Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Can I hook up a 12V supply anywhere else which will allow me to at least get the bonnet open, so I can replace the battery?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Got back from hols and the car has set the 5 day central locking / alarm timer thingy - I opened the door with the key, but no alarm!!?? Tried the ignition, absolutely squat. The manual bonnet and boot releases do not work, as the central locking is on. Its a 98 996, so it does not have the post in the fusebox to connect up an auxiliary supply. I can't see any release cable, and its parked in a place where its going to be a real pain to dismantle the wheel arch covers. Can I hook up a 12V supply anywhere else which will allow me to at least get the bonnet open, so I can replace the battery? Before I go and buy a fag lighter charger, will that work? I know some cars have a diode in that supply so you cant backfeed the Battery through that way. Thanks and hoping for a top tip!

POST 2Original post

I keep my 996t topped up through the cigarette lighter.

POST 3Original post

Plug a battery conditioner/charger into the cigarette lighter socket, leave it overnight and cross your fingers....

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
