Suggestion

When I picked up my new C4S with factory PSE, the dealer tech told me if I wanted to have the PSE in full time sport mode to just disconnect the black vacuum line from the switch/valve in the engine compartment rather than mess with the electornics.

I have heard on other forums that if you disconnect the hoses you can cause problems with the valves that lead to rattles in the bypass valve??

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Evening gents - I want to bypass the PSE and have it on 'loud' mode at all times .......can this be done ?? ....any advise is much appreciated - thank you - Barry

POST 2Original post

You need to remove an electrical plug under the bonnet (boot). This is a 987 Boxster but it will be similar.

POST 3Original post

The good news- yes it can as I had it done to mine when it was fitted! The bad news- dunno how. One poster said remove the fuse when the exhaust is in loud mode. Others say snip a diode off somewhere. Have a search as I'm sure its been covered before, with pics. Either way, hopefully someone more knowlegable than me will be along shortly.

POST 4Original post

Hi Barry Its very easy, no snipping, no plugs - its super simple! takes 20 seconds, below is the advice I got, it took literally secondsL Hi Ben, make sure the switch is off (no light showing and the exhaust is open). With the key NOT in the ignition, remove relay number 996.618.980.03 from the small fuse box in the right hand footwell on the drivers side. It's tucked up in the right hand corner (you'll need to get on your back!) the relay (from memory) is the top left hand one.... Yank it out. Now, with it removed, when you are driving along, it won't close off between the 30mph and 48 mph range... and stays permanently open...! eh voila! Enjoy the noise!!! :thumb:

POST 5Original post

When I picked up my new C4S with factory PSE, the dealer tech told me if I wanted to have the PSE in full time sport mode to just disconnect the black vacuum line from the switch/valve in the engine compartment rather than mess with the electornics. Most of the suggestions I've seen talked about cutting the diode or pulling the speed sensor wire. Disconnecting the vacuum line seems to work fine. Wonder why no one has done this. Took all of 1 minute. Barry, the thread above was from the rennlist, some other discussion points listed if you search on the topic.

POST 6Original post

All I know is it works on my 4S, it saves messing in the engine bay and is easy, the choice is yours. good luck

POST 7Original post

996 remove the appropriate relay snip off diode no 1, 997 remove the wire in the engine bay

POST 8Original post

......you also lose some MPG by keeping it on I prefer to have the switch as I can toggle the sports suspension on/off but still keep the exhaust/map in sports mode(997).

POST 9Original post

Hi Por911T, Had the same issue and had some great advice from Richard T the relay snip is really easy, takes all of about 10 mins and the exhaust remains switchable. I have heard on other forums that if you disconnect the hoses you can cause problems with the valves that lead to rattles in the bypass valve?? :dont know: I have a 996 C4S and makes the worls of dif with no cut out  Good luck and pm Richard H if you want advice, he is the font of all knowledge.

POST 10Original post

Snipping the diode (on a 996) retains the ability to switch it off/on. It just stops the annoying quiet patch between 25-40mph. http://www.renntech.org/forums/inde...11386__hl__PSE mod__fromsearch__1&#entry11386

POST 11Original post

I have a PSE and its on loud mode and i press the button to make it quiet, i thought this was how they all were. I would love to get rid of the quiet patch between 30-45mph because it cuts in at the best bit which is really annoying !! i cant open the link for the rennlist post, is there a guide on here to show how to do it ???

POST 12Original post

If you register on Renntech and login then the link I posted will then work. Worth registering anyway as a lot of info is also on that site + in that particular thread there are some great pictures of the relay and diode which I used to convert mine. Register at http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/index

POST 13Original post

Thanks Dave, I was forwarded the info from another kind member but i think ill register on renntech as well. Im gonna do the relay at the weekend, i wanna hear my PSE through second gear, i hate it when it goes quiet !!

POST 14Original post

I was surprised how easy it was to make such a dramatic difference. Which makes it seem strange that there are still 996s out there with switchable PSEs in 'stock' mode. However to counter my own argument a friend has just picked up a 2002 Targa with switchable PSE and its still set to quiet. Will be fixing that shortly. [addmode] Probably the best 996 mod in the world ? [/addmode]

POST 15Original post

IMHO relay is the best option. Most C4S drivers agree PSE is the best part of the car at legal speeds so why restrict the ability to turn heads. Personally best bit is the brakes but you need to be brave to realise this. Anyway put some polish on that scratch, get the relay fixed and come to Knockhill sunday and we can do a stereo unrestricted PSE run.
