Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Newbie question. When I read 285-30ZR-18 n2, what do these measurements mean?

POST 2Original post

285 is the width of the tire in mm 30 is the sidewall height measured as a proportion of the width of the tire (why they did this...I don't know...) ZR=Z rated tire...which is as good as it gets. Check out tirerack.com to learn more about speed ratings...or just search google. -18=will work with an 18 inch wheel. n2-this is where I'll leave it to the experts...

POST 3Original post

If it is a Michlin Pilot Sport there are two different tread designs N1 and N2

POST 4Original post

I have pirelli asimmetrico with N3, what is that mean?

POST 5Original post

Porsche is the only make that orders tires to their own specifications in terms of tread compounding , carcass specs or sometimes slight tread pattern mods to optimize to their suspensions for handling and high speed use. That's why you will see the same sizes at Tire Rack, some with the N spec( for Porsches) and some without. They start at N0 for each brand name like P Zero Rosso or Conti Sport2 and progress upwards from there , but occasionally will skip a number - it's all a bit mysterious how they are serialized. This doesn't get into the separate discussion whether you need to get N tires for US road use speeds .

POST 6Original post

I also was curious about the "N" id in the tire description. I did a search on Tire Rack yesterday and they explained that this is a Porsche tire approval nomenclature. The incrementing number (N0,N1,N3) indicates the tire manufacture has updated the design of the tire model and subsequently it has been approved by Porsche. I just purchased my "previously driven" C2 and was searching for a message board on Google and came across this discussion forum. I think this forum is great!!
