It was the best of the four, but it had council spec, the warranty is not renewable at the end of a year, and it was still way overpriced IMHO.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just joined the forum and I'm looking to buy a 996. I have put an ad in the wanted section but as I think about it, I am wondering if I am being unrealistic looking for a good 3.6 for around £18k? I have read that the values of 996's are dropping a bit, is this true in the board's opinion? Any comments?

POST 2Original post

Welcome to the forum. I think you'll manage to get an intergalatic mileage 3.6 at that price, ie well over 100k miles. If you do, check the service history as usual. Otherwise go for a lower mileage 3.4 instead - loads about. ~ Maxie

POST 3Original post

That's a shame, I clicked the link thinking it was a seller at £18k ... :nooo:

POST 4Original post

Don't think you will get a 996 facelift 3.6 for 18 unless it is private very high mileage or Cat D. Most 3.6 >year 2002 more than £21k. For 18 I would expect you could get a year 2000 3.4 model in very good condition

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. The hunt continues, hope to see one at the weekend if it's still available.

POST 6Original post

Just in the process of completing a deal on a late 2002 facelift car 54k miles full p history uk car never damaged for 19.5 and I dont think I got a great deal so I would say go up 1k and you will be close!!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just missed an '02 3.6 C4 33k miles that was £18.9K before haggling. Grrrr, bloody thing had been for sale for a while too, just my bad timing ;~(

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

In answer to my own question. No you cannot get a good facelift 3.6 for 18k or so. I went to see four 911's at the weekend and they were all overpriced tat, one in dealers in Prestwick even had a rear tyre (a quality chinese Ventus item!) on the wrong way round!. One in Dundee had a page cut out of the service history! and a replaced engine that was supplied for £4k by Dragon Performance whoever they may be. Another one of the four includes a 2000 model in the local OPC up for an eye watering £23,850! Which was offered to me as a "skinny deal" at £21000, not bad, almost 3k off the original asking price. It was the best of the four, but it had council spec, the warranty is not renewable at the end of a year, and it was still way overpriced IMHO. So with a heavy heart I have decided a 911 is not for me for now. Regards Billy.

POST 10Original post

Good cars are out there for £18k but probably not as a facelift. I expect mine is worth about £18k. It's a 2001 pre-facelift with 93,000 miles and loaded with options (18" wheels, sat nav, heated seats, computer, xenons, upgraded sound system etc), full history, still under OPC warranty even. Just had MOT and disks/pads all round and just about to get taxed too. Also just serviced (major) with some warranty work completed (rads, RMS and a couple of minor bits that the MOT and service threw up). It's not even an "odd" colour (silver and black leather) I'm not currently selling but would pitch it at the above and may have to do so soon due to job change.
