I need to change the black plastic bit, its nothing serious but a firm has quoted me £ 70 for a paint and repair already told me it WILL NOT be perfect as making a paint finish on plastic look like plastic is almost impossible.

To be honest the C4S lip is easy to sand and colour using any "back to black" type application.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Guys I have damaged by front splitter in a supermarket carpark, does anyone know how hard they are to change? I need to change the black plastic bit, its nothing serious but a firm has quoted me £ 70 for a paint and repair already told me it WILL NOT be perfect as making a paint finish on plastic look like plastic is almost impossible. Figured i may as well change it. There is a photo below of the offending part (before the damage). I do not really want to start removing the whole bumper! Does it just screw on? Whilst I am on, I need to get some stone chips sorted, are Chips Away the best? I have also asked for a quote from a company called Revive (some kind of national franchise). When this is done I want the car clay barring, and generally making look mint, I don 't think its ever been done as there are lots of swirls, etc. Cannot belive the prices, some people are advertising thet they charge between £300 -£500! I had my S3 done about two years ago and it was only £170 for the works (buffing etc) but can 't remember the guy's details! : Frustrated: I need the work doing in Southampton Any help / advice appreciated, thanks

POST 3Original post

I get through a front splitter every 8 months or so due to the fact that it scrapes the pavement every time I move on or off my drive. It is a very simple job requiring the removal of a Phillips screw at either end of the splitter at the front of the wheel arch. Once they are removed you just need to tug the splitter off. Put the new one and push into place. Tighten screws and job done. 5 minutes max.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great, cheers Dave. Will a Turbo one fit straight on a 4S? It may be worth doing while I am at it........?

POST 5Original post

I did try a C4S splitter on my turbo before as it gave me a little more clearance so there should be no problem going the other way.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Dave, Turbo it is then!

POST 7Original post

Just be aware you are more likely to catch the turbo one as it hangs lower in the centre. I think it was a only month after renewing mine that I caught it again for the first time. It's not very noticeable and nor is your damage so if I was you I would live with it until it really starts to look tatty.

POST 8Original post

If you are spending money then upgrade to a turbo front lip - but its roughly twice the cost from memory (about 190 vs 100ish). To be honest the C4S lip is easy to sand and colour using any "back to black" type application. Yours does not look too bad and remember this is a consumable so I would sand it and wait till you next twat it, then buy a turbo pu or an aero spoiler with the money you save in the meantime.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
