All control arms and bushes were replaced, the shocks show no sign of leakage so i left them as they were.

I had new discs and pads put on the rear but most importantly I renewed the suspension.

In recent weeks I have thought about replacing the 996tt with an R8, something Italian, something British or another 911.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.
911uk: 1 discussions
0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Drove a 996tt myself last weekend when down in Chichester and they have phenomenal performance, and yet so comfortable to drive.....still not sure whether to keep the 993 and visit the ninemeister or invest in a turbo.
For those of you that know me you know that I often think about what car to get next. In recent weeks I have thought about replacing the 996tt with an R8, something Italian, something British or another 911. At the end of the day I keep coming back to the fact that Terry (as I affectionally call my car) is without doubt the best car I have ever owned and probably driven.
I have had it for 3 years now and have covered 40k+ miles in it . It has been on a mammoth trip around the whole of the British Isles, to Le Mans, into the Swiss Alps, a few trips to the 'Ring and a few UK trackdays. Sure I have had a couple of issues with it - the second gear synchro went at 30,000 miles requiring a gearbox rebuild (warranty) one of the valves got sticky requiring an engine out fix (warranty) and a few microsensors in the locking mechanisms have failed.
As it stands now I have probably lost in the region of £20k in depreciation over the three years and now I think the car is worth low £30k's. So do I change it or refresh it? I don't think a well cared for example is going to lose too much more over the next couple of years unlike any of the other cars I have been considering.
I therefore have decided to refresh it and run it for a couple more years. Last week I had some rads replaced just before the warranty expired. I had new discs and pads put on the rear but most importantly I renewed the suspension.
I did think about coilovers and having it lowered a bit but this is my everyday car and practicality has to win over vanity. All control arms and bushes were replaced, the shocks show no sign of leakage so i left them as they were. A fast road geo was carried out and hell, am I impressed with the results. Terry is transformed. If you use your car every day you don't really notice the gradual decline in the handling. Terry is as tight now as the day it came out of the factory. I have a trackday booked for Nov 21st and after that there is a new set of MPS2's waiting to be fitted. These cars although relatively cheap to buy still cost a fair bit to maintain to a high standard. I have spent thousands and thousands in the last three years but they really are worth every penny.
Terry has been lightly modified with a Revo remap and an EVOMS induction kit and is pushing something close to 500bhp. I have now decided to take it out of the OPC warranty and am going to tweak it a little more. In the next few months it will have new Divertor valves, silicon hoses, Cargraphic exhaust system and more efficient intercoolers put on it. I would like to think I can push the output upto around 540 - 550 bhp. At this point it would be wise to put 6 pot calipers on the front.
Just thought I would share that with you all 8) 8)
As a fellow member of the Turbo enthusiasts club I'm watching with interest...
I still like the look and sound of a V8 Vantage more than the Turbo, but the performance...
(and mine's still standard - I think!)
Good decision Dave :thumb:
Dave I think its the way to go after spending a good few quid this week on mine this week
My car has never felt so sorted and was a joy to drive last night
Get some more horses under the hood :thumb: :thumb: as thats where I am going next
That is definitely the best site header ever - I've been meaning to comment since it arrived. Much better than that GT3 with the wonky wheels!!
Thanks for that Dave, I'm glad you've decided to avoid the 'grass is greener' syndrome and give Terence a new lease of life. Drove a 996tt myself last weekend when down in Chichester and they have phenomenal performance, and yet so comfortable to drive.....still not sure whether to keep the 993 and visit the ninemeister or invest in a turbo. All the best, Bob.
