As it can be retro-fitted without the pointless dash wart, I wouldn't worry.

I believe pads are a similar price to steels, but get changed slightly more often.

So people, all I would say is if your looking at a black manual 600hp dms mapped car I would strongly recommend a PPI to be safe!!

Suggestion
It's fast enough without overboost and the suspension changes are back breaking unless you are on a really smooth A road.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having considered 996 turbos I have now decided it has to be a 997 turbo gen 1 (pref a cab). Ive decided that it has got to be black and manual. I have seen a few for sale without sport chrono that seem to sit around for ages. Is SC that vital? Is it purely a resale issue or does it make a massive difference? What are people's thoughts on pccb, are they must have?
Chrono is a must. Pccb are nice to have since they don't rust and no brake dust. Just make sure they haven't been tracked on a regular basis since if there are hidden problems, it will be very expensive. Also make sure the tyres are changed carefully - too much chipping of the disks is game over and expensive. Other advantage is lack of fade if you really using the brakes a lot like ... Err... On the track
They don't stop you any quicker IMHO but iirc the unsprung mass is less.
When I was looking for a 997.1tt a few months ago I decided not to rule out cars that lacked SC as I knew the overboost function could be retrofitted and the stopwatch seemed like a gimmick which I could do without..
Because most people see it as essential (see previous posts) the price of non SC cars is generally that bit cheaper, so if you find the right car and feel you need it just get the sport button added by an OPC.
In fact I ended up buying a car without SC with the intention of getting it fitted, however coming from a 996 C4S the performance of the turbo felt properly quick and having an additional 50nm of torque wasn't high on the list of things I thought it needed!!
That said I will probably get it fitted in due course along with the short shift kit...
Would have liked PCCB's and just missed out on a car with them, but given the potential costs involved I'm happy enough without.
Mine has heated Adaptive Sports Seats which were a must have on my list and also extended leather on the centre console which helps lift the interior.
Good luck with the search
I've recently started looking for 997 Turbo, thought it would be easy tbh but it's proving not so.
Manual, sports chrono, adaptive seats and ideally PCCB.....without major over revs. Most that come up seem to be tiptronic.
I agree. There seem to be a lot of Tiptronic cars out there and good manual cars seem to sell quickly.
If you buy a manual there is always the risk of over revs. Mine is a manual and has ignitions in ranges 1-3 which I would prefer not to be there, but in the end it was a risk I was prepared to accept. So far so good!
Same problem, so ended up going for 997 Pdk instead.
The Rev range, if acceptable risk, is a good way of knocking monies off since to get it onto the opc warranty you need a £500+ compression test.
I'm not worried about rr1-3 data. However, I wouldn't buy one with data 4 or above.
I wouldn't buy tip, I would buy pdk but they are more than I want to spend.
Not black but this one is worth a close look. He bought it from RSJ and then immediately wanted to sell it which is never a good sign but if its one of RSJs cars should hopefully be a goodun.

Definately nothing wrong with it.....it's actually my car...i change cars very quickly.....
Thanks

I would just buy on condition and have a look through the service history. Mine has 1 ignition in RR4 and a few in the 1-3RR. These occured when the clutch was depressed which shouldn't even be possible because of the rev limiter according to my OPC. However, the car is pampered and the warrenty was increased for anouther year without a compression test.
I wouldn't have bought one without SC, but now that I have it, I never use it.

Took me a year to find my ideal manual car. All I wanted was sensible miles, not black silver or grey (pref cobalt) and adaptive seats.

Why did you feel the need to put
Sport Chrono (Needed on a Turbo)
?
Genuinely interested.

You had my excited there...could have lived with the blue leather and the rest of the spec is the exact Im looking for. Then I realised it's a cab. Doh.

I think if less than 3 ignitions then it's thought to be an error and wouldn't worry me.

