Hello,
I have a
2008 Cayman S
with
Bose
and CDR-24. I'd really like to add my
iPod
Touch and have been considering the Denison. I read K-man's excellent install article. Is the Dension still the best option? If so, is Bumperplugs the best place to order one? My wife and I are driving to Atlanta to see Weezer
next
weekend, and I'd love to get something installed before then.
Thanks,
Tony
Hi,
I didnt think the Dension worked with the CDR-24. Plus at that price, I would either change out the head unit, or, even better from cost perspective, get the Alpine ex-10.
Thanks Joe D.
I think you need
PCM
for the Dension to work!

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
PCM
is not required for the Denison. It looks much easier to control with
PCM
, but can be done with CDR-24.
If I had the cdr-24 with no intentions of changing, I would use a wired FM modulator. The ability to change tracks from the head-unit doesn't mean much too me without being able to see what I'm actually doing in text. The slight boost in audio quality because of a slightly greater tonal range and digital signal would barely be perceptible in a poor listening environment such as the
Cayman
's cabin. Not to mention with aac and mp3 compression used on the
iPod
, you're not taking full advantage of a digital MOST connection between the
iPod
and stereo anyways.
With the
PCM
, I believe the Dension is the most common and proven audio interface on the market today and I love mine. The audio quality is phenomenal, but a properly installed and grounded wired FM modulator should sound almost as good.
That's funny, I could have sworn that I listened to my
iPod
via my Dension running through my CDR-24 on the way to work this morning.
Re: the Alpine, it's an FM transmitter, which will at best cause a loss of frequencies above 15 khz and at worse provide a lot of static. I've never tried an FM transmitter that has provided satisfactory sound quality.
Thanks for the responses. Suneet--which wired FM transmitter would you recommend? The official
Porsche
one is almost the cost of the Dension.
Loki, I've heard good things about the Scosche FM modulator... about $25 online from
Amazon
. You can get FM modulators locally at Bestbuy/Circuit City as well and they will typically even install them for around $70. You will need an antenna adapter/bypass for a European car stereo, available through bestbuy or
crutchfield
.com.
I spent several hundred dollars installing a
Kenwood
FM modulator. You have to turn the volume to max to get decent sound. I would install the Denson if I had a chance to start over. I'm thinking seriously replacing the FM modulator
next
year with the Denson on my
Bose
CDR-24.
I have the Dension w/ CDR-24 in my CS and set up to control via the
Ipod
unit. I replaced the head unit in my truck with a
Kenwood
(plus amps and subs). Although the sound system is now better in my truck, I much prefer to use the
Ipod
unit to control my tunes (which my truck system locks me out of).
