I will be getting a second set of wheels for the GT4 for use over winter (will not be fitted with winter tyres, as winter's are not that harsh here - will go with MPSC4Ss; non-N-rated but confirmed acceptable with regard to warranty with my OPC).

Sadly winter here (Sweden) means the car is off the road, unless I run proper Nordic winters or studded tyres.

Personally I'd run 19s with a slightly narrower rear and bigger sidewalls for more better wet weather performance.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I hope that everyone is well and is not getting too frustrated / anxious / depressed with all the Covid-19 BS going on right now!? I will be getting a second set of wheels for the GT4 for use over winter (will not be fitted with winter tyres, as winter's are not that harsh here - will go with MPSC4Ss; non-N-rated but confirmed acceptable with regard to warranty with my OPC). I could get a second set of the OEM GT4 wheels but am interested in alternative options. My favourite brand of a/m wheels is Rays-Volk Racing and would like to fit a set of G25s to the car but I am not sure if they manufacture a size that fits in this design (TE37s are not for me, but sizing details may be useful ...)? So, I would be grateful if people could post up what a/m wheels they have fitted to their 981/718 GT4s or 718 Spyders; ideally with pictures, size & especially offset. Maybe this thread could then become a go-to thread for anyone with one of these cars who is thinking of fitting a different set of wheels. Cheers! Daz

I had a quick look for wheels and not many places do them in the proper size and offset. OEM is by far the best option unless you're updating to BBSs.

TDT said: For winter, just use your set of OEM rims, then for summer have some fancier wheels, like BBS FI-R or HRE R101 LW. I'm not going to take my Cup 2s off to replace them with different tyres. That would be a PITA. Buying a second set of OEMs and fitting to those is an option, though. Thanks. Twinfan said: I had a quick look for wheels and not many places do them in the proper size and offset. OEM is by far the best option unless you're updating to BBSs. I will take a look at the BBS & HRE. I really wanted (non-TE37) Volks but if that is not possible, I may just go down the OEM route. Thanks also. Edit: OK, I just looked at those and actually prefer the OEMs. Think I may just go down that route. Thanks guys! Edited by Evo9lution on Sunday 11th October 12:59

I considered 19" BBS CH-R in 8.5x19 10x19 ET51/38 with PS4S for a winter setup. They are cheap enough but these wheels come with an awful looking chrome rim protector that would need removing or painting to match. Not sure if these will clear ceramic brakes, if you have those. HRE are stunning and very light, but they are €10k. A bit rich for me as a winter wheel. Edited by Oz83 on Sunday 11th October 19:52

I do like the OEMs but will investigate Volk Racing G25s with Rays directly to see what's what.

Edited by Oz83 on Sunday 11th October 19:52 The point is the OEM would be your winter wheel and the BBS or HRE would be your showy summer wheel. So take the Cup2 off now, put on your ‘winter’ tyres and then buy some summer wheels and put your existing Cup2 back on those. Or just get another set of OEM. That’s the safest bet.

Some sets available on ebay for less. No, full set wont fit in the Cayman. You’ll need another car if you want to transport all at the same time.

A set of new 718 GT4 wheels are £3200, but you'll need centre caps, valves and TPMS modules.

It's their race pipe with OPF delete and race manifolds. Sounds incredible that car, goes to show how restrictive OPFs/OEM setup is. They'll relieve you of c.£10k for those upgrades though

Twinfan said: A set of new 718 GT4 wheels are £3200, but you'll need centre caps, valves and TPMS modules. Centre caps can be cannibalised across the wheels and you can (if you so choose) get an external TPMS module which does tyre pressure & temperature, which will save you a few £hundred. Interesting how much cheaper the tyres are in the UK than in CH (especially if I do not have to pay VAT): https://content.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment... Equivalent to £4,687.79

Fair enough, but that's not what the OP said. I thought he asked for recommendations for winter wheels. Personally I'd run 19s with a slightly narrower rear and bigger sidewalls for more better wet weather performance. Sadly winter here (Sweden) means the car is off the road, unless I run proper Nordic winters or studded tyres. It would make a good snow plough however.

