Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all I have a 996 TT cab - I accept that there will always be some squeaks and rattles from the roof, but it has reached irritating levels - most of it seems to come from behind the seats, plus the usual squeaks and clunks where the roof joins with the windscreen. I have tried some silicone spray onto the seals, but it hasn't done much. Can anyone suggest some home maintenance to improve it? Cheers Jon

POST 2Original post

hi seeing as no one else has any ideas i will try to have a go! is the rattle from behind the front seats or the back seats? - my cab had a really annoying rattle that i eventually found when i half closed the roof and put my hand inbetween the outer layer (outside roof material) and the inside roof material. there is a plastic 'C' channel that runs the WIDTH of the car and holds the roof matrial to a metal bar (that also runs the width of the car) this 'C' channel 'snaps' around the metal bar. This 'C' channel had slightly snapped and was vibrating against the metal during driving, as i kept falling out of place. this was solved by using tiger seal and bonding the channel back on - this solved the problem. may not be your issue but it's worth a look. while the roof is half way open you can maybe oil some hinges that you would not normally see. another good idea is to take out the rear speakers (2 screws) whereby you can oil some other hinges. my hood stil does rattle a bit though. dan

POST 3Original post

I too have a very annoying roof creak problem. Booked in at Paragon to fix but will certainly try what you suggest before hand

POST 4Original post

I have some PDF files that the OPC use to sort rattles on CAB and hardtop roofs. If you want them, PM your e-mail and i'll send them.

POST 6Original post

Many thanks for these. Think I may have sorted or at least made it 80% better. I used this PDF - Added some small felt pads to the rubber spacer referenced in this doc & that seems to have helped - Allot Going for a proper run on Sunday (pre Lemans meet) so will see for sure. If I haven't fixed it at least I have located the problem. Cheers

POST 7Original post

I had the same issue.....very squeaky, especially above the driver's head. I bought some Wurth http://www.wurth.co.uk/catalogue/pdfs/UK-CD_07_0005.pdf and it's brilliant. What you need to do is unzip some bits of the hood and really find the underlying mechanicals...but once you spray it once or twice it really sticks and the noise is gone.