I'm the same, never use my overboost. However you know that after you turn on sport button you can press the PASM button again to turn it off and the sport button stays on?

exactly what I do - SC is a must becasue who doesn't want a bit more boost? Hard to find a 997TT without it I found
adaptive seats are excellent too
I drove a Gen 2 997 Turbo several times and would vouch for the pccbs.
Assuming it's not been tracked extensively, the discs should be good for 100,000 mls ++. I believe pads are a similar price to steels, but get changed slightly more often.
Two 997 turbo coupes came up this week (both 40k ish miles) at £35k and £38k. At this rate 996 and 997 prices are going to merge!! How can 996 not be dropping? Why would anyone buy a 6 over a 7 if they are only a few k apart?
I tend to use the sport button when on a duel carriageway or motorway for effortless overtakes as the extra torque in sixth gear is nice. Still switch the PASM back to normal though.
Not only are PCCB discs expensive, the pads are too!
I went for the 996 Turbo S, Maual, Coupe, black, black, aero kit and sports seats. Sub 30k on the clock, immaculate......I could have purchased a 997TT but I love the way the 996 looks.
996 turbo prices will or have started to merge with 997 turbo. Although at present high milage 997TT are compareable to mid-milage 996TT.
996 Turbo S prices are very firm at the moment, probably due to limited numbers.
Just my 2p's worth.

If i were to wind back the clock, i'd test drive a 996 Turbo against a 997 Turbo before making a decision.
I had a Gen 1 997 Turbo followed by a Gen 2. The latter was so much better that i decided that, as a result, the Gen 1 997 Turbo is a pretty average car and i wouldn't of bought it if i were back in that position knowing what i do now. Does that make sense?!
As a result, i would suggest drive the 996 Turbo because if it is virtually the same in performance and handling then you may as well get one of those, assuming they can be had cheaper. My only issue would be the horrific interior.
My actual choice at this sort of price point is an M3 CSL though. It's easy to get Porsche blinkers; there are plenty of decent cars to be had at this money.

where? in PH?
I agree test drive the cars and see which you prefer. I prefered the 996tt to the 997tt gen 1. Gen 2 was out of my budget so can not comment.
It is fair to say 996tt and 997tt gen 1 is similar but the steering and rear drive feel of the 996tt was the moment of truth for me.
Both cracking cars and by no means average.

Are you comparing like for like? I.E. are the 997's private sales and the 996's dealer cars?
It does make me chuckle when people say oh look model A is worth more than model B when model B is high miler or private sale and model A isn't.
On that score 997's must only be worth £28,000 as in the last twelve months one sold for that, that had done 120k miles. Forget it if you think I would part with my car for that

A lot of the 6s have higher mileage (even the highly priced ones). Both 7's were 40-50k miles (had SC). There are always going to be higher mileage cheap cars; that's not what I'm looking for.
For me, and it's personal, I considerably prefer the look of the 7, which is a big part of why I want one over a 6. Both are fast cars and speed difference is irrelevant to me.
Strangest conversation ever. About two weeks ago I spoke to a trader about a black/black manual 997 turbo. 44k mile car which had a dms 600 hp conversion. I asked him about condition and he said it was great. I said I was quite fussy condition wise and did it have any marks, he said no. I ask about DME rev range data and he says that it was average but couldn't give details. He said he knew the guy at dms well. I asked if he could have a little chat with him and get the data as it would be very helpful to me. I phone back the next day and he tells me it's sold. A couple of weeks pass and it's still for sale so I think sale may have fallen through (may have had a time waster etc) and I phone back. He says it's still for sale but it's not the car for me. Curious, I ask why? He says because I'm fussy and it's scruffy. This is rather strange as that isn't what he previously told me.

Seller clearly knew he wouldn't be able to sell his less than perfect car to you
standard dealer BS
1. never admit to any faults, or describe car that has not been seen by him yet
2. don't admit your BS so say car is sold
3. realise it would waste their time to debate with you, so finally admit car has faults
