With our Honda Ody it came with XM radio free for 3 months, after which they kept wanting us to continue service and kept dropping the price until it was something like $60/year so we did 1 year and ended up not caring that much for it, but at least the $60 price was about 1/2 of the normal price.
Well last year we got the Jeep with 1 year of Free Sirius. Last month I got a letter reminding me we are expiring in October and to renew and we could get 1 month free. Oooo ahhhh, I ignored the letter. So yesterday I got another letter and this time its 24 months for $249, which is about 5 months free if you do the 2 year plan. So in essence they are improving the plan the closer I get to expiring just like XM.
My question is how low will they go? What's the cheapest Sirius is going to come back with before our expiration which is now about 4 weeks away? On the Honda site there was a code that was shared among members to get the $60 deal, does anyone know of any Sirius "codes" to give the operator to get the best deal?
I noted from the 2 letters I received that the number you call to renew is different on each one, so it could be they route your call and give you pricing based on the number you call in on, which wouldn't surprise me.
Don't forget that there were several conditions set by regulators when they approved the XM/Sirius merger. The best to me is that they are required to offer a menu selection to pay for just the channels desired. Read all about it at
Sirius and XM Satellite Radio - Orbitcast
.
I went to that link but didn't see anything about it, where did I miss it???
You have to go back in time on the site. They are the Cayman Club of satellite radio.
Yup. Alla carte programming was a condition of the merger. I wish they would do this to the cable companies....
Do they have no way of linking to a specific blog entry??? Going back in time is silly unless I know how far to go back or what title I am looking for, etc. hence hoping you can give me a direct link to the pertinent info.
Sirius vs. XM
Having both, Sirius in the 2.5 RS and XM in the Ridgeline (it came with it) I can't really tell if one is better than the other. I like Sirius for BBC Radio Hits 1 and US Naval Academy Football broadcasts, we like XM because we can drive cross-country and listen to the Mariner's games. Since I had both well prior to the merger, all I can say is hold out for some chips, but regardless of which one you chose, definitely have satellite radio instead of broadcast radio. I liken it as the difference between black & white and color TV (or for you younger types, the difference between regular broadcast TV and HDTV). I haven't listened to broadcast over-the-air radio since I made the first switch.
Not sure how low the prices will go but the XM/Sirius lineup and different packages are suppose to roll out the first week of October. Those with XM can add things such as Howard Stern for a small fee. I am also hearing that there will be small packages with smaller prices for those that only want a few specific channels. By the end of the year if you have XM or Sirius you will be able to somewhat build your channel lineup. I have XM and usually pay for a 2-3 yr subscription and have not gotten any new information on what will be available in October. If i get anything in the mail over the next few weeks i will post any new price structures or new channel lineups.
When I called to cancel one time, they gave me 90 days for free. After that I called to cancel and was again offered free service for 30 days; I told them I had already been through the whole thing and the lady said ' thanks, now I don't have to go through all the offers with you."
It sounds like I need to keep holding out then, at least into October to see what the new packages look like and if it will be less to order ala carte.
I'd suggest that analogy would be more appropriate between broadcast and HD radio. Sat. radio is great for the selection and reception, but the sound quality is hardly anything to rave about.
