Suggestion

If I was going to start it, I'd get it up on a hoist and have a good look around the engine bay (check all the hoses/rubbers, general condition of the engine, any leaks, no animals that have taken up residence), replace all fluids (so oil and coolant change, drain and refill fuel), pull the spark plugs and check them, then inspect inside the cylinders with a boroscope, and spray some oil inside each cylinder so they have some lubrication for the initial crank.

I'd likely replace the battery as well, but if I didn't I would definitely jump the car for the initial start.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found a porsche boxtser s 2010 <100km  that im thinking of purchasing but it hasnt been started for 3 years but is in really great condition besides that.  Its in Victoria Australia. Anyone have any suggestion or experience on this matter?  Looks like an expensive exercise?   Could i take on the risk and buy at 50%?

POST 2Original post

I'd go and turn it over using a jump cord. If it starts then that's half your worries over.  So many other variables though- distance driven since last oil change, how long since last turned over, etc etc

POST 3Original post

As above, if it starts and runs ok, you're over the worst. Have it ppi'd or looked over by someone familiar with 987. Sitting for three years shouldn't be an issue. Good luck.

POST 4Original post

I wouldn't be starting it where it is.  Even if the engine is fine, you could well damage it. The problem is that's hard to do on a car that you may or may not be buying, and it's a bit of money if you don't end up buying it.  If you're happy with the potential for (possibly expensive) issues, then go for it, it's always nice rescuing a car.  If you just want something cheaper, you may be fine, but it may turn out to be not cheap at all.

Not a good idea to be starting a car with 3 year old fuel. Best to drain the old and refill with fresh fuel before starting up the car. I would pay a mobile mechanic to do this for you and to do a PPI at the same time. If the price of the car is worth it, you can negotiate to have the cost of the PPI taken off the price of the car should you buy it. He can also fit a new battery at the same time should you decide to go ahead with the purchase.
