It could be but I would have it properly diagnosed before deciding whether you need a clutch, fluid change, adjustment....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. something happen to my first post so I will try again i just purchased this car about a month ago i knew I would have to fix her a bit and two weeks ago the clutch was having issues i live in a small town in south Texas. We have two qualified shops to work on a Porsche. well I just picked up the car with the new clutch and flywheel. Shifted like butter. But this evening after taking the wife to dinner. I lost first and reverse. I was able to limp home in second gear with the hazards on, very sad moment. I want to assume the liability resides with the mechanic. It never showed this problem before. I am looking for advice, how do I proceed. The clutch and flywheel were original New Porsche parts, as I was told , and it wasn’t a cheap repair. Could he have damaged the gear box? Or installed the clutch wrong? I am sad and confused.

POST 2Original post

Hi Guys, I was driving a 5th gear and tried to shift to the 6th, and it didn't engage. I stopped the car and tried a few times before I can put it in the 1st gear. Is it time for a new clutch? My only has 48K miles. Do you know how much to get a new clutch? Thank you all for all the advices

POST 3Original post

There is a good possibility it is just a linkage or shifter problem so don’t jump off of the cliff just yet.

POST 5Original post

I agree, it might be an inexpensive fix. Take it back to the shop that installed the clutch. Keep us posted.

POST 6Original post

48k seems a bit short. Mine went 65k good luck JB

POST 7Original post

Seems like it. In SoCal it is going to cost between $1400 to $1900.

POST 8Original post

Sounds like a clutch adjustment to me. FYI, having driven sticks for the past 40 years, I always go to 2nd gear before 1st gear. Makes for a smoother 1 gear engagement. Good luck.
