I think this issue is due to the Kenwood unit not turning off the amp cleanly and a capacitor is discharging.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi I've installed a Kenwood DDX 512 using the Japanese bezel and wiring harness. Anyway the install went great with all the instructions on the forum but I do have one small issue. When I power off the car I will get a couple of "squelch" noises (with a 20 sec gap) from the from the large speakers at the front. I think this issue is due to the Kenwood unit not turning off the amp cleanly and a capacitor is discharging. The noise is just irritating and is not a sound that would damage the speaker (eg it does not have a hard transition, nor does it have a single frequency component). Has this been a problem for anyone else ? Thanks James

POST 2Original post

I get this on my home stereo, if I turn off the signal (pre-amp/CD player) before I turn off the amp. Like you suggested, it's the amp's capacitors discharging. The only way I've found to prevent it is to turn the amp off and then wait until the music fades out before I turn off the pre-amp and CD player (the capacitors drain while playing the music, instead while making that "squelch" noise). Since everything is tied together in the car, I'm not sure what you can do about it. Except maybe don't shut off the car until you're ready to get out and then get out very quickly -- it won't prevent the noise, but at least you won't hear it.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
