you may damage the rivet trying to remove it. The rivet has a centre pin which if pushed through downwards expands the underneath part. So to remove rivet you try to reverse this, but if you can't you carefully cut the head off with a Stanley knife or just try and pull it out with pliers. Obviously the easiest is to find a nice friendly, helpful OPC to do the job for free for you. :thumb: Hope this helps. David
