And do I need to spend an additional $250 to get my brake fluid flushed every year and $150 to check for faults in my airbags like the dealer says?

I got the list of all the things they do for a 30k check-up, and will admit a few seem worthwhile – changing air filters, doing a fault diagnostic and checking for leaks.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, this is my first Porsche, so I’m open to suggestions and guidance, but $1000 for someone to check my tires and tell me that all my lights work seems overboard. I got the list of all the things they do for a 30k check-up, and will admit a few seem worthwhile – changing air filters, doing a fault diagnostic and checking for leaks. My oil was changed recently, so that doesn’t need to be done. Is everything else really necessary? And do I need to spend an additional $250 to get my brake fluid flushed every year and $150 to check for faults in my airbags like the dealer says? I certainly want to take care of my car, and am just trying to make an informed decision, as I am new to these cars. Thanks in advance…

POST 2Original post

That's like asking if an annual visit to the proctologist is necessary once you hit 40 - yes it's going to be painful, but the long-term consequences are worse. If cost is a concern you should take your car to an independent rather than a PAD; actually there are other reasons besides costs for taking your car to an independent.

POST 3Original post

I did mine myself and added a gt3 radiator at the same time. I changed the oil and filter, already added a bmc filter a few miles earlier, changed the tranny fluid, fuel filter, pollen filter with charcoal carbon one, changed and bled brake fluid, spark plugs, Doing all of these things weren't bad. The spark plugs were the most difficult but just required patience. The fuel filter was also somewhat annoying, but mainly because Senior Loren hadn't done a nice write up with instructions at that time (hint, hint). Seriously though Loren's tutorials are great and made it very easy and I would not hesitate doing any of it again. I could do all of it in a day easy if I had to again. Just have a torque wrench and the proper tools before you tackle anything. God I love snap on.

POST 5Original post

$1000.00?!!!! Holy smokes!!! I mean, we spend more than that for upgrades and trinkets for our toy, but for service? I just had the front rotors replaced on the minivan and it cost a whopping $180.00. parts, labor and taxes!!! I guess it has to be done, but I'm curious as to what they actually do that is worth $1000.00.

POST 6Original post

And this is why you don't buy a Pcar without service records.

POST 7Original post

and...this is why porsche is the most profitable car company known to man. cause there are enough of us paranoid, or lazy, or loaded enough to pay them...they charge lots cause research has proven to them that they can...it's simple business 101 guys.

POST 8Original post

Seriously! I think that I spent maybe 450 on everything and that is including pagid S pads!

POST 9Original post
