Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I have an 01 Boxster S , with a rebuilt engine from Porsche (previous owner blew the IMS on original motor and had it replaced by Porsche ) that I've beefed up with deep sump, baffle and DOF so it's stout for track duty. I just inherited a base 987.1 with a blown 2.7. I want to put my 3.2 into the Cayman . Is this doable?? I'm doing some research, but if anyone has had experience with this please chime in. If it's not possible, I suppose I would buy another 2.7 and sell my Boxster .

POST 2Original post

Based on my research it may be doable. Your issue is that the 2.7L has a VarioCam engine (not variocam plus) and uses a different ECU than the '01 3.2L engine. A direct replacement is a 3.2 from any year '03 - '06. My thread has some details on what works. I think you could get by with a reflash of the ECU . Best place for that is Softronics. Here's the link: https://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-and-boxster-chat/224457-engine-rebuild-what-do.html This article at Pelican Parts tech article is also a great reference on what is needed to be done. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techar...charticles/Boxster_Tech/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap/11-ENGINE-911_Engine_Swap.htm The article is written in reference to putting a 3.4L Carrera engine in a '00 Boxster so not all of it is relevent to our cars. As long as you are not starting with a 5-chain engine there is hope.
