Suggestion
I would fight for a warranty extension or something on the parts they replaced if they wouldn't replace the motor.

But, well, I'll test-drive a TT in two weeks - that's like swapping the engine, and some other parts...
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi!
I own a MY02 996 Carrera 2 Cab. The rear main seal was replaced under warranty after 12 month and about 25.000 km. The dealer told me about problems at the factory with fitting the main seal etc. and that he solved the problem. Now, one year and 25.000 km later, the main seal is leaking again. Lucky as I am I still have two weeks of factory warranty! But I wonder if that problem will occur next year at 75.000 km again?!? Any thoughts?
Hi boca996!
Well, I took it to the dealer for a pre-out-of-warranty-inspection... You also can check this seal for yourself. If there's oil between the gearbox and the enginge, more than just a little bit of oil, and as soon as it starts to drip and spoil your uncles garage, with those white tiles on the floor, well, then you have a main seal problem.
Sounds like a good time to make a push for a new engine. Site your concerns and see what they say... worst they will do is say no.
From what I understand, Porsche has revised the rear main seal... perhaps you got an old one in the first replacement.
Good luck.
The replacement itself might have been faulty. I would fight for a warranty extension or something on the parts they replaced if they wouldn't replace the motor. It just seems ludicrous that the warranty period wouldn't be extended for that particular item on your car.
Hi!
@P-Zen: Why? Those tiles are great to spot any oil leak you have...
Regarding a new engine: I don't think a dealer in Germany would swap the engine for this failure. No way. But, well, I'll test-drive a TT in two weeks - that's like swapping the engine, and some other parts...
Anyway, if the dealer cannot give me a good offer, I'll stick to the cab and ask for an extended warranty ...
