I would think buying the older disk just to get the ROM image for this repair purpose would not be cost effective.

=) Any other suggestions where I can get hold of the v04202 software or how to reset the unit to factory settings?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I know this is a Cayman forum but I hope you guys will help me anyway. To make a long story short. I have updated my PCM with new software, to be exact v05024, Mod level B to make my 2006 Navigation DVD to work. (Did this because I have an imported 997 (from USA) and wanted to get the navigation to work with the European DVD 2006 that I got from a friend) Now I have realized after many hours of consultation (Forums, OPC and entusiasts) that I had the basic software from the beginning (v04035) and in order to get to v05024 I need to install v04202 before installing the v05024. Now I have a PCM without amp. software (No sound from speakers) and wrong PCM version. I have spoken with Porsche center and they say I need to buy navigation DVD 2004 (including update discs v04202) to make it work again, total cost of 1000 USD =( Is this the price I have to pay for being an impatient fool? =) Any other suggestions where I can get hold of the v04202 software or how to reset the unit to factory settings?

POST 2Original post

If they are correct you would need an older DVD to load the older ROM image into the PCM's memory. You might be able to find that on Ebay or possibly even a US salvage yard that has a wrecked Porsche from 2004-2006 that had PCM or something like that. I would think buying the older disk just to get the ROM image for this repair purpose would not be cost effective. I'm surprised the dealership doesn't have any old ones laying around from when people upgraded their old ones to newer ones. It might be worthwhile to run a wanted ad in your local Porsche enthusiast magazines/newsletters and see if any owners in your area have an old disk you can borrow. Best of luck!