Sadly winter here (Sweden) means the car is off the road, unless I run proper Nordic winters or studded tyres. It would make a good snow plough however. Yeah, looking for alternative wheels for winter. Think I'll go OEM with MPS4S tyres. Don't really need winters (OK, better for really cold weather but often it hovers around 7 degrees here and it's actually quite a dry climate in this part of Switzerland with very little snow; which tends to surprise people) so MPS4S gives me great wet weather performance (when needed) but also the ability to still utilise the autobahn properly when needed (no 250 km/h limit to the tyres).

OZ is the goto wheel really unless you have BBS money. oem too rich for the weight.

POST 22Original post

I don't think OZ do any in the correct GT4 offset in 20" so you'd need spacers on the front. As far as I can tell, the only folk who do proper matching 20" wheels are: Porsche OEM BBS (off the shelf Porsche fitment) HRE (built to order) Unless anyone knows otherwise?

POST 28Original post

Yep, I got offset wrong initially but the OZs will be sticking out more than stock which I don't want. I'll keep an eye out for a used set of OEM wheels I think.

People do fit 10 even 15mm spacers and 265’s to GT4, the OZ will be fine and give you better turn in and still pass an MOT. Look better also imo. Not much else out there unless you pay double the cash.

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thread resurrection, as I haven't been on here for a while ... I investigated a set of OEM wheels for the GT4 from the UK last summer and was told that it was only possible to order a single wheel at a time and not a set. Seemed very strange given that a set is advertised in the Tequipment website. I know that I can get a full set in Switzerland so not sure why OPCs were saying this in the UK? Just FYI, in case anyone is looking or hears different.

POST 32Original post

Buy from u.s? I think that is the best route. Search rennlist forums for 718 gt4 wheels, you’ll be able to get 19s made for gt4. Apex seems like a particularly good and cheap option

POST 33Original post

Maybe they were out of stock? Your OPC is telling porkies though. I bought a brand new set of four 718 GT4 wheels late last year from my OPC that were shipped over from Germany.

POST 34Original post

I am not sure of the rules on posting items for sale so understand if a mod needs to remove this. However I have just listed a set of 981 GT4 OEM wheels on eBay. Just refinished in Platinum by Diamond Alloys in Northolt With centre caps. No tyres and no TPMS. If anyone is interested the starting bid is £1750 (about half price?) and the item number is 133689491527. I have a set of 19" for Summer no and so do not need two sets of OEM. Snowy

Twinfan said: Maybe they were out of stock? Your OPC is telling porkies though. I bought a brand new set of four 718 GT4 wheels late last year from my OPC that were shipped over from Germany. Thanks for the info. It was actually a friend who asked on my behalf but I was thinking that it sounded strange but don't know how Porsche GB behave, only Porsche Schweiz. I am leaning towards OZ Ultraleggera HLTs now as they seem a good wheel, from a reputable company, and are not as expensive as OEM. However, I may ask in Germany re: OEM as guaranteed no MFK issues if I go that route and may fall in line price-wise with the OZs here ... On a side note, I asked about OEM 19" VW Spielberg wheels for my Golf R and they were more expensive that the 20" 718 GT4 OEM rims! I could not believe it. Just ordered a set of Ultraleggera HLTs instead, for exactly the same reason.

POST 36Original post

Hi, is anyone on here running a proper winter set up on their GT4, rather than PS4S option mentioned in this thread? Temps where I am regularly dip below zero in winter and a proper winter or all-season tyre is definitely the best strategy. Don’t fancy the kosher Porsche option (20” Carrera S) and would be happy with 19s to be honest. Cheers

POST 37Original post

I've have Michelin Alpin 4s in the standard tyre sizes on my Spyder for winter use. One end (rear I think) is N rated but the other end isn't. Excellent tyre and very good in snow and Ice. I didn't want the faf of different wheels so I just get them switched over.
