Or is there a simple fix eliminating the plastic bits altogether and use a nut, as a lock nut, on the backside of where the plastic bit would have been.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My headlight lens is held in by 3 screws which go through a plastic bit to hold the lens in place. One plastic bit has disintegrated, so the lens flops about as its only restrained by 2 screws and their plastic bits. Checking the Porsche katalogue  the plastic bits are shown in the “part 1A retaining frame” assembly, but does not have an individual part number for the 3 plastic bits. Has anyone come across this before? Is it a common VW part? Or is there a simple fix eliminating the plastic bits altogether and use a nut, as a lock nut, on the backside of where the plastic bit would have been. This would lock the headlight lens & assembly in place?

POST 2Original post

Hey Brian.  My little itzy bitzy bits are metal on my 924.  You could potentially pick up the brackets from someone wrecking a real Porsche and never have to deal with this again.

POST 3Original post

use some regular hex or even wing nuts, before and after the bracket. Snug them up tight and maybe some Loctite when you have them adjusted and they should be okay.

POST 4Original post

A nutsert of the appropriate size could work. Just be sure to use aluminium as they are softer.
