I hooked everything back up and double checked my work(so I thought).
Leading evidence: 'Check work(so i thought)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check into flow rates' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Cleaned the MAF several times with CRC MAF cleaner.

Sampled for Blackstone and let it drain for 3 hours / changed levels of car with floor jack to get as much out as possible.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A great day of spring Porsche DIY projects in the garage. Music on, coffee poured, red bulls handy, tools laid out, work lights on high...ready to go.
I Changed the oil and filter / Joe Gibbs DT40 and Napa gold 1042 spin on for the LN adaptor. The magnetic drain plug was clean except for the normal very fine paste of black gook...no pepper or large grains. Sampled for Blackstone and let it drain for 3 hours / changed levels of car with floor jack to get as much out as possible. The new fill took 10 qts....just what I ordered.
New stock air filter from Mahle. The other was only 1 year old, but it had an amazing amount of leaves, dirt and debris in it. I opted for new versus cleaning it. See below, but the dirty filter seems to draw from a couple areas way more.
Took out and cleaned the entire airbox. Added 50% more holes on the drilled side to increase draw. You can see on the old dirty filter it draws hard from the open intake side and where the factory holes are. I decided to add 50% more holes from the existing holes towards the center. I'm sure it will help under WOT.....we'll see.
Removed the Fabspeed cold air intake and the MAF. Cleaned the MAF several times with CRC MAF cleaner. Literally sprayed almost a whole can on that sucker. Wiped out the Fabspeed CIA well and shined her up.
I'd been having irratic idling issues, so I looked up throttle body cleaning. I've never had a KN, but the throttle body was a dirty sucker. It did not look dirty to the eye, until I wiped it with a dry micro fiber towel.... covered in dirty oily gunk. I did not remove it, but used a make shift tool on a long screw driver with a micro fiber towel duct taped on. It worked like a champ. I put this into the throttle body and into the plenum where I could see it and sprayed non residue cleaner into the throttle body wiping it with another micro fiber towel as I went. It was amazing the amount of dirty oil and crap came out of that.
I had unhooked the battery to reset the computer. I had not had any CEL's, only the rough idle at certain rpms and wanted the computer to relearn after everything was cleaned up.
Okay, now for the test. I hooked everything back up and double checked my work(so I thought). Ready to kick it on. Turned the key and it ran like crap. Turned the key off and went back and found I left the oil filler cap off...whew, easy fix and I did not ruin my car. About had to use a sport wipe on myself after that one. Cap on and ran like a DREAM. No more irratic idle, smooth as butter with new fresh air, oil, less restriction, etc. Took her out for a hard 30 min drive and seems to be running way better. I'll have to note the mpg when not into the pedal so much.
Feels good to clean everything up. I figured I saved several hundred dollars with these simple, but time consuming DIYs! Happy spring driving...now just to avoid the tickets!

Hi FLA996TT,
It was a fun take my time project. I'd used the Amsoil Ea15K32 filter, but after researching flow rates, I switched back. I also researched the Platinum filter from Napa. The filtering is better, but you lose 2 gpm's of flow. Charles Navarro commented due to flow rate he'd stick with the Napa gold. I just think the synthetic filtering element is so good it slightly restricts the flow. I'll tell you it seems my pressure is a bit different with the DT40 and gold Napa filter.
Anyway, for what it is worth you may want to check into flow rates on your filter for the next change. Thanks for the comment and you have a great week! Chris
I just received this response from Amsoil and apparently, the flow rate of their Ea15K32 full synthetic filter is also 9-11gpms. So, equal to the napa gold. Oh well, Napa gold this time and I'll decide by next oil change what I'm sticking with.
Chris;
The flow rate of the Ea15K32 is also between 9 and 11 GPM. This filter has no ByPass valve as in applications (GM) where it is recommended, there is a bypass valve built into the oil pump itself. This means, that if the filter ever gets filled to capacity and your application does not have the ByPass built into the oil pump, oil starvation can occur. The only AMSOIL having 13/16” x 16 threads and having a built in ByPass valve is the EaO52. Its flow rate is similar – 9 – 11 gpm. Its by Pass is set at 15 psid. It matches up with Wit 57202 as shown below:

I'm a preferred customer and use many of your products. My question pertains to my 2001 Porsche 911. I use an LN Engineering spin on filter adaptor for better filtering over the paper canister OE. The filter that Amsoil makes is the ea15K32. What is the flow rate of this filter in gpm's? LN recommends the Napa Gold due to it's 9- 11gpm flow rate. I'm hoping the ea15K32 is close. At what rate does the built in by pass in the ea filter open? Thanks.
Yeah I saw that, I'll go back to Gold on the next change. I've not noticed any difference in the oil pressure though. Anyway I've only used it twice (I change oil every 3-4 months and only drive it on weekends) so it probably won't hurt.

I had the spin on adapter and IMS upgrade done a few months ago at Flat 6. They recommend that I use the K&N brand oil filter. Part #HP-1007. Not sure why the change from their previously recommended NAPA one I had been using.
