When I started the project I swapped the original comfort sports seats with Lee for some leather OEM GT3 buckets that he was taking out of his then car.

So you now have the 7GT3 with 997 CS seats to replace the comforts that were originally in the RPM car?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening After a lot of soul searching I decided today to swap my 996.2 GT3 for a 997.1 GT3 Clubsport. My biggest worry was that I would miss the 6 and find it hard to replace, but then thought life is short, all about experiences and as an enthusiast of the marque I should own a 7 GT3 at some point. Plus the one I have bought looks epic - see below - which helps! Slowly ticking the variants off in chronological order as have done both generations of 6 GT3 now. Just 7.2 and the RS versions to go... As per other thread I'll be running this car on OEM actives for a while to understand how they work on road and track and then will switch to passive shocks at some point next year. Short test drive revealed a much more composed road car with more low down grunt. A better picture will be revealed at Silly GP on 23rd Nov! Cheers Slodge

POST 3Original post

Fair play to you. The car looks lovely. Funnily enough I was having exactly the same thoughts today with my mk1GT3, clubsport spec. I noticed the JZM car and thought that looked lovely, almost identical to your one in the pics. Bet you will find the 997 so much easier to drive fast on our harsh roads, hope you don't miss the 6 but as you say nice to try everything. I would have liked the orange RS997 from an earlier post recently. Enjoy the new car, did you trade in the 996. Thought would sell fast privately?

Thanks dude, I thought about 997.1 RS but TBH they are getting to the level where I'd think twice about using it as intended. Traded the 6.2. Had a lot of mods so thought best plan was to sell through the Indy that did all the work on it, plus they are good mates go always do me a very good deal! MK 1 GT3 CS is a very special thing, but we can't help chopping our cars around. Whatever you decide you'll have a great machine! Cheers Slodge

Welcome to the fold, looks like a cracking example. Main thing to get used to in the 7GT3 compared to the 6, esp in this cold weather will be the TCS, both with sport on and off. I find that 99/100 times its a reliable system that can be leaned on in bad conditions, but on the odd occasion I have had it fully sideways with TCS on and sport on, so just beware that it's not a stability control system and will only do so much. Appreciate you have plenty of experience with no TCS, but just pointing out its still a fairly mild safety net - not like TCS & Stability combined systems on non GT Porsche. Play around with it and see how you go. Enjoy the car! Oh and check out this new suspension module doing the rounds on rennlist, alternative to passives.

Lovely looking car mate, congratulations I have the 'negative' of your car, GT silver with silver wheels, these GT3's really get under your skin! I see you have PCCB's, are you putting on some steels for track work? Alcon conversion from JZM?

PCCBs unused and nicely packed away in a box, Alcons on the front and Porsche OEM steels on the back with Pagid R29s all round. Found it worked well on the 6 so keeping that set up for now. Im not sure what to do with my Ceramics. Im thinking keep them then when the pads need replacing have the conversion then. I was very cautious on a recent track day, let them warm up and cool down but still nervous of potential disaster!

I think my view was in the long term if these cars keep rising in value at some point they will get into the beardy realm and at that point people want fully original spec. Also the cost of replacement of PCCBs is properly eye watering. Rotors are an easy swap and Alcons can stand up to some monstrous hammering. Cheers Slodge

alcon/Surface transform/movit do carbon replacements for less cost than OEM. 6k all round last time i checked. I would do those instead if RPM hasn't gotten the steels on.

A new one jack? Cannot make my mind up what to do with mine - I might be able to get my hands on a 997.1CS this week but not sure if selling mine is the right thing to do?

POST 47Original post

If you can afford to, I'd say try to keep the 996GT3 - try out the 997.1CS and then see which you prefer...again, if you can afford to, keep both anyway! You may find you prefer one for enthusiastic track use and the other for sunday road driving... ...plus there is very little £ penalty for keeping both..or the contrary even.

Good advice - totally on board with that, but the missus' outrageous demands to move to a house with a garden now we have kids might scupper that plan......... Otherwise sounds like utopia to me!!!!

That was my plan initially, but renovation of a new house took priority over 2 x GT3s unfortunately. I hope I have enough left over to get a 6GT3 CS next year or better still a 6Cup! Cheers Slodge

So you're preferring the 997 or have you just done the whole 996 thing (at the moment) Having gone from one to the other are they quicker, more solid etc etc - I know this has been done death on here but it sounds like you're a few steps further down the path than me

Phhowwwar sexy - love the look of that 7.1 GT3 2. My GT3 comfort, modded to the extreme project is worth how much as a PX?! 3. Short test drive - yep it is still a proper manual GT3, sounds fab and will be far more habitable on Euro trips Am doing Silverstone GP on 23rd November so will report back then after a proper road trip and track session. Cheers Slodge

POST 56 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd add that if my 6 had been a clubsport in a loud colour I may have stayed put. I think a heavily modded silver comfort has a ceiling. Very much enjoyed the journey and feel I really understand the platform now. As said earlier you can always go back if you have the coin, but I want to try new things and will never know if I like the 6 over the 7 or vice versa unless I walk the walk and actually own them. Better to have loved and lost... Cheers Slodge Edited by slodge on Sunday 9th November 16:03

Thanks Slodge That's my dilemma - I have a 2005 CS which I've put pretty much back to standard - just waiting for the fire-extinguisher to arrive to get it sorted back to factory spec - I absolutely love it and am almost scared to part with it because 'value' is becoming a increasing part of the ownership package That said, I agree with everything you've mentioned above - the 997 is a great package - looks and sounds amazing - I've always wanted one and being honest only got the 96 'cos I couldn't afford a 997 at the time Choices choices

I guess you can console yourself that whatever you decide they are both completely awesome, just slightly different types of awesome! If you want to have some pax laps come to Silly GP on 23rd, there with a few other Porkers in my garage. LaSource also in attendance with his 6 CS for comparison purposes Cheers Slodge

Looks like a very fair price for a nice 997gt3. Be interested to see what your 996 ends up retailing for.....not that I can afford it lol

Lots of interest already apparently. As I said I have no financial interest in it now, but if anyone wants info let me know. No garage queen, but zero over revs and original panels. Cheers Slodge

You'll want to wrap your 996 in red and keep it for ever Its oh so very well set up....I've been decimating my lap times at key circuits - sillystone, spa, ring (though smaller margin at ring as going faster is just too scary!)

Ha know what you mean - nurburgring is getting far too dodgy - even if you are some kind of god and can drive fast whilst keeping it on the Tarmac there remains a chance you'll get torpedo'd by some loon in a mini metro.......

Having watched your Spa video I am certain I made the right choice with my K400. In fact I may join you at Sillystone - still got to figure out how she drives in the dry (fingers crossed the weather gods smile upon us on the day). Setterton in the wet was a right hoot, if only I was missing my flippers and schnorkel... Would love to bag a px lap if possible.

Feels much more modern than 6 GT3. Loads of grunt. Loads of toys. It's going to be a fantastic daily drive. Seem a safe place financially as well. Prices haven't moved much in the last couple of years.
