I'd say a scammer -- 3 day auction no reserve means he doesnt care what the "cars" sell for, just that there will be $$ "wire or overnight cashiers check" coming his way.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How's this for detective work?? think this is a scammer? the guy is currently selling 6 cars on ebay. his feedback is 100% positive -- 48 positives -- HOWEVER!! 41 of those positives were received on ONE DAY -- May 15! And 4 more on May 17! All as a BUYER. AND they are ALL (i think) for items that are 99 cents or $1. I think he bought a load of items for 99c each, paid for them so he got positive feedback (47 items at $1 each, about $50+ship). And now he's selling 6 cars. Also all of his car auctions are 3-day no reserve auctions, and all of his "high bidders" have 0 feedback. Whaddya think??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2415609331

POST 2Original post

sounds fishy. he just had his friends increase his credibility. But you are too smart, you saw through his plan. Don't want to call the guy scammer or anything. he could be legit and needs to make his money somehow! It's hard to sell cars on ebay when u are not established. get it? I think with 996 and cayenne t, and toyota's sale u can get into a new one for very little. :-) my 2 cents

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd say a scammer -- 3 day auction no reserve means he doesnt care what the "cars" sell for, just that there will be $$ "wire or overnight cashiers check" coming his way. And since he has no previous sales and suddenly 6 cars at a time? I'd say its a scam! I just want a beater fullsize pickup truck for moving and hauling dirt/etc. Prob will end up with an early 90s GMC or something for a couple grand.

POST 4Original post

The person went from buying 99 cent food recipes, to selling cars most of which have high miles. Maybe he has to sell some cars to buy some more recipes. Jeff

POST 5Original post

Did anyone think to point this out to eBay? They need to know.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I of course did email ebay but doubt they'll act fast enough to do anything...

POST 7Original post

I bought a notebook computer from a guy on eBay that also had dozens of positives from 99 cent purchases, his name wasn't the name on his eBay account, I couldn't reach him at the phone number eBay provided, and he insisted that I wire the money, and not go though an escrow service. I was very nervous about the transaction, to say the least. Conversations with two different CSR's at my visa card center confirmed that, even when I spelled out everything suspicious listed above, my transaction would be covered by their fraud protection insurance. I got the notebook. The guy didn't scam me. I guess he just felt he needed to build up positive feedback cheap and quick. It was his girlfriend's eBay account. I spoke to them both on the phone (they called me in response to an email), and everything seems legit. So while this guy looks like a scammer (and I'd bet he is), it ain't always the way it appears!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'd agree except for the added items of: 3 day no reserve auctions on cars, and all high bidders have 0 feedback. Caveat emptor on ebay and anywhere else. I use ebay all the time (698 positives, 0 negatives)... just gotta be smart!
