Here's a question for the radar detector experts/pundits...
The previous owner of my CS evidently had a K40 Calibre system installed, and then removed it. As far as I can tell, the only thing left in the car is the set of lights in the dash, just above the steering wheel, and a few cut outs for the laser and radar antennas. After some research, it seems the K40 is merely average is coverage, and would rather go with the SRX.
So here's the question: Since I like the covert lights already installed, is there a way to install a Passport and use those lights instead of the regular interface?
Just wondering...
Contact the folks at
Escort
and ask for the 'Concealed Display' for the SRX.
The SRX is capabe stealth installation by using this concealed display and their external amplified speaker. With these two pieces, you could install the control head in a hidden location, like the glove box, and still hear the warning tones and be alerted by the concealed LED.
In the old days, they called this the SRX-HV. You are correct, the SRX absolutely smokes the K-40 in regard to performance. No comparison.
Probably not.
In my experience there is 0 compatibility between radar detector electronics from different manufacturers.
I didn't mean to suggest that the parts are compatible, only that you might be able to use the K-40 LED as the concealed LED (an electronic tech can test to verify). If not, the Escort LED can be installed in the same place.
Oh, not implying that you were.
Just answering his original question.
My dad was trying to use an Escort remote LED unit for his Beltronics detector, and it was totally incompatible. This even considering that Beltronics and Escort are the same company, building detectors at the same factory. I know in particular that power cords are rarely the same. Guess they don't want you mixing and matching products with the distinguished competition.
V1 and Escort (7500/8500, at least) power cords and direct wiring kits are interchangeable.
Thanks for the info. I would imagine the lights can be hooked up regardless of the system, provided the voltage is the same. If not, it's still fun to try! Besides, what better excuse to dig under the dash...
