Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All... I just stumbled across this board while doing some research for my next vehicle. Great site. I have 2 months before my current lease (Audi) expires and was wondering what some of the folks out there got for a competitive lease deal. I'm looking for a lightly optioned 2002 - 2003 996 and I'm wondering if finding a car for under $800/month ($900?) is anywhere near possible for approx. 6k - 7k down.

POST 2Original post

Take a look at the Ebay auto auctions, as well as Autotrader.com. Also do a search on this board for "lease" or "leasing", as there are good leasing rules and lessons, one being that you don't want to put anything down, another being that you can shop for low money factors. Happy hunting!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the feedback. I have scoured the web looking for used 996's including ebay and autotrader. I was (am) looking for a '99 or '00, but was curious what some of the deals everyone out there got.

POST 4Original post

I just bought a used 996, but while looking I came across some incredible lease deals. I could find a HIGHLY optioned cab with $7k down for less than $850/mo. for 48 months. So it would seem to me that a basic coupe would be much less. Do the math this way: take the retail price, ($87k on the cab I was looking for), then find the wholesale price somwhere ($74k on the cab), add in a fair amount for the dealer ($4k on mine). Get them to tell you the MONEY FACTOR (this is how they hide the interest rate from you). Take the money factor and multiply by 2400 to get an interest rate. So a money factor of .0019 would be 4.56, and that's the interest rate. Finally, get them to tell you the residual at the end of the lease. Now you have all of the components you need to negotiate. Take the retail price and divide by the residual. 55% of my cab's $87k would have been $47,850. The amount I'd be paying on the lease would only be on the depreciation of the car from the amount I paid - $78k - to the amount it would be worth at the end - $47.8k - plus the tax and interest rate of 4.5% on the total. If I Cap Reduced the total ($78k minus $7k) it reduces it even more. In this case to under $800 a month. Sorry if that was confusing - send me your e-mail & I'll send you an Excel spreadsheet that'll do it automatically for you. Final note: lots of dealers don't like it when you know as much as they do about this stuff, and many of them won't meet your offer - even if it makes sense for them to do so. But some will - absolutely. And remember that an extra $50 a month sounds like peanuts, but it's really $2,400 by the time your lease is up, so don't get bullied into a bad deal when you definitely don't have to. Just my 9 cents...

I found http://jenkinsautosales.com to have some of the best lease deals for slightly used 996 and Boxters. I got my 2000 996 with 11K for miles 1yr ago for $3500 down and $750 per month. Aero Package, Sport Seats, 18" Kinesis The shipping from Florida to CA was not bad either.

Go to www.leasecompare.com. Enter all the info of any used car and you will see what the lease price is. You may be able to get slightly better rates but the price they quote is pretty accurate.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I made the plunge a few weeks back. Here is what I got (thanks for all the help to those that responded). Sticker was $80k and I got a 48 month lease for $836 per month putting $4600 down. I'm happy with the deal and the car drives like a dream. Thanks again!

POST 9Original post

As of two months ago, I was vacillating between buying or leasing and I found this deal at The Advantage Group in Texas: Used, well-optioned '02 C2 6-spd w/10K miles. $2,000 drive-off, $700/mo. + tax for 36-months with a $33,000 residual. Limits on mileage were 15,000/yr. FICO needs to be in the high 600s. Audi leasing was underwriting the deal.
