Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I very much like the look of the Techart skirts for the 987, (GT3 style I think...?) With their tapering effect from front to back. Do they are rather pricey. Very similar looking skirts here: https://xclusivecustomz.com/product/porsche-cayman-side-skirts/ However as I have no experience of fitting body kit parts my worry is over quality and fitment. Presumably you get what you pay for in this department? Any thoughts/experiences/advice would be much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

No experience with their products, but it is true that you get what you pay for. Having mass produced body parts for many cars, the products that required extensive design and prototypes were the best fit and obviously sold for the highest price. Companies that simply make a quick mold and only test fit on one car, usually don't have the most perfect fitment. Quality also depends on the material being used. I'd avoid fiberglass for anything that sits low on the car. I've found the right plastics to be less rigid, but much more forgiving than fiberglass upon inevitable impacts. Carbon fiber is next level.

POST 3Original post

Interesting. Thanks. So fibreglass, not good at flexing (Presumably more flex in a Boxster than a Cayman ...?) I guess I assumed fiberglass to be a reasonable construction material since cars like (my old) Lotus Elise had all panels made from it. But perhaps the very rigid monocoque construction is key there? So basically fibreglass skirts prone to eventual cracking on a Boxster then?

POST 4Original post

I have only one thought to share and unfortunately it is "Butt Ugly". Beautiful car with great lines made ugly by what looks like left over rice rocket side skirts and a rear wing big enough to look absolutely stupid. If this is the look your going for you might want to just bit the bullet and get that Hot Honda Civic you are emulating. lol Sorry but just wanted to give my honest opinion. You pays your money you makes your choice!

POST 6Original post

Well I agree that the spoiler's and suchlike are generally gross looking. However the car I have here is the 987 S Sport, with integrated slightly deeper bumper, rear diffuser etc. 19 wheels, coloured silver. And to my eye it looks like a nicely tapered skirt angled from front to rear (as in GT3) painted to appear nicely integrated and 'factory' as it were... could look quite good. Like on: https://www.design911.co.uk/mobile/#part;id=131585 Matter of opinion of course. Opinions on this are welcome, all.

POST 7Original post

Parts like these aren't going to be stressed from body flex, nor will any amount of body flex be significant enough to have an impact on a side skirt (if it does, you have a seriously weak frame). What I was saying is that parts mounted low on your car are inevitably going to be hit by something. I don't care if you lifted the car and avoid everything in the road, the bottom edges of your car get hit with all sorts of things and the right hit on a fiberglass piece can quickly break it. Fiberglass is really great on body panels, but plastics are much more forgiving for ground effects.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
