Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

In the past month I picked up a new to me 2006 Boxster . The car is great, but at 6'4" I just fit comfortably. I could definitely use a little more clearance between my knees and the bottom of the steering wheel. I've read over 35 posts here and at other forums trying to find if there is a good option for a smaller steering wheel. My car came with standard triangle airbag wheel. I've read that the sport steering wheel is supposed to have a smaller diameter according to Porsche literature. However, I've found there are differing opinions about this fact. Some threads say, "Yes the sports steering wheel is definitely smaller." Some threads say, "No way, the steering wheels are all the same outer diameter." My question is, does anyone have an actual measurement of overall diameters of both wheels. Since I would be doing the swap aftermarket, I want to make sure the sports wheel is actually smaller. I even sent an email to suncoast who thinks they're all the same size. If someone who has a sport wheel could take an actual measurement of the wheel it would be greatly appreciated. Are there any options that aren't OEM that are actually smaller? I know there are options for having a steering wheel re-wrapped, but what options are there that are actually smaller. I normally would just search, but there is no clear answer from what I've seen.

POST 2Original post

I don't know the answer to your question... But I can measure my sport wheel later. If you're interested in a cocoa leather sport wheel, I might be willing to part with mine. I'm swapping out for my quick release Momo wheel. I'm also in GA, so we could probably meet up so you don't have to deal with the expensive complications of shipping an airbag.

POST 3Original post

If you could measure the sport wheel that would be great.

POST 4Original post

I installed a Personal Grinta 330 mm on a Bell Works hub within the first year of ownership. GREAT setup. You could use those search terms and/or maybe find some threads in my history.

POST 5Original post

I went with a Raid Cavallo in my 987.2 . Compared to the Raid, the stock wheel felt like a ships tiller.

POST 6Original post

Stock sport wheel is ~14.5" or 370mm in diameter.

POST 7Original post

Thanks for the updates. I measured my wheel at 14.75 inches, so only a minor difference. I would love to pick up one of the Raid wheels. I think 320mm or 340mm would really help the fit. From what I've read they're out of production now. Time to set up my eBay alerts.

POST 8Original post

Does anyone know the most reputable place to track down a raid wheel? Carnewal doesn't have them on their site any longer.

POST 9Original post

So I tracked down a Raid Wheel from what I thought was a reputable dealer. Let's just say that it did not go well and leave it at that. I'm now back in the market for a smaller wheel. Does anyone have experience with the Momo Mod 7 wheel? Or anything similar for that matter. I'm on the fence right now on what I should do. I test drove a bunch of 981s and 997s over the Thanksgiving holiday in an attempt to see how I fit in those. Ironically the 981s fit the best. However, this would be the nuclear option. I really like the spec and feel of my 987, but the size and inability to really comfortably drive the car are making me second guess what I should do. Take a chance that one of the Momo wheels with make things better, or drop another $15k to really fix the problem.

POST 10Original post

Make sure you can return the Momo and give it a try. Nothing to lose except some time if it doesn't work out. The $15K option seems over the top for what should be a solvable problem. Keep us posted.
