This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm getting some serious squeaking from the front suspension. It's fine during 'normal' driving, but very evident if I go over a decent sized speed bump. Is this likely to 'just' be bushes? I also suspect that my clutch may be on the way out. Again, it's absolutely fine during 'normal' driving, but on two occasions it has slipped. On one of those occasions I'd let the clutching out fairly quickly whilst having the revs at about 3000 rpm, and the car made a lot of noise and didn't move. On the second, it slipped a little when I shifted into second under maximum acceleration. Finally, I thnk my handbrake is also on the way out. If I put in on when I'm on a slight slope the car rolls for about a foot before stopping. Is this likely to require replacement parts, or just a tightening? Any ideas on parts cost for the above? I.e. to stop the squeak (which I assume is bushes), a replacement clutch, and repairs to the handbrake?

POST 2Original post

The suspension could be anything from bushes to control arms so couldn't really give you an estimate. The Handbrake will just need adjusting so not a big issue there. The Clutch for a N/A car is about £650 or for a Turbo about £1k plus VAT at a good Indy I see you are in Manchester - Give Mike a Call at Sports and Classic in mobberley he advertises on this site as well.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

£650 for a new clutch? Wow, a bit more than I was expecting. Oh well, if it needs doing, it needs doing. Actually, based on my description of the problem, does it sound like there's a problem, or is some slippage to be expected under heavy load in a car like this? (I've never owned a car this powerful before) Knowing my luck it'll be the control arms that need replacing. How much are they? I'm actually on Hartech's plan (which is why i'm only really concerned about parts cost), I'll give them a call tomorrow, I just wanted to get a rough idea of expected costs. Many thanks

POST 4Original post

These are for genuine Porsche parts, Clutch kit - £399.79+vat (A Sachs kit is as good as the original, and most people think that Sachs make them for Porsche) Wishbone (coffin arm) - £208.20+vat (Hartech do exchange units) If the clutch is slipping, it is definitely on the way out. Another indication is that the pedal gets heavy.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Richard. The clutch pedal itself seems absolutely fine, although there's a slight squeek coming from that also. From what I've read elsewhere I thought that likely to be the assistor spring (or whatever it's called).

Control arms are often up for sale on E Bay for £100
