Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Although, the radio didn't just go bonkers when I started the car, it went nuts when I used the indicators or the wipers too.

Essentially, it is the gizmo that prevents the electrical currents, used to start and run the car, from interefering with the radio signal.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have an issue with the radio in my car (C4S) whereby with the keys in the ignition, the radio works fine but as soon as I switch the engine on, all I get is static!? There is no issues with playing CD's, it's just the radio. The car has, I think, PCM2? ("53" car with sat nav) plus Bose and was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue or can offer insight into my wierd problem? :dont know: Thanks in advance, guys and girls.

POST 2Original post

Hello there You chose well with the C4S - I came out of a fully spec'd 08 Audi A5 for my 8 year old C4S and have never once thought "I miss the Audi!!" Anyway, about your radio - I'm guessing that the little unit, I think its called a suppressor, is on its way out. Essentially, it is the gizmo that prevents the electrical currents, used to start and run the car, from interefering with the radio signal. I'm no expert, but in my teens I had a MK3 Cortina and then a Capri and both suffered from the same problem. Although, the radio didn't just go bonkers when I started the car, it went nuts when I used the indicators or the wipers too. Unless you are upto dismantling the dash to investigate, I suggest you run up to your local auto electrician - shouldn't be a big job for them.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for that, really appreciate the advice. 2003 c4s, good taste yourself... ;-)

POST 4Original post

I had something similar a few weeks ago. 04 C4S. Everything fine. Parked up for 30 minutes. When I got back in the radio and CD replay vanished. Flicked on the Sat Nav and it talked over the 'speakers fine. A few hours later I nipped outside to get the fuse diagram and see if anything had gone - all OK again. Not happened since.
