Suggestion

I've the Agency S/S lever and its very tight as in just a micron of play left/right which i like, be aware of tightening the large bolt the front to back one (not the side to side smaller one) as come summer and temps increase these alloys expand a little and can cause tightness.

Anyway i got the B&M instructions and took out the center console and saw that the unit was wrongly assembled with the tightening nut on the wrong end!!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hi guys i have a short shifter which was fitted when i bought the car, after having a look under the gaiter, i am sure its a B&M unit. My gear stick has had quite alot of play in it and i only noticed it when i drove someone elses 996 without a short shift kit, whose gear stick had almost no play in it and could only move from side to side and through the gears in a tight gate mechanical way (much better feel than mine) if that makes sense. Anyway i got the B&M instructions and took out the center console and saw that the unit was wrongly assembled with the tightening nut on the wrong end!! i fixed this and tightened as much as i could without the gearstick not being able to spring back to center itself...anyway i improved it amazingly, however...there is still a slight wobble, but the short shift mechanism is much better. I have taken off the grub screw and made sure the gear knob is tightly on. My question is, is it normal to have a couple of mm of play in the gear stick (before even putting pressure on it to put it into gear). Any feedback would be great as usual guys thank you peter

POST 3Original post

I have the b&m rifle bolt action into the gears and has about a centimetre of left to right movement once in gear yours sounds fine to me now you've installed it correctly
